G'day Terry
What year model 900SS did you have.
How does it compare to what you are ridding now
It's a good arvo for a ride in Sydney today high 20's but you'd still be riding in Sydney
Scott

G'Day Scott, it was an early desmo SS, 1978 or '79, from memory. I bought it from Phil Beaumonts in Brisbane when I lived there for a couple of years, it was an absolute POS mechanically, but it was beautiful. It was the first bike I owned after a succession of Honda 750's, a Goldwing and a Kawasaki Z1 that actually gave me that "running on rails" feeling, only problem was it'd "stand up" in corners under braking, which was somewhat disconcerting in some of the tighter corners up on Mt Nebo and Mt Glorious!

I think my current gold K2 with all of Ken Piper's mods probably handles just as well as that Duke, but a stock CB750 wouldn't get within a bull's roar of a 900SS "back in the day".

I still Kick myself though, because for the same money I paid for the 900SS, I could have bought a mint Laverda 3CL (not a Jota, but gorgeous, just the same) or a couple of Bimota's, including a HB1. Beaumonts had a lot of cool bike's then, I wish I had a time machine and a suitcase full of cash mate, I'd have one hell of a collection now, ha ha! Good thing now is that the later Duke's are still very affordable, and I'd really like one of the DOHC 1000 Monsters from a few years ago, I like the riding position, and the exhaust note is just awesome! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Hi Terry, I bought my first 750/4 off Phil Beaumont in 1979, just off Abottsford road, just near Breakfast Creek....

I met a guy a couple months back who rode in all sorts of weather and probably had 400,000 bike miles to his credit. He's contracted a slowly debilitating disease that doesn't allow him to ride much now. But he told me about a beer run he and a couple buddies did every New Year's day no matter what the weather. Thinking of picking up that torch (which you'd need to get warm here in Ohio most New Year's days).

Yeah, a nice frosty one or two after a refreshing subfreezing cross county jaunt. By the way, I can't find the tire chains for my bike. Anybody know where to pick some up? Prefer NOS equipment. ;D

Not sure about Ohio, but in Alaska you have to take the studded tires off by about Mid-April, I beleive it is.

Unless of course you are a legislator, with  legislative license plates, who explained to me "I don't have to."

I went for a ride on Wednesday, yeah, it was a little cool, but even so, the couple of frosty beers I drank at the pub on the way back went down very well. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Er, um, well, actually it was about 75 mate? Now that might sound warm for you guys up to your nuts in snow, but it's pretty cold for this time of year in Oz.......  ;D

Terry, you don't know what you're missing. Do you have the term "bracing" down there in Oz? We've had snow on the ground for a week-plus here, but today the temperature climbed to about 34 F. so Vrrrroom Vrrrooom. Ok, was only about a 15 mile run, but felt really good. Bike started right up, only needed choke for a minute or so. Roads were dry and ice free. What could be better in Ohio than a Christmas Eve ride. Lovin' it.

And Merry Christmas to you all!!

Got to go, my son is here and he brought a 50-year-old Lionel train we're going to set up and run around the floor in the living room. It's been in the family since new. Where does this "thing" about old stuff stop??

Well it's gonna be 100(+) degres tomorrow, so while I'm waiting for some undercoat to dry today I might take "Goldie" out for a ride, my starter clutch has likely gummed up, so I'm gonna take lloyd's (Two Tired) advice and take it for a run to get it hot, and hopefully any sludge in my starter clutch will get flushed out with hot oil.

Hey Poppy, have you got any pics of you playing with that train set? I'd love to see them, I've got an old slot car set here that my dad bought for me when I was a kid 40 years ago, it's been sitting under my son's bed for the last 15 years, I must pull it out and have a play! Cheers, Terry. ;D
