I think the 22nd is when the team is getting it from the people in Ohio, so it won't be here that quick.

We need to start working on definitive dates though, so everyone is on the same page.

Can the southern folks let us know where they are leaning towards, either coming closer to NYC or staying out west near the DE Water Gap and the PA/NJ border.

I'm chiming in!

yes, I shouldn't have any problem picking up on 5/22, then heading back into DC.  Depending on time, pictures in DC that pm or the am of the 23rd, then heading to lewes for a handoff on the 23rd would work for me.

Is that still the general plan? (I have to admit having some difficulty following the thread).  anyone planning on riding any of those legs with me?

spwg

Edit.. I just saw the 24th, which is do-able but more problematic.  I guess we'll just see what the schedule looks like when it happens.

hancock, MD on 5/22 sounds great.

larry, "spwg" is SUPER PASTY WHITE GUY, who i'm hoping will chime in soon.

it makes perfect sense to me for Team Mid-Atlantic (TMA) to pick it up in hancock, swing thru gettysburg, then take photos in baltimore and DC (now) on the way out to lewes, DE via annapolis. my crue can handle lewes, njmp, up to philly and beyond...

for the record, i ride urban, no sweat. so if nobody else is stepping up for philly, that's me. sounds like nortstudio has NYC metro, and SPWG, if he's still in, can set the pace for DC, baltimore, annapolis, etc...

i can help organize the philly-brooklyn/manhattan leg, too.

go, spring... :)

Cool!

So I'll update the schedule to show that GZ will travel 114 miles (estimate) from the Hancock, MD handoff to the overnight stay in DC on the 22nd.  Then another 100 miles (estimate) to Lewes, DE.  Will he be spending the night in Lewes on the 23rd?

Old_School.  You are definitley helping with the "sleeping" thread. It helps clarify things a bunch.  But this thread here is really becoming hard to follow, as SPWG mentioned.

I think if we know for sure that the GZ gets to Lewes on the 23rd (if all goes well), we need to nail down the next section of the ride.  A while back there was mention of this - but it's getting difficult to get back there :)

Does your sleeping ist take into account the trip from the OHIO/PA hand off?

You can thank Wm. Penn, Lord Baltimore and the two surveyors they hired to mark the border between their "estates", Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon for that!

It is hard to visualize so I fiddled with Google Maps to give us some kind of visual idea of a rough route. There a are two Lewes Ferries one from Lewes and another from Wilmington De. For map one I chose the Wilmington Ferry since it is closer to the Pa border.

One of the problems we will encounter is that the Northeast is more densely populated so we will have to skirt around some serious cities. Once we get north of Yonkers NY it will get more mellow with each mile. This is a nominal route and people that know the respective areas will need to tweak.

It seems like now we just need to to bridge the gap between Philly550 and NYC. Jon said he and his crew could do philly and beyond, so we just need to determine how far north they want to come, or who in the middle of Philly and NYC (perhaps south jersey or eastern PA folk???).

Worst case a couple of us could figure out a quick ride south for the handoff, and then start up again in the NYC area.

I think we planned on going north on the Palisades Pkwy once we cross the GW bridge. At exit #1 there is a road that goies down to the Hudson River that I'm going to check out soon. It would be a great place to meet and do a photo shoot. Easy to get back on the Paliades and up to the Bear Mountain Inn for refreshments and another photo shoot before the final trip up to Woodstock. Any ideas on this route?

Doug,

I think we have everything from NYC up to Woodstock solid.  We obviously can adapt, but the basic plan is there.  Times Square up riverside drive to GWB to you on Palisades to Bobby somewhere near Bear MTN (food?) and then up, up up to the new England boys (or something thereabouts).

It's just the Philly to NYC trip we need to solidify.  If the weather is cool, the Pailisades leg will be gorgeous.

OK fellas they made it to California so the Lizard is going to be coming at us at a rapid pace is all goes well. There are guys racking up some serious miles. Please start working out your personal routes and lets get ready. As I said before out route is tricky since we are in a fairly densely populated part of the Country. I am going to firm up with the New England guys who is coming to Woodstock.

i think there may be merit to adding an overnight in PA, near gettysburg, or in "Pennsylvania Dutch"/Amish Country. perhaps eastern MD, or some handoff further south for pasty's benefit? (adding stops in the denser NE makes sense, anyway, especially if zilla keeps tearing it up like he has. ;)

our forum overlord Glenn is in Lancaster County, PA and is very busy these days. i don't know glenn super intimately, but he may be shy about making too much of a fuss of himself. i for one vote to try to do whatever makes this doable for him.... plus there are good photo ops...

i'm still pulling for the lewes to cape may ferry. (not that i'll put up a huge fuss over it.) the ride thru DE actually gets good reviews from those who have done it. as long as the ride from cape may to philly doesn't happen on a sunday afternoon (shore traffic), it is a pleasant, scenic cruise.

GZ is welcome to crash with me near millville/bridgeton, and/or in philly.

the ride from philly to NY should be evening or early morning, whenever it falls, also for traffic reasons.....

thanks for making this happen, all...

I would say Jon has that part, and I agree about Glenn and the other guys. So far nobody has gotten hurt and we don;t want anyone hurt to save an hour or two or even a day. This is supposed to be a rider directed route.

In the very near future we should begin exchanging cell phone numbers. It will be here soon.

+2 on Glenn. Seems like it'd be a crime for him not to be involved.

I don't think we are in any rush, are we?

Agreed, if it were not for Glenn's work no one would have met and there would be no Rally.
