Just so happens I was doing some scouting this morning. The roads are in so so shape up in the Bear Mountain area. We could meet up around Sloatsburg and head up 7 Lakes drive. You boys wanna head up and we can do some scouting c'mon up.  ;D

With all the cold and snow that the teams have had to go through, might make sense to do the southern route first before coming up north. Maybe the next time they do this, they might consider it.

Doggie Doug,

That's what we are attempting to do, follow the seasonal weather patterns the best that time will allow. Godzilla will be heading back east the last of May and we have many REAL western mountain ranges to cross from California to Colorado Springs. While this is technically spring time we still have to be aware that it can snow at that time crossing the mountain passes at 12,000+ feet . It's a hit or miss proposition, something that the riders must prepare for. That's all part of mountain riding in the western US and we enjoy it. This is why we have alloted much more time on the initial legs. We will be taking approximately only 2 weeks on the second transcontinental leg to move from CA to OH or so.

Glad you joined up. Hope you'll enjoy our little trip  ;)

Jerry

That's a very nice writeup. I'm sure there will many more stories like his, but probably won't be as well written. This whole trip will make for one helluva book.

Paul, there should be a book on this.  Not only individual story, but the story of how with no sponsorship, a loose organizational and individually directed structure, and a club that exists in a virtual world, rode around the physical world. Amazing

What I meant was that the Mountains of Va. and WVA. are still a little cold this time of year. Maybe go to NC and then head west. Just my 2 cents. You guys are doing a great job. Can't wait to be part of it in NY.

Doug, since you are in LI could you get with the NYC riders and plot a course up to the Bear Mountain area.  We have riders coming in from Pa and NJ so I am thinking we will need multiple satellite meet up areas and then converge somewhere as a group and head up to Woodstock. Everyone should have a chance to carry the the little guy.

Baron, you are pivotal to success. We need someone to take the Godzilla handoff from the Va team and get it into Del/Pa. Can you reach out to the Va guys and get a handoff point?

I was thinking of meeting the NY group at the first overlook on the Palisades Pkwy. A nice photo shoot spot. Then ride up to the Bear Mountain Inn for refreshments and another photo shoot. From there up to Woodstock. Might need a stop halfway to there, not familiar with that area.

Isn't Godzilla coming to PA via OH?  He's already been to Virginia.

Also, Team Central is working on their final dates.  Prolly time to get your list of overnight stays in order so that you can assign dates and riders.  I don't mean to be pushy, but saving these details to the last minute can break the back of this thing!!  If you were to get Godzilla on the 5/20, 21 or 22, when could you get him to Woodstock?

Check out this thread for where he's been and where he's going.

Not pushy at all. You are correct, time will get short quickly.

The riders in each State have to start communicating since they know the roads and how far they want to ride. I don't know the roads in Pa

Below are two possible routes from NJ and Pa to Woodstock, I can tune it so no rider is left behind within reason. I have to work with getting him through NYC with those riders.

Here are two possible routes starting at the NY Border and up into Woddstock.

It seems to me, the key here is to get the word on how the thing is coming up from the south (DC, Maryland etc) into PA and then across Jersey.  I could have sworn that the plan at one point was for someone to take the hand off from the riders on the PA/NJ boarder, who will be coming up north with IT.  Then that rider would come into the city - to Times Square (am I crazy with this recollection???).

Then from Times Square - myself (and any others who are on board, would be bringing it up north toward you Bobby.  Palisades was thrown out there, then on to Bear Mountain perhaps, and then further north to Woodstock (route to be determined).

We need to shore up the southern riders coming up north, and then toward the city.  Once here, I think we have it well under control, no?

OK GUYS - IT'S TIME TO START WORKING TOGETHER AND GET YOUR PLAN IN GEAR!

The ride is pretty much planned out up until your region. Start with your handoff from Team Central and you western PA riders get together, decide where each will ride, and when you'll meet up/ride etc. Plan your handoff to the next riders and so on.

IT'S YOUR TURN - LET'S SEE WHAT YOU'RE MADE OF  ;D  ;) GODZILLA WAITS FOR NO MAN  8)

You're crazy!  The way to get IT into the city is for you, me and other likeminded riders to speak up.

How about someone delivers IT to me in Perth Amboy or Staten Island?  I can take IT up through the Brooklyn, where I can meet Norstudio and we will carry it on through Queens, down through da Bronx and into Manhattan?  In case anyone is not familiar, this is a 26.2 mile route known as the NYC Marathon!  Pictures of Godzilla attacking Times Square can ensue, at which point the NYC contingent will leave Manhattan via the George Washington Bridge and meet up with the next pack of riders on the Palisades Parkway.

So, who's with me?

I don't think I'm crazy, I could have sworn someone was talking about coming into the city.  Was it you??? It's been so long now, and 1000 posts ago. This has developed into a nightmare for Bobby :)

I, for one, am unbelievably flexible.  I will meet you here in Brooklyn, I will meet people in Times Square, I will even go out to Jersey to grab it if need be.  I may draw the line at Staten Island :)

I thought the concept of meeting in Times Square was because someone was going to haul it in from PA/NJ border - like down route 80 toward the city.  I just didn't think that a photo of the Godzilla in TS should be part of it.  I mean, come on.

I don't actually think you're crazy, it was just internet sarcasm.

Yes, it has been me driving the NYC / Times Square idea.  Is it THAT bad of an idea?  I mean, consider the photo op!

I figured.  I just wasn't sure that it was you - because there have definitley been some people NOT cool with driving in the city.  I do it all the time - so I don't mind.

Where were you planning on getting the thing handed off to you?

I agree, if this thing misses the NYC premiere photo op, it'd be a crime!

OK I think we have the City covered and to miss that photo op would be a sin.  We still have no firm commitment for a Ohio/Pa handoff.

Then we need guys to get him into Jersey. If I have to, I can grab him myself in Matamoras Pa, do a one mile loop in the area so I get my wheels into Jersey and be done with that leg. I can get him back down into Yonkers and you guys can ride him around the City as much as you like. The Next weekend we meet up and can shoot up along the West bank of the Hudson and meet up with New England Team at Woodstock.

I am gonna reach out right now and see who in Ohio is coming into Pa.

Bobby,

Wasn't there a team coming up from down south?  I thought there was a group of guys getting the hand off from the Ohio/PA boarder - and somehow bringing it over to the Maryland, DC area.  Then some group had a ride planned that came up along the NJ/PA border to bring it north.  Or are those the people you are meeting with on the one mile loop?

Somehow, then Weekend_Junkie was going to grab it and bring it into the city.  Then we pick up with the plan to get up to you.

If this latest map is correct there would logically be an Ohio to Pa hand off when they come east. The tricky part will be to get someone to get a wheel into Del and swing up into NJ. I think NY will be the easier part of this region to cover since we have the  riders in place and we know the roads.
