Too cold in the garage to spend some quality time with the 'ol 80 CB650.  Gonna get a major overhaul this winter in the warm comforting glow of the TV and warmth of the livingroom.  lol





*UPDATE*


Going to need some new parts.  Where is the best and most cost effective place to buy?  (Or newer parts that will fit?)

Swingarm bushings
New front brake master cylinder (the original one is completely shot and cracked) (What will fit on my 80 650?)
Front brake cylinder.  (Cleaned mine last spring but it needs to be replaced.  Pitted internally)
Steering bearing sets
Upper engine gasket set (leaking oil at head and valve covers)
Shift seal
Fork seals and dust seals
Fork oil brand/type?


Anything else that I should look at replacing??  Wheel bearings are still nice and smooth with no play..  Engine runs good so I *really* don't need to tear into that other than the oil leaks..

Yes, married.  Just didn't get along with the other guys involved at the time.  Dunno where she went.  Honestly.  Out of state shacking up with some ex.

Anyway-   

It's been -2F here lately so turning the garage into the cave is tricky as the Pepsi and beer keep freezing up.

Although... I would put down some plastic, then dropcloth then spare carpet to absorb the grease and oil.

Its on a 3/4 sheet of plywood with vinyl floor covering and a layer of cheap carpet on top of that.  Stapled to the plywood.  Will be using plastic pans as the project progresses.

Me too...but I am married with a very understanding wife. Plus, she loves to ride and has been riding with me since the 70's. This is the 6th winter here in WI that I have put a CB750 or other bike in the heated patio to work on it. Good lighting, TV, sound system and I can shut the door too. The only deal is I have the bike out in spring...no problem Dear!   Only got into trouble once when I did some polishing out there...dust all over. This winter I am finally getting the K1 ready for candy gold.

Absolutely outstanding.  And your pal snoozing on the couch won't run off on ya.  In the low teens Farenheit here; there's so much I could do on the CB550 if only da wife understood about bikes in the house.  "But honey, it's a mental health issue! You say I'm grumpy all the time . . ."

*update*

Started disassembly last night.  Rear end, swingarm, exhaust and more are off the bike.   There was at least 1/4 inch side-to-side play due to worn swingarm bushings.  Gah. 

Who has the best price on swingarm bushings?

I like bikes in the house.  I have bike parts in the house, seats, tanks, fairings ect.  No bikes in the house, but my shop out in back is heated with the bikes and my tools.  Man needs to work where he is comfortable, cause this is a hobby.
