I recirced the PCV tube into the air box yesterday and I'm playing with carbs and ignition timing today.  Just got a few other little issues to work out!

And the coolest news is I was nominated for bike of the month on here.  Super stoked!  I'm definitely going to take up one of my photographer friends on the offer of a photo shoot. :)

I just wandered out to the garage to have a smoke and discovered both front brake calipers are leaking at the banjo bolts.  It looks like with this design, going to a banjo instead of a normal flare fitting, the banjo fitting presses on the caliper housing causing the crush washer to not seat fully.  So, a slow leak has lifted almost all of the paint on both front calipers...  Bleh!  I'll double up crush washers to fix it, but I'm not psyched to repaint calipers....again.

Damnit.  I JUST ordered new lines, banjos, and crush washers and convinced myself I wouldn't have a need for extra crush washers. Let us know how you end up fixing the leak.  It will most definitely save me some trouble shooting and painting.

The brake fix was stupid...  The banjo bolts were too long, so they were bottoming out inside the calipers.  I ground them down and they look like they should work fine now.  I just have to repaint the calipers and I can get them back on.  Been busy with track days on the CBR.  :)

Check that the sealing washers outside diameter is smaller than the recess on the caliper. I had a slight leak until I resized the sealing washer, now all is well.

Bakeoff,

Can you post some hi-def pics from all angles of your bike? I am working on a build similar to yours. I may be hitting you up with some questions as well.

Thanks,

I don't have a ton of miles on the bike yet.  But from what I can tell, they function well.  Only time will tell if they'll hold up.  For the price, I took a chance.  I'll report back once I get some real miles on it.

Check that the sealing washers outside diameter is smaller than the recess on the caliper. I had a slight leak until I resized the sealing washer, now all is well.
I went a step farther and ground the top smooth, then shortened the banjo bolts.  So far, so good.

I don't have any yet.  Its been a busy summer and I haven't had a ton of time to work on it or ride it.  I'm talking to a couple photographer friends about setting up a shoot.

I noticed a guy at Dulano's (the host a local bike night once a month) taking a photo of the bike and asked if he could email it to me.  Glad I did!

Pics of her completed.  Well, almost...  I'm stopping by Honda Town tonight after work to get a replacement front brake switch.  Then I think she's pretty well wrapped up.

What a beauty!

I'm waiting for a brake caliper seal to come in, so the bike is back off the road...  Both front calipers were hanging up, so I decided I'd rebuild them. In the mean time, I threw a quick video together of some footage I took on a quick ride one day after work.  Nothing special, but kind fun...

Thanks guys!  Once the darn brake caliper seal comes in, I'll be back on the road!  I was out at Dulano's this month and I'm hoping to make it out for First Thurs this month as well since it will probably be the last of the year..  I've got a track day Oct 2nd at DCTC that I need to prep for, but if things work out, I might bring this thing to the track and take a few laps with it.

How did you make your seat? How is the pan attached? Can you easily remove it to get at battery, air filter, etc.? I really like the way it looks, and may try to copy.

Also how do the RFY shocks work?  Was thinking about getting some for my build. If you could get back at me that would be great!

Thanks

I ended up picking up a track bike, so if I do go down on the track, I won't wad up nice street bike.  In the mean time, I waited almost three weeks for Bike Bandit to send me the caliper seal...  "In stock" apparently means "we'll order it from Honda and then send it out."   Argh!  I threw in the new seals and threw everything back together.  I swapped over to DOT 5 fluid, so if i had any leaks, it wouldn't strip the paint again.  While bleeding the brakes, I noticed a leak at one of the banjo fittings.  Gave it another little crank and it stripped the threads out of the caliper.  Turns out the threads on the banjo bolt were less than stellar.

At this point, I have another caliper I can rebuild.  I'm going to try to get it done this week so I can get out on her at least once more before the end of the season.  There may be some changes over the winter.  I'm still trying to decide if I want to throw a modern front end on it.  And if I do, go with modern wheels to make brakes easy or try to do something like Thruxton wheels on it so I can get some decent tires on it. I almost like the idea of keeping it as is, but goddam, those front brakes suck.  Even with the dual conversion, they're terrible.  Old pads?  Crappy technology?  I'm not sure what to think yet.

Throw a pair of new EBC pads on it before you move over to a new front forks. What kind/size of master cylinder do you have on it.  The stock MC is the wrong size for dual front calipers.

I have a master from a 93ish CBR.  I'll probably order a set of pads tonight.
