What affects Jetting the most, induction or exhaust ??
« on: December 24, 2010, 02:46:46 PM »
Hey All,

Was going to go to 4 Air pods on my 77 CB550F but after consulting with TT and reading other commentary, I've decided to go "middle of the road" and will run the air box that connects to the carbs but not the air cleaner housing.   Have a K&N air pod that I am attaching to the airbox.    I've bumped the mains from 98 to 100.  No other changes to induction.

The exhaust is a full 4-1 Jardine exhaust with stock Jardine baffles in the muffler.

Should I be fine with this set up?    It won't be until approximately May before my build is completed.   Will this put me in the ballpark?

What affects main jets the most?  Induction or Exhaust? My guess is that this Jardine exhaust will run pretty close to a stock
4-1?  The K&N air filter is pretty small but K&N claims it'll flow sufficiently for a 550cc motor with my self-imposed rev limit up to 8000rpms.

PS.  This will be a Bobber type set-up more for cruising and not all out Cafe-like performance.
Looking forward to hearing you insight.

Best regards and Merry Christmas!!
