This is what I started the night staring at.

What a mess...

At least that is going away in favor of SV hand controls. I had a black and white wiring diagram and it was just a pain in the ass to read. After finding a color diagram online, things were looking up. With my roommate's help (so much easier to dig into this when you're not going back and forth between the diagram and the wiring itself!) got the right side all wired up along with about half of the left side. I'll probably finish that up tonight and then I need to contact Motion Pro about custom cables...

Oh, the wiring mess...

The hand switches are mounted just for the wiring process. But i got the grips in the mail today, so those went on along with the mirrors and bar ends. Wiring should be done soon and should function like stock.

I also played around with the throttle cables since Motion Pro is taking their dandy time getting back to me. I've also seen a lot of people saying the had two week turn around times....some longer. At this point, I just need to read up on soldering new ends on the cable and I should be set. I'm very happy with that!

I started working on the exhaust tonight. I started with a cb750 MAC exhaust I got with the bike. The previous owner thought it was for the 550....but he was wrong.

I cut the ends off the exhaust that came on the bike...

And by the end of it, I ended up with something like this.

Obviously, I did all the mock up on the parts bike. I'm grabbing header wrap tomorrow, so it should all be looking nice and be installed tomorrow or Friday.

That's the hope! I'm really pushing to get it done for Saturday. Regardless, I'll be there. I haven't gotten my CBR switched back to street duty yet, but you might see a red 600rr out there instead. And if all else fails, I'll drive.

Sadly, I'm not going to have her ready for Saturday... It would be a mad dash to get it streetable. I think early next week is much more realistic... But I'll be kickin' around that day for sure!

Got a bunch of stuff knocked off the "to do" list.

Rear shock bushings were replaced (thanks for making them, Jeff!) and the upper nuts and washers were put on, so the rear end of the bike is truly complete. The exhaust is DONE. Wrapped, painted, and installed. Pics to come. I also got the front calipers repainted, reinstalled, and the brake lines all plumbed. And I know i got a few other things done. Meanwhile, my roommate Harry was working on wiring... After finding a toasted ignition switch, I have a new one on the way. That may take care of all the wiring issues, but we'll know with some more trouble shooting. Huge thanks to him for hanging in there with this.

That's too bad the bike wasn't ready for Bearded Lady, but shows come and go and you have to live with the bike. No point in cutting corners just to meet a deadline.

Glad to hear the wiring is getting figured out. That will be a HUGELY satisfying check mark on the To-Do list.

Where do I start...?

I've been asked for pics of the exhaust on and wrapped, so I shot a couple... They just don't do it any justice.

After a lot of goofing around with wiring, Harry and I found that there were just issues all over the place with the original harness. So, off she came. The harness from the 76 went on, meeting back up with the fuse block from that bike. For some reason the positive feed to the headlight has a short in it, so a new wire will be run. That being recognized, we moved on. After having the horn working before, it decided to sound make weak Road Runner sounds once wired back up. Removed that, popped it apart, and suddenly it started working. Crisis averted. lol

With some advice from Bunnicula on sohc4.com, I realized I have a blinker relay kicking around from the CBR that never got installed. After soldering on some new connectors....and maybe wiring it correctly (not sure who switched two wires), the blinkers work great.

With the 76 missing the neutral safety circuit, we ran into some issues with the starter circuit. I'll track down a wiring diagram and get that figured out. As is, she's looking kinda shabby. lol

I had a good day! Harry to the rescue again! Now, while I can read wiring diagrams and have no problem creating something from scratch, I have little patience for fixing an existing wiring harness. I think I have the same take on redheads as I do fixing wiring. I'll give them a little attention, but not much more, knowing they'll probably give me more trouble than its worth. If I have to, I'll get in there and get my hands dirty, but if someone with more patience is willing to take on the task at hand, I'll probably congratulate him with beer and other amazing compensation. Needless to say, I owe him. As of today, all I need is diodes for the turn signal indicator and all wiring is complete. It turns over (haven't hooked up gas yet to try to test fire it) and all lights and indicators work.

I'm picking up fork oil and brake fluid after work, so I should be able to wrap up the front end Friday night (I have a standing weekly dinner get together with a bunch of friends thursday night at a restaurant that my friends own). Then I'll get to the throttle cables and round it out with the fuel plumbing and sync the carbs. Sooooo excited! It might be rideable this weekend!

I have to say, making throttle cables is an art. Once you figure it out, its perfection! So, throttle cables are DONE! I'm so relieved to have that out of the way. I also picked up some diodes for the turn signal indicator and Harry wired those in. Headlight bucket is back on and all wiring aside from the front brake switch is finished. Also threw on the speedo cable on and make a little bracket to keep it from flopping into the second rotor. And so, it was time to test fire her. Hooked the tank up and the carbs started pissing back into the airbox... Screw it. Tested it anyway. And within about 8 seconds of cranking, the battery was dead. So, I'll rip the carbs back off and figure out why they're leaking and charge the battery. The bad news is, I have a wedding to go to tomorrow, so I won't get a chance to work on it. Damn!

And the still to do list includes fork oil and filling the brake fluid and bleeding them.

Floats could be stuck, a common issue. Try tapping lightly with a screwdriver handle on the float bowl.

Every step gets you closer dude.. I agree with stev-o, same thing happened to me the first couple times I fired mine from the 2 center Carbs. I ended up giving them a couple love taps and honestly let the bike run for a while and sure enough they stopped leaking on there own. I seems like the new hardware needs to "wear in" a bit and then start to move a bit more freely..

Thanks guys. The bike has taken on the nickname "Two times" since everything seems to take two tries and then it works perfectly. So, I'm not discouraged. Just got one of two tries out of the way!

Wow, that's a pretty color combination. What is the red that you've used? Is it a candy or metal flake? Has some depth to the color and a bit of a shift in color like some of the candy paints have. Lots of the reds are so transparent and are a real tough color to shoot and lay down evenly. It has came out nice. I'm sure you will love riding it and seeing it come together after all the hard work and time you've invested.

The red is a metallic flake and the clear is thick enough that it really makes it pop. I'm super happy with the result.
