I just hope Big Z doesn't get here to early!

Last day of school is June 15, but we have a mandatory meeting on June 23 that runs from 8 am to 2 pm.  After that I'm free and clear.

Hey guys. I was only able to ride the Chicago leg last weekend due to mechanical issues, and it was 45 and raining. I was thinking that I would cruise up to K-zoo to ride with you.

The lastest schedule doesn't have dates for Michigan, but it appears to me like late June is when big G hits Michigan from Ontario. Frankly the Michigan/Wisconsin run is going to be much more scenic than Chicago to Indy to Cinci to Cleveland anyway.

Any updates on the schedule?

I was just looking at your route map on page one. perfect for a Chicago guy, basically the Lake Michigan Circle tour with a few detours.

I'm surprised to see that you plan to ride through Chicago rather than just taking the Ferry from Milwaukee or Manitowoc back to Michigan.

Bankerdanny, it'll be great to have you along.  Are you thinking of doing the whole Michigan route?  I just hope GZ doesn't get here till the 24th of June or later.  I'd hate to miss part of the fun just because of that meeting I've got to go to on the 23rd.

I was thinking of joining in K-zoo and then riding the rest of Michigan and into Wisconsin then back home to Chicago. I a lot of ways this is a better route for me than the IL-IN-OH route since I can make a big circle around Lake Michigan.

Has anybody thought about dropping in at the Gilmore Museum while in Kalamzoo? It's a great place (although car focused).

Hey Banker!

Yes, by all means you are welcome to join the Michigan route!  As for timing, it is looking more like mid July before we'll get it.  Team New England will need three weekends as they don't have enough weekday riders.  Figure 2 weeks for Eastern Canada.  We'll prolly leave Kazoo on a Tuesday or Wednesday and ride on consecutive days so that we get to Cycle-X on the following Saturday.  Seanbarney41 and I have a few beds, a few sofas and some parking here in Kazoo if you wana come in the day before.  We'll be camping a few of the nights while on tour, so pack a small tent and a sleeping bag.

And if you have a recommendation on a bike-friendly route through or around Chicago, that would be most appreciated!!!  I'm not sure what wold be worse, caught in stop and go traffic with air cooled motor in July or trying to stay ahead of an 80 mile-an-hour Kenworth!

[/quote]those boats are kinda pricey when riding is more fun anyway.  Last summer on the way back from Rockerbox I found a way through Chicago with minimal time on I94...you can jump on US12 just south of the Loop, very nice ride through little seen South Side neighborhoods plus Hammond and Gary, but thats just me, i dig the abandoned thread

Ah, that's easy. You can follow the lakefront from Milwaukee all the way to Michigan. There are some nice curvy roads, some beautiful homes and speeds rarely exceed 60 mph is practice and 45 mph in legal limit.

Not quite Sean.  It's looking like Cycle-X will be 7/30 not 7/16.  The handoff from New England to Eastern Canada will be 7/2.  To make Cycle-X on the 16th, Canada and Michigan would have to ride pretty much consecutive days.  That would go out the window if Nova Scotia chimes in and gets included.

I should prolly delete those dates from the schedule until they are more firm.

Ride registration begins at 9, ride pulls out at 10. Total of 70 miles with a lunch break in the middle. No charge for the ride, buy ur own lunch.

I'm looking forward to it!!

Hey Dave,

The 30th at Cycle-X is pretty firm.  That means we leave Kazoo on the 26th or 27th and ride on consecutive days til we get there.  I don't know yet when we'll get the handoff from Team Ontario.  They get GZ from Team New England on the 2nd.  I'm hoping for a handoff in Detroit on either the 16th or the 23rd.  We'll then hold GZ in Kazoo until we start rolling north.

Anyone who wants to join in on the Detroit handoff is welcome to ride with GZ all the way to Kazoo for an overnight stay.  And anyone who wants to roll north can arrive in Kazoo the day before for an overnight stay.  You can also join up with the ride as we head north thru Lansing & Mt Pleasant.  I have an extra bed, sofa and a recliner.  SeanBarney may also have some places to flop too.

All this is subject to change of course, but this is starting to look pretty solid.

I'm not gonna make it, too much work right now. Guess it has to wait till next year.

I went by the Tire in Allen Park last week , and there is a major sewer construction project blocking/limiting access through the college parking lot... lotsa mud too. Maybe better in a month?

Oh CRAP!  Literally!

Know of another good photo op in the area?  Close to the border and easy to find?  We better have a plan B just in case access to the tire is still a problem next month.

The Michigan Central station is is the first thing that comes to mind. It is 10 miles east of the Tire, but near the foot of the bridge, just off Michigan Ave.

Theres also a new Michigan Welcome Center in Mexican town, adjacent to the bridge.
http://www.michigan.gov/mdot/0,1607,7-151-9621_11041_21800_21802_22733-199679--,00.html

Neither Baker College or the Tire are going anywhere. If you dont mind the shoulder of a busy freeway, the photo op is still there.

I'll keep my eyes open and scout other spots as well.

Kind of a gray day here Saturday, maybe you have sunny skies for the Gilmore ride.
