What's up with this cb750?
« on: December 18, 2010, 07:53:11 AM »
I found this picture of what is probably the coolest looking cb I have seen, but I'm not sure what model it is..
It looks like a 750 to me, but why is the engine sitting so low in the frame?

That tank does not look all the way on.

If that is the kewlest CB you have seen, you have not been around the BOTM/BOTY threads much.  :)

I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

It's def a 750.  As to the engine looking low I think the frame tube that usually runs over the valve cover might be cut out.  Someone probably did a head job on it with the engine in the frame, and just never replaced or fixed the tubes they cut out.

Well, there's obviously not a whole lot of work done to the bike, but I just think it looks proper old school and cool. I'm not really into CB's gone cafe.
I hadn't really noticed, but the tank is definately sitting at an angle. That probably makes the engine look lower, but I don't think that's the only reason.

The tube below the horn? Looks like it's still there to me.

The rear wheel rim is smaller than stock, probably a 16", and the shocks are probably shorter than stock. This lowers the engine to the ground. The tank is raised too. I can't tell from the pic but the forks may be raised in the triple clamps too. Not my style, but it does look pretty nicely done to me. The upper frame has been modified, I hope it's been braced to replace the strength of the structure that was over the engine. I've ridden a bike with this removed and it was flexy to the point of being unsafe above 30mph.

A 16 inch with 90 height tire wont drop the bike more than  a 1/2 inch.
Frame cut out, have ridden one I owned at at least 100mph, my buddy rode his to Sturgis at speeds of at least 125mph, then raced it(beating a few trailered in Kawis), then rode it home..

The tank is raised on the bike , some use a 450 2win tank for a better look as well.

Depends on your motive I guess. As someone who would rather resto than cafe or bob this isn't even a 'CB" anymore. CF

Sorry, but that is kind of an ignorant statement. All those awesome resto-modded muscle cars aren't camaros or mustangs anymore because some changed them, too? God forbid someone take something they love and make it their own.

You got me there, but it still seems ignorant to call something that is 90% CB NOT a CB because it isn't stock.... IMO  :P
