Stuck in Europe!
« on: December 20, 2010, 07:44:23 AM »
Anybody have holiday travel plans buggered by the bad weather over there?  The rail stations and airports are a mess!!
My parents traveled to Prague, Budapest, and a few other places and have been in Nurnburg since Saturday, trying to get back to Seattle.  Luckily they've got a hotel.  Most seem to be sleeping at the airports, but with the few flights out of the UK, 1300 flight cancellations out of Frankfurt, and all the cold/ice/snow, they might not make it out for a few more days.... :-\
And I hear the weather will continue to be bad.

Make it home safe for the holidays!!!

Most of Europe is iced up and they're talking about it getting worse.
At miday the sun was really warm but the temprature was still reading -5c.
It's 4.15pm now and it's dropped to -9c. Could go down to -20 during the night.
I'd hate to be in Scotland or some of the places where it's really bad. :(

For the pedants here, you can get a °C sign by using <ALT>248 - note that it must be a numeric keypad.

ºC  on a MAC is [option] 0, followed by [shift] c

You can get a whole bunch of different characters using the option key, like:
`¡™£¢∞§¶•ªº–≠‘“πøˆ¨¥†®´∑œåß∂ƒ©˙∆˚¬…æ÷≥≤µ˜∫√ç≈Ω

Hey Andy.... maybe you'll be stuck in Scotland 'till Hogmanay  ???

Much as I would love that I have a new job to start on the 27th....

I did manage to drive to the mountains yesterday though...one of my favourite places were I used to climb -summer and winter...also great bike roads...my first road trip was through here in the rain - wonderful trip!

Near my house in Glasgow

Approaching Ben Dorian, A82 road to Glencoe

look at the road..

and entering Glencoe..

great roads!

I used to climb this in winter - gully on the right -called Easy Gully

and then it was time for lunch...

On the drive home saw this dear at the side of the road..

Temps were -10c most of the day...

cheers
Andy

Unfortunately, stuck in Scotland, here's what Andy has to endure every night in the Pub  ;D... just the world's best fiddle player, Johnny Cunningham ( actually not, poor Johnny came to a very early end r.i.p. )... but his genius lives on..... enjoy

Thanks Schmthaus! This is the entrance to the famed Glencoe area and the mountian just the left of the road is Buchaille Etive Mor -popular with climbers who either go up the front (as you can see in the pic) or up the left hand shoulder which is easier (though still has some scrambling sections).

cheers
