Long Island has great roads on the East End from Port Jefferson ferry to Montauk Point (about 60-70 miles of zig-zagging), and another 40-50 thru Shelter Island ferries to Orient Point ferry. There's been no interest in taking ferries from and to Connecticut. I ride more for recreation nowadays on short trips on backroads, so as much as i'd like to meet what looks to be a great group of riders, I am probably not riding into Western Suffolk/Nassau/Queens/NYC.

If we can get more riders on LI, it is doable. People are signing up for the ride, so let's see what happens. Everything is still wide open.

Hi guys-
BobbyR said something about wanting some help to find a route through Maryland.  If we're meeting up with IT from the Ohio/western PA boys this might work out.  Here's a route that goes from Frederick to DC, then bypassing Baltimore on the way over to Newark, DE.  In my opinion some of the northern Maryland roads are more interesting than the route over to Dover from DC across the Chesapeake.  Skipping the DC leg would save some time and keep us off highway and on more motorcycle friendly roads.  Are we trying to get into DC on this leg?  Baltimore?

I hear ya re: preferring motorcycle-friendly roads, but DC is a unique and iconic photo-op. All riders within its general area couldn't have a better location to promote this run- The Mall. The Marine Iwo Jima Memorial, etc. Of course, parking considerations make some spots better than others.

If we can get riders to follow that route, IT comes within a couple miles of my house in SE Pa.   Rest is available and I can get IT up towards the NY riders...Larry

Mike, that is great and thanks for stepping up and lending a hand. I feel this is starting to come together. We are developing a workable route. Now we need to work with the Jersey Boys  ;D to help plot a route on the good riding roads in NJ. Then into NY and on to Woodstock. Peace and Love, peace and love.

If the route went up the Jersey Tnpk or the Garden State to the outerbridge and then up #440 over the Varisono Bridge onto Long Island. Then the Belt pkwy to the Cross Island pkwy, the Southern State to #135 up to Oyster Bay.
Have to work out the rest of the route.

You can imagine that with a high profile owner like Billy Joel they would be flooded with calls and emails. I am sure they have a phone and email. Mortal men are not allowed access.  :-\

The press said no phone or email. I thought it was maybe to avoid all the people trying to ask him what the lyric meant in the song.... :)

We will see. Not a big deal either way. I was just trying to think of photo ops.

If I get word, you guys will be the first to know.

I read somewhere he was a member of the VJMC Club, that would be the best route unless someone has access to somewhere within the organization.

I just shipped it off snail mail to the address on the site.

I get that email list. Would it be through the NY one, or is there a specific Long Island one?

I don;t know much about the group. Andy CB750 and a group of us tried to engage them in conversation at the vintage bike meet in Rhinebeck NY. They seemed unfriendly. Maybe we just got lucky ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

It's funny you say that, because I posted to the email list about this relay - but no one ever responded.

I met a few guys at a wheel truing workshop - all seemed cool. Not sure. I'll see what happens with 20th century cycles. I'm not sweating it. If it fell on a weekend, we could just show up.

202 and 206 are decent rides and easy to follow.  I would avoid the Parkway or Turnpike, nothing really scenic or exciting.

Actually I think he will be later than I planned. I saw something about Sturgis which is August 8th I think. I dunno I am trying to verify. If IT is in ND in August, shoot we are August. So your paint should be well hardened by then.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I saw the initial proposed schedule in jerry's early post, and I thought I had seen a map too, that had the trip heading west after Virginia (or there about) and then coming all the way back east.  Then north to eastern Canada before heading all the way back west.

Has this changed?  Also, where is the blog?  I've only seen the updates here on the site.

MARYLAND sounding off here.  I live in NE Baltimore and haunt the back roads from Thurmont (Camp David) to Bel Air.  Let me know if I can help.

Hi guys-
BobbyR said something about wanting some help to find a route through Maryland.

That is very nice, one fantastic route.  Could I suggest including Thurmont, RT 77, Catoctin Mountains, Camp David, Cunningham Falls as a handoff or stopping, start point?

That is terrific Moon, we need photo ops and we need to workable route. Mist folks are trying to avoid Interstaes since they are not too  scenic and a bit nerve wracking.

OK PA riders we have an MD rider, so let's figure out a hand off point. I bought a Repro Woodstock poster this weekend I want to get you all to sign it. I will try ot get it copied and get a copy to each Mid Atlantic rider and the New England hand off team.

Moontan,  I know where the Camp David area is, about an hour or more west of me.  I could meet you somewhere between there and SE PA for a hand-off.  My zip is 19390-southern Chester County...Larry
