Lol.......I had to break down and get a backrest for mine. I only use it when my daughter is on back or I'm packing a bunch of crap. 87 bungee cords can do wonders.

Or 2 packs of strecther staps! Bill I finally ordered the tires for the F. Now all I have left is to put the carbs back on, mount the tires this weekend, and get a new chain and side cover from Fraken and I'll be all set.

Travi-i are you riding the F? Im still picking which to ride! They all need an oil change.The K4 needs tires and hasnt been ridden in decade or more. So its probably out unless the right numbers come in Sunday.

Trying to minimize my pack load. Mat or sleeping bag...mat or sleeping bag? Also I don't know what my 750 will do sleeping outside. She's slept in a warm garage ever since I've had her.

Yup, if all goes well I'll be on my F. I still have to finish some stuff finish up on it, hopefully most of it will get done this weekend. Carbs, tach drive seal, tires. Still have to get a left side cover and chain.

   Hey fellow ATL riders, I've been on Google maps almost everyday plotting our ride, I hope you 'll have taken a look at it also. I was in Columbia this weekend and had hoped to scout out photo sights, but my wife's car was acting up so I couldn't. Just as well though, since most of us have a time factor to consider the whole weekend. In Columbia we can still at least do our photos at the state capital, but we will not have lot of time to linger in Columbia if we want to make it home before it's dark, I know I do or be maybe 5 miles away from my house.

From Columbia we can take US-1/78 west to Augusta, (78 miles) then take 1-78/278 west to Madison (99 miles). Madison may be a good place to say our farewells before for you guys head north on US 83, to Gainesville? it's about 66 miles, you can avoid Atlanta's congestion if you go that back way. Take a look at Google maps so you can plot your own course from Madison.

  I do have to avoid riding on any interstates for the most part because my wife will be out of the country, and I'll be the only parent here on US soil, so if I get hurt riding my bike, she will finish the job when she gets back on the 15th! I'll need all of your help to make sure of my safe return to my teenagers Sunday night. But if any of you feel need to hit the slab, the only place I'd be open to it is between Columbia and Augusta, nice rolling hills and the view is not bad. To be discussed more as we actually begin to ride. That's my two cents for today! Vern

Rocker the back roads would get us home in time, but maybe we should hit the slab out of Columbia to Augusta at least, who knows we may have so much fun let our girls run wild that we may stay on 20 all the way home. It looks like by March it will get dark around 6:30, which is probably too late for guys to make it home. Okay, I'll ride 20 the whole way if you guys are up for it!

Bluezboy, how long are you figuring it will take to get from Columbia back to GA? about 4 hours? I'm trying to figure out when we need to leave Bluffton on Sunday morning. Route from Bluffton through Beaufort to Columbia is 3.5 hours with no stops

I would think we need to be gassed and full throtlle no later than 8am out of Bluffton. Cbowers, Ive never been on the east side of 26 past Orangeburg. State park lands? Sounds good to me!Remember that we need gas about 100 miles to be safe? We dont need a pic/stop in Beaufort do we? The MCAS has some jets on the way out of town we could take a pic at but we should just ride til we need gas! I dont think Paris island gate would like all of us pulling in! They were egdy towards me in the pic I posted! Its not a parking area at all! We can ride by the old houses in BFT and get out quickly!
I tentatively have the 12th off to meet in Savannah but if some one books a lg party, I will have to work.Campers still welcome but Im sure you all would be more comfortable at one of the two hotel choices! The Hampton is directly on the rt from Savannah to BFT. You can always book one and ditch it it last minute if the weather looks great! You folks traveling north and south will be tired! Madmtnmotors might not be here til sunset. We might not be to Bluffton area til dark. Cant wait to meet all of you!

I keep thinking how cool it will be to have all these SOHCs riding together. When I take mine out it's usually with Harleys or metric cruisers. I kinda stand out (which is not a bad thing). Wish we had a chase car to get some nice "action" shots.

Question for everyone. Whats your riding gear consist of? Does it vary for long or short trips?

Riding gear - 1 extra change of clothes. Fresh drawers and socks to last until laundry stop. Cold weather layers for your area and time of year. Ditto wet weather rain gear layer. That could get you easily 1 week of riding. Choose a motel with laundry facilities then you have another week on the road. Do NOT overpack! Standard tool kit and chain lube. Very simple and effective unless you're going to do 5000 miles.

Cb, thanks for these links, Bender, I agree we need to be on our bikes by 8 am, that means no beer for me Sat night. I'll be staying with friends on the island and I will be refreshed and ready to hit the road in the mornng. I'm sure there's a Waffle House in Bluffton where we can all meet up, I'll check that out beforehand. I'm for just going straight to Columbia, I'd forgotten about the fire hydrant and the great murals there, I'll pass on the African Village, too cheesy for me. We'll need at least 4 or 5 hours to get back to Atlanta before dark depending on the routes we decide to take.

Gave my 750 a bath over the weekend. She's going out Sunday for her yearly checkup. Have a friend that is an ex Honda master mechanic. He works out of his house, does a bang up job, and is very reasonable. I only trust my CB with him. This will be the longest ride I have done on her so I want to make sure she's in tip-top shape.
