I am rebuilding my 1970ko carbs and read online that there are springs that push down what is called the valve set on the parts list at honda direct. However, I read this information elsewhere and the honda direct schematics don't show any springs. The part to which I refer is the pointy chunk of metal that gets pushed up and down by the floats in carburetor. I would assume gravity lets the valve set drop down as gas is used and the floats push them back up as the bowl fills.

Help?

I have seen springs in one year but don't recall the one. I looked yours up and don't see one. Maybe someone else knows? I have a K8 that has PD carbs. However it seems like it should work fine without one.

The float valve (the pointy thing that moves up and down) has an internal, captive, spring loaded pin on the bottom side.  This pin is what actually contacts the tang on the float.  When the float moves up and down to cloase and open the valve, the action is "softened" by the spring-loaded pin.  Sometimes the pins get stuck in the "fully compressed" position and are not obvious.  When you set the float height, make sure the float tang is just touching the pin, and not depressing the pin against the (hidden) spring.

Cool with that explanation?

Kevin,

I am totally cool with that explanation. It was letter-perfect. Thanks.

Maybe the 750 KO is different than the 550s I've built, but there doesn't seem to be that little piece of wire that hooks on the tongue of the floats. I don't really see any sort of spring.
