Mine don't look like crap..just looks like it could use a wash...and the conservatism dictates not wasting water on it today, if it's just gonna look unwashed again tomorrow. If I'm gonna wash it, I want it to stay nice lookin for at least a week. I'll scrub it up real good if I'm going on a long ride, say from Idaho thru OR and WA to the Canada border.. but I'll wear the dirt of the miles with pride for a few days after I get back.. ;D

In the world of car culture, you serial polishers are known as "trailer queens".  Not much point in spending money on a bike so you can put it on a trailer and haul it to vintage bike show.

Don't knock it just because you don't do it. Those guys put a lot of time and money into their rides and are proud to show it off!

Back in the early 70's when my bike was still fairly new, I would take it to the (then) 25c, do-it-yourself car wash and give it a good squirt. There were 2 things wrong with doing this: The wheels rusted on the inside when water got past the spokes, and the minerals in the water would plate out on my coil wires causing no end of ignition problems. Sooooooo, I stopped washing the bike. One day, the UPS guy came by to deliver a package, pointed to my bike and said "gotta say, that is the filthiest 750 I ever seen". I think I was proud then but I keep it clean now that it's restored. I do blow it dry straight-away though to minimize problems.

yes minerals and soap etc. are a definite problem that's why years ago I decided to start using Windex to clean my bike. Yes Windex, it cuts grease and wax. But that's me, I don't advocate it, I do as I will and so should you! Merry Christmas everyone!!!!!
