I'm up in the air on it right now.  I'm thinking semi gloss black.  But polishing a few things, like the rocker caps, clutch cover, etc could be kinda cool.  But maybe silver jugs and black everything else.  But, but but.  I'm having the hardest time deciding, since the chassis is still in pieces.  Heck, I've thought about bringing the red from the tank and side covers back in on the engine. Just a small accent here or there, like the points and stator covers, possibly.  I'm open to ideas!

Last night I got the cam, rocker cover, and a few other things reinstalled. I also got the rest of the engine stripped, so I can get it all painted soon.

I also got a little impatient and had to see what a few parts would look like polished.  Here's a little example of the quick work I did.

I'll get some pics of the motor when I get a little more done on her.

uth ohhhh.. you caught the polishing bug  ;)

i like all the ideas you have for the motor.. if it wasnt together already i would be maybe even suggested doing the head in the red you have then polishing the outter edge of the fins, polished cases and silver everything else maybe some black hardware here and there ? i dunno just thinking out loud ahhahhaha

Yeah, I figured I polish those and the rocker caps at the very least.

I'm trying on leathers and new boots tomorrow, hoping I can find some for a track day coming up.  The CBR needs an oil change before that, and I have to track prep what is normally a street bike, so I might have some slow progress on this.  But don't be surprised if you see the motor done this weekend.

Well, I finally got some measurable progress done today.  Obviously, the engine is painted.  Today the engine went into the frame....  Swing arm went on too.

And by the end of the day, she was looking like this.

Obviously, the tank and side cover are only on there to see how she looks.  I should be getting more done this week. :)

Looks awesome, dude.  Keep it up.

Also, I have a complete 550 without a title that you could have for pennies as a parts bike if you need anything.  I forgot to mention it earlier when it was potentially more useful.

Hey bakeoff, just read through this whole thing and I must say, very nice work indeed.

I hope that mine turns out even half this nice!

Keep up the good work.

Got the tail light bracket made last night.  What a pain that was!  lol  but it turned out well.  So, its a tail light for a 03-06 CBR 600rr with integrated turn signals.

And lit up.  I seriously can't stop laughing when I look at this. My roommate is not retarded.  I swear.  lol

I also threw on the intake runners and goofed around with the new stator cover I got.  Its different than the old one and required chopping some screws to length to get the field coil mounted in it.  No biggie.

just ordered these to replace the ones I made, since I wasn't quite happy with them.

And the speedo to replace the one I got, since I wanted the indicator lights.

AND....I had to get something to cover front turn signals.  These are on the way, so we'll see how they work out.

I ordered the same style gauges from dime city, except I opted for the gauge mount they have, with the LEDs in it.  Keep an eye on how you mount these gauges, because they are so much smaller, with the cable mount in the middle, putting it very tight to the headlight, if you still have stock light.

I snapped my speedo cable on the first good ride.  Got a new one, nut it's still stressed a bit, but I'm hoping the newer motion pro I got will handle the bend required.

Your new parts are looking good, making me want to see this thing put together :)

The bar ends look like they might be long enough to put the bar end mirrors on them.  I'm going to try it at least!

I'm not too worried about the speedo cable.  The headlight brackets I have push the bucket forward a little, and I'm mounting the gauges a little lower, so the top edge will be about level with the top triple clamp.  I did a mock up with it at one point, having the same worry, and it seemed like it would be okay.

I had black faces before you could get the white faced speedo.  Jay, the white faces will tie in with your paint really well.  Good call! The black looks great with my paint, so I'm excited to get those mounted up.

Right now I have parts all over the place and half of them need to be painted.  Its going to be a long slow process.  lol

Does anyone know of a source for grips that are the same color as these red ones, minus the metallic flake?

Last night I decided to step my game up.  I kept looking at the wheels, thinking they looked homely.  This was the result:

I also stripped the old crusty paint off all of the front brake hardware and got a few things painted.  I'll get pics of those all done by the end of the week.

I just ran out to the garage to grab something and snapped a couple pics of the rotors and I threw one on the front wheel to see how it looks.

My brain is melted from doing my first track day on a bike at BIR on my CBR today, but I thought I'd throw up an update from last week.

I finally got most of the front end put back together, at least enough to make it a roller.  I'm thinking I made the right choice to go black on the wheels.

I'll get to work on the rear this week.

Bake - this is really coming out great! Love the color of the tank, and yes, good decision on the black rims.

Where is BIR? Sounds awesome!!

Brainerd Internation Raceway.  http://www.brainerdraceway.com/

So, this is the reason I have had slow progress the last couple weeks: me on my 600rr.

There's a local photographer that goes to almost all of the track days for bikes, so we see some great shots.  Jay, I have a ton of Facebook that the girlfriend shot too.

I'm not doing another track day until Sept.  So, expect to see some progress.  In fact, you'll seen an update tonight or tomorrow.  I got a few things done Monday night and haven't had a chance to grab any pics yet.

Thanks for the feed back!  It definitely lights a fire under my ass to keep banging through things faster!

Got a bit done tonight.  The new clip ons had some tank clearance issues.  To get them to clear I had to modify the steering stops.  I just masked everything off, used the ol' welder to add on a little material, and touched up the paint.  Voila!  Clip ons clear!  I also got the headlight brackets thrown back on after painting them.  And I test fitted the gauges (not pictured).

After those pics, I got the stator back on, wired up the neutral switch and oil pressure switch, got the starter installed, threw the new chain on, and got the sprocket cover on.  And I threw on the front calipers, but things are binding strangely.  So, I have to work that out.  In any case, things are moving along quickly now!

What a pain in the ass kind of night!  lol

The binding in the front brakes proved to be more of an issue than I thought.  I got the left side (the original brake setup) worked out fine.  The other side was...ugh!  After figuring out that the webbing that supports the brake bracket stay was not machined from the factory, I finally got it all sorted out.  Two hours later, it is finally looking good.  I just have to find one bolt the right length and it's done. Bleh!

I also started messing with the wiring.  There were a bunch of "repairs" done by a previous owner.  Tape over wires completely missing the plastic housing, twist and taped joints, etc.  I think I'm finally looking good there.  Not much else done tonight.
