Can we get the Day 1, Day 2 etc schedule from the rider list thread updated with actual dates.

Just to confirm, I am planning to ride up to KZ on Tuesday the 26th, then we are leaving and heading north the next day.

Hey Danny,

Your plan for the Kzoo launch sounds good!  I'll get some timelines pulled together in the next day or so.

Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

Cool. My preparations are coming together. Fixed the ignition switch last weekend, got my new grips today and am leaning towards installing them with new bars this weekend. Waiting for new bullet connectors to arrive today or tomorrow to repair some ground connections, then need to change the oil and filter and do some other maintenance.

My most up in the air thing is do I want to upgrade my headset bearings. I have a bit of a front end shake that I suspect roller bearings would solve. But I would hate to disassemble the front end right before the rally and have a problem stop me from finishing it.

Hopefully we get better weather than the forecast is currently calling for so I can ride it down to my sisters to use her garage.

I went by the Tire this afternoon. Heres a couple photos from the  I-94 side, and also from the Baker college lot side. Construction continues in Baker Lot.

Also a live cam from the Ambassador Bridge, note Michigan Central Depot in upper left of view:

Thanks Kevin,

I've also been talking with 72Yellow about the tire.  It looks to me like we can't get a decent photo with riders, bikes, banner, GZ and the tire in one shot.

Lets move the handoff to the Michigan Central Station.

Also, there's a detailed Day 1 timeline here:

http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=92772.0

Anyone who has a piece of Day 1, please check the timeline and give me any needed corrections.  Time is short!!

+1
Plenty of interesting photo angles opportunities there from what I can recall.
It's currently the most photographed Detroit landmark. ... or something like that.

Like SB41 originally suggested this will be a great spot.  Anyone who knows Detroit (worldwide) will recognize this place.  That's where all the Ford workers came into back in the early 1900's.  That way we really will be launching from the Motor City and MICHIGAN.  No disrespect to our Japanese guest...

I should have been following more closely, but I thought this was going to be the last weekend in July. In going back through the thread, it looks like it will be the 23rd of July?? If so, be aware the Ann Arbor Art Fair is now in progress (started yesterday) and runs through 6 PM on Saturday. I will be very congested. Good luck parking anywhere as over the 3 days, a half million visitors are expected. As out-of-towners, they have no idea where they are going so beware of their wanderings and silly mistakes on the streets.

Thanks for the heads up Bob!  Sounds like AA should be avoided.

Does anyone have a good alternate route from MCS to Hell?

If coming west on I-94, exit at Baker Rd. in Dexter and head north into Dexter, through the downtown area and under the railroad viaduct. Take a right at the next light and that will be Dexter-Pinkney Rd. Head north on it (passed North Territorial Rd.) and pick-up.. I think D32 heading west. That will take you to Hell. Once on D32, remember, don't blink.  ;D

I'm hoping to avoid the superslabs. If we must, we will.

What do you think of Ford Rd then up and around Whitmore Lake?  I'm a West sider so I'm just going on geography, not practicality once traffic & such is factored in.

Can't say as I blame you. I haven't been on an interstate of divided highway in more than 5 years.  ;) Ford Rd to a point sounds OK. Sooner or later it will run into M-14 just east of Ann Arbor though. If you want to avoid all such roads on the way to Hell, check a map and there are many roads north from Ford Rd. that will take you to North Territorial Rd. Take that west until you come to Dexter-Pinkney Rd., then turn right (north) until you come to D32. I rarely ride to the east of Ann Arbor, too urban for me, but by and large, N. Territorial is a nice ride as is Dexter-Pinkney.

I'll keep you guys updated, Toronto riders were supposed to get on the road at 9:00 am, I get a text that they're changing Wohali's chain at 10:00, plus she was going to ride along, but has no 5th gear, so needs to take the back roads. I don't intend to ride at night, may have to meet up Sunday, we'll see.
