Thanks for your input MJ!  Have you tried a "kidney belt" while you ride?  I'm going to give one a try. $10 bux at Harbor Freight!
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?

What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.

Any more thoughts on route, overnights and photo ops?  How about number of days (for those who plan to ride the entire state)?  Another thought I had was, following the Marquette overnight, the team could split.  One team taking Soichiro Godzilla to Wisconsin and the other team take the day to play in the Keweenaw.  Would mean no photo ops with Godzilla at Copper Harbor, but there would be plenty of AWESOME riding!

We don't have much time to figure this out, maybe 2 more weeks.  Blog #1 should be in the hands of Motorcycle Classics Magazine by now.  It has a schedule (dates and locations) for the tour from Bike Week to Nevada.  I'm not 100% sure if the schedule will make it to press, but one was created for it.

Blog #2 will be out soon.  I'd like to have our schedule in Blog #2 if at all possible.  Plus Old Scrambler has a HUGE territory and I'm sure is as desperate for dates as we are.

ohh no, all these options and poor u.p. geography has me all confused...   However, my personal priorities are riding the funnest roads and overnighting for cheap or free whenever possible.  Five days works good for me but I could do six.  Also, I am flexible and am sure this will be a blast no matter what we do!

I think I still have one of my back braces that I had when my back first went out, I'll see if I can find it.  So far the farthest ride I've had has been to Williamston and back, about 1 hour each way, and my back didn't bother me then.  Rode the bike two up and hit 85 no problem, with the exception of severe head shake (my new All Balls tapered head bearings and wheel bearings should help with that), we could have gone a lot faster.  My father in-law, the PO, really set this bike up nice with the extremely comfortable Corbin seat, handlebar relocation blocks and the Vetter fairing it has a very comfortable riding position.

I will be going for some longer rides before the Big Event to see how things go.

I am fine with any of the aforementioned plans.  After such a long winter I just want to ride and I really don't care where!  There are a lot of good roads around the east end of the UP that we can try out; Lakeshore Drive (Soo to M123), M134 (I-75 to Cedarville), all of M123, and Old Mackinac Trail (runs along I-75).

I still say that the best motorcycling road in the whole state is US-41 from L'anse to Copper Harbor, but if it must wait until next time that is fine too.  I live up here so I can ride it whenever I want! ;D

Mr. Fuzzball, your offer is very generous and it seems as though we will be taking you up on it.

Mr. Rat,

it is my firm commitment to offer my humble hospitality to any and all of the SOHC world tour riders for an easy, comfortable, cost-free overnight at my place,--whichever direction they come from, south, north, east or west.

And dude, it is my fond hope and desire to ride west with aforementioned bunch and meet in Marquette and ride with you that very same stretch of US41 to which you refer, the stretch which I have heretofore only driven in January when loaded with snowboards and the riders thereof on a trip to Mt Bohemia way back years ago.

So that's what I hope. What happens will be what happens.

The plan, however, for the cost free overnight is solid and I personally invite anyone who can make it, even if you don't go any further, come on up and enjoy God's country at least for a day and a night.

It sure is! Michigan we learn as children to express our geographical location with the "hand map", and it's so strongly ingrained a habit that as adults we never get over it.

More options on routes for your consideration.  What if instead of overnighting in Marquette, we overnight in Copper Harbor?  Camping or hotel.  that way we can experiance the beauty of the Keweenaw without the added expense of more overnights, more meals and more days off?

Rat, what do you think as you are local?  Maybe Lunch in Musening or Marquette and dinner on the shores of Lake Fanny Hooe!  ;D

Fuzz, would it be worth heading to De Tour Village and ride the coast or should we save saddle time and B-line to the Sault from the bridge?

I'd say make that decision right after you cross the bridge, depending on the time of day.

M-134 to DeTour has very scenic stretches, and there are nice country black top roads all the way north from there to the Sault.

If a Bee-line has to be made, yet steer clear of I-75, then we pick up Old 27 just north of St. Ignace and ride it all the way up to the Sault. Not a great scenic route, but a sparse-traffic good-pavement 2 laner.

It's my hope to ride down and meet you guys as you get off the bridge and join you for what ever amount of riding is left in the day.

Sounds good.  St. Iggy might be a good place for lunch.  Got any recommendations?

Old School, the updated map looks pretty good.  I'm a little worried about lunch on day 4 though.  It seems to be floating out in Lake Superior and I havn't done the floatation mod to my bike yet! ::)

If you guys are up for the Keewenaw........I had a very fun day on a ride from a cheap hotel near Michigami (left early) and up the Keewenaw to the old mine, and breakfast. Riding north with the sun coming up over the bay is very nice. Photo op in front of City Hall in Houghton.......then down 28 to 38 and west to Ontonagon and 64 along the lake into Porky Pine Park.......take the South Boundary Road (Curvey and Trees) in the park to the south and follow the sign (Left at Stop) to rejoin 64 at Berfland along with 28. Stay on 64 south along Lake Gogebic to US-2, west about 1.5 miles and south on 64 to Presque Isle in Wisconsin. I (or someone else) will meet you to lead on to Hazelhurst for an overnight at CYCLE-X. Next day we ride to my place.

Ken at Cycle-X is anxious to join the fun...................if not with you guys..............then I will try and route Wisconsin a little differently to include him.

Thanks for the offer Dennis and Cycle-X!  A no-cost place to overnight is a generous thing!!  It's definitely something to talk about, but the feeling I'm getting is that we need to cut days rather than add.  Though I gota say, it sure looks like GREAT cycling country there in Northern Wisconsin!!

Something to think about, what if you and Cycle-X join us Wolverines in Marquette for lunch then we'll overnight at Copper Harbor.  We'll follow the route you suggest but instead of staying in Hazelhurst, we run all the way to Cascade.  That way we all get to ride together, Y'all get a tour of the Western UP with Road Captain RatRacer, we see Wisconsin with Road Captains Cycle-X and Old Scrambler and the Wolverines won't have to take more days off.

Its out there to think on.................doing the Keewena and getting to my place would be a very long ride. You could maybe save a day and skip Keewena and just go from Marquette or Copper Harbor to Cycle-X for lunch, then to my place, still over 350 miles.........just thoughts. There are several more nice roads between Cycle X and Green Bay.  I could put 200 miles on in a day just in my backyard.........Road America, Kettle Moraine Drive, the original SCCA course through Elkhart Lake, County Rd LS along the edge of the Lake Michigan Bluff, ..............OK, your on a tight schedule.

When I spoke with Ken he mentioned something about setting up a tent for you guys with food and a possible engine test run on their testing equipment if the timing is right ;) Now that would make for a great video post. Godzilla running the show! He said if only 1 guy shows up it really wouldn't be worthwhile however. he was really excited about the idea.

These all sound GREAT!!  And yes, something worth talking about.  I know that Sean and I intend to ride the entire Michigan leg, returning via Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana.  I think MJ would like to also.  For a chance to see what Cycle-X has to offer, I'm sure most of the Yoopers would be interested.  Not sure about the HondaChopper guys coming from the East side of Mich.

Dennis, would the CheeseHeads wana get in on a day in Hazelhurst too?  Great opportunity for a larger meetup, particularly if we could steer this to a Saturday.  Ken's offer is most gracious, so I don't wana scale it above or below what he envisions.

What would the accommodations be like in Hazelhurst?  Many of us will be packing camping gear if it's just a lawn and a bathroom.

FYI, I'll be traveling heavy, toting the Mrs and pooch in a sidecar.
