CB750 cafe racer?
« on: March 17, 2006, 08:58:34 AM »
I want to take my old 81 CB750C and make it into a cafe racer.

First off, does anyone have any links or pics or reccomendations on how to do this?  low bars, shortened rear fender, cafe seat...?

Second, a lot of the stuff I find online is listed for the CB750F...Will the same year F model parts fit my C???

your 81 woud be a DOHC and not a SOHC, so, most likely, any parts we mention here might not be exact for your appplication (espcially when talking about engines).

As for the basics, just check out the gallery for pics and ideas. It sounds like you have a notion twords where you want to go anyway. Check out the pics in th gallary and see what you like.

If its newer than a 78', it wont have much in common with this site as far as parts go. You should go with a forum that deals with DOHC scooters. If you really want to deal with SOHC 4,you should get a 78 or older scoot! Then you will get alot of help here.Ride on dude!!!

Venarius, on this site, it would have been better to have come in on "Other Bikes" forum and then maybe someone would have given you info on where to find what you are looking for. I know there's  a site for the 750,900 &(i think) 1000 DOHCs. There are some examples of all kinds of cafe racers on
acecafe-london.com ( I THINK that's how the name is) I'll double check that. I have an 80' CB750K myself. I know it's not a SOHC but, I like it. I kind of balance it out with a CB77 Super Hawk, 1 CB500K and 2 CB550Ks I'll let you know about that site name spelling for sure. Later on, Bill :) ;)

Venarius, If you want to check out some cafe racers of all kinds go to:         ace-cafe-london.com
click on the one that says: Ace Cafe London - Distribution Page, then click on "go to the table of contents, then click on Bikes, then click on "Rev It Up", then click on Picture Library and you have fifty
three pages of cafe racers. BSAs, Triumphs,  BMWs, Hondas, and what have you. Maybe something there will give you some ideas and there are sites on line with parts but, the other guys are more familiar with that part. I hope that helps get you started. Later on, Bill :) ;)

What kind of rear body is that? Would it be a Tracey piece?

cincycaddy, in my humble opinion, you did good. That is one fine looking machine!! The body piece, the way and the way the gas tank is done, really has a good look. Someone did a really nice job and you landed it. Way to go.  Enjoy.  Later on, Bill :) ;)

check out cb900c.com , more relevent to your kind of bike.

None of the F stuff will fit except the motor. Chassis is way different.

If you really wanted to go crazy you could swap a whole f swingarm and rear disc setup on to your bike but you would have to modify your contorls to work a rear master (or just grab a GW linked brake master and rig it to your hand control for linked brakes). I belive the cb750C was chain unlike the cb900c which was shaft drive and had 10 speeds.

My honest opinion is to sell your C model honda and go buy a SOHC K or F bike (or a DOHC F). The C designates a custom which had a dropped seat and chopper tank and a frame to match. While they are great motorcycles in terms of rideability, they will not be easily modified into anything that isn't a chopper. YOu should be able to get about $1500 if yours is in nice shape which you can turn around an put into a really nice K or F bike.

good luck.

I downloaded the 74' CL450, that's in my avatar, from ebay I think. I've got one just like it that I've got to put the engine back together. I know it's a non traditional DOHC but, most anyone who's had and/or ridden one, likes them pretty much. I don't have the same feeling for it that I do for the SOHC4s
but, feelings all the same. That's why I'm so interested in your CL350 project for your wife. To me, there is some similarity between the 350 and the 450 (even though the 350's a SOHC and the 450's a DOHC) I am really enjoying your project, it gives me the inspiration to get on with my own ( when "Honey Do Projects" allow. I envy you, my wife doesn't even want to ride on the  back much less on one by herself. You go seaweb! :) ;)      Later on, Bill
