ignition switch switching
« on: December 18, 2010, 06:56:35 PM »
so, i am going to modify my 76 750f harness so i can use an ignition switch from a 72 750k. the 76f has a 5 wired switch (red, black, brown/white stripe, 2 browns) and the 72k has a 4 wired switch(red, black, brown/white stripe, 1 brown).

i have also opted to use my 72k handle bar controls. i like the idea of being able to turn my head light on and off.

my question is, and i apoligized if it has been covered, what do i do with the extra brown wire? i have looked at wiring diagrams for the ignition switches, but i am having a hard time figuring it out. do i splice the browns together or figure out which one goes to the headlight(i am figuring one does) and leave it disconnected?

The two brown wires on your harness may actually be just one. The two brown wire terminals are PA and TL1, usually these are joined either in the switch connector or in the harness. If you have separate wires TL1 goes to the tail light, PA goes to the "parking light" installed in some markets' headlights. The switch connects the tail light to the TAIL fuse with the switch "ON" and to the MAIN fuse with the switch in "P" (since the TAIL fuse is not powered except in "ON").
