Have we gotten confirmation on the overall route - so we can guestimate when it will be headed to team northeast?

Moontan,  I know where the Camp David area is, about an hour or more west of me.  I could meet you somewhere between there and SE PA for a hand-off.  My zip is 19390-southern Chester County...Larry

Thank you.  What do you think about Conowingo Dam or Rocks State Park?

Conowingo Dam is right down the road from me.  We could bring all the vintage Hondas to the Union Hotel/Bar ::) ::) for lunch or a fight with the Harley guys.  Seriously, it is at most 30 minutes down Rte 1 from here.  I have a large house and shop...Larry

Cool.  I haven't been been to the dam in ten years.  Maybe you can show me what I supposed to be doing.

The ride from Thurmont to Conowingo is 90 miles and I will be riding for 3 or 4 hours.  I have chase car.

The bike is not tested until May, but much dollars invested and all the help from the forum tells me it shouldn't be a concern.  The rider would be a bigger concern.

I have to plan my availability three weeks in advance.  Can anyone give me a schedule?

I'm trying to find out a schedule too.  Bobby seemed to think it was getting to us near last, but I was going off the original pattern that had it coming across the states from Bay area tom us, then back the other way along the northern route.

I could be all mixed up at this point - it's been a while since I've seen an official map.

Yes, thats the map published in motorscylesclassic http://www.motorcycleclassics.com/2011-honda-relay-ride/sohc4-forum-relay-rally-across-america-is-ready-to-launch.aspx.  And it says " to San Francisco (4/28) before heading east again" which makes me think this doesn't pass to us until May or June.  The problem is the map avoids Washington, DC like we all do.

There is an event in Maryland May 22, http://www.classicmotorcycleday.org/flyer.html.  It's not SOHC4, but it's worth a look with some beutiful history.

Cook this idea a little more and somewhere a schedule should become convincing.

Could someone help a little with a schedule?

That map was traced by my cursor just to show coverage of all lower 48 and DC plus the southern Canadian provinces. It is not a route map. We should be through Kansas by no later than 5/15 if the "plans" work out. Picking up Godzilla 5/2 in western Utah then heading into Kansas on 5/8 probably. 3 days in Kansas with the first just a short partial day into western Kansas from Colorado. Day 2 into Topeka then day 3 into Missouri. From there Don R and crew will be taking over until it's time for Team Mid Atlantic which will ensure that our nation's capitol gets to see Godzilla.

I get that the map isn't an exact route map - but is the general gist correct?  Is the way it headed west, then east, then west again - for the ending in the west, is that correct?

Bobby originally thought that this thing would get here around June. But then last week there was talk of august, which seems to represent a shift in main routing.

We have a DC rider, so no worries there.

Yes, the general gist is correct.

June should be good too. I expect DonR of Team Central to meet us in Topeka, KS before 5/15 then head eastward. We haven't set anything up between us yet. I'll be heading through KS on 5/8 and expect to take 2 to 3 days to reach Topeka. I want to get there earlier during the week so we can all meet up at Motorcycle Classics magazine with their editor Richard Backus. Not sure how much time he needs or his routing but I would expect you guys to have Godzilla in hand before June 1. I haven't taken a look at our tentative timetable lately, just thinking out loud here.

DonR - are you out there?? Any plans on your end yet? Tag, you're it  ;)

Looks like Jerry is saying by June or before for it to hit team northeast, but then the time it takes to get up to NYC is is a different matter. Shouldn't be too long after though.

So is it June or August for NY area?

By August we should be traveling between states and provinces headed west again on the final northern leg after exiting Maine. Now if you guys were to dip back into upstate NY south of the lake then on to Niagara Falls like my drawing "suggests" that would be after Team New England and into Team Eastern Canada immediately prior to Team Michigan. That would probably have been later in July. With that being said the routing is the final decision of the riders. We didn't have anyone/enough in upstate NY chime in and the routing is ending up north of the lake rather than south. Sooo the NY riding looks to be in eastern NY like NYC, Woodstock, etc. Please check in with BobbyR on those details. If some of you guys wanted to ride south of the lake you could still do that by branching off but Godzilla will be traveling north as it looks. Maybe meet up at the Falls?! Godzilla body double perhaps?  ;)

I think this sets us straight. Bobby must have been thinking dip up northwest NY, but we are all down here (including Bobby).

Thanks for the clarification.

What is driving the route is the location of the riders. It appears our northernmost rider in NY is in Pine Hill which is fairly close to Bethel. This is a riders ride so the route is as democratic as you will ever find.  ;Da Wherever people want to wander is fine, The only thing we have to do pick a date certain to meet up with Andy and the New England guys and be there.

I would like to ride a few exits on the Palisades Pkwy, maybe up to Bear Mountain. Does that fit into the route?

The route Bobby and I talked about a while back involved heading up the Palisades toward Bear mountain, then maybe winding our way toward West Point and eventually Woodstock.

Sounds great to me. Just as you get onto the pkwy from the GW, there is an overlook park that would be a great starting point. Nice photo shoot of the GW and the Hudson River in the background. I would trailer my bike there and start north from there. Looking forward to meeting everyone.

That is a beautiful overlook.  The road that takes you down under the bridge from Ft. Lee to the site where they filmed the Tom Hanks movie "Big" is pretty cool too.  It's right on the water.  But that would be hindering forward motion, and I am not sure if it would just tack on extra time to the ride.

The best overlook on the Palisades Parkway is called the Rockefeller Lookout, I believe.

Several come up on the google maps when I search, but as long as you know where it is, that's great.  I know that they are all pretty gorgeous, and I don't think we can go wrong with that stretch of road.

Maybe we will even shock riders from other parts of the country that don't realize that NJ has some areas that don't look like Secaucus :)

Is "Secaucus" Italian for "Arm Pit"?  ;)
