Carb Balancing Tool
« on: March 20, 2006, 08:32:04 AM »
As part of a restoration of a 73- 500  that will soon begin, I am gathering all of the tools and things that I will need to get the job done.  One of the necessities that I used was a carb balancer called "Carb Stix".  A low tech but very useful tool that kept the 500 running well.  Over the years, the mercury has evaporated.  Does anyone know of a source for a small amount of mercury , or better, a more enviromentally friendly substitute?  Any help will be appreciated.

Loads of posts here about carb sync tools.

Most use either the Morgan Carbtune II which uses steel sliders in place of mercury (which you shouldn't be able to buy anymore...), otherwise use dial-type which are much more expensive.

My carbtunes cost £20 on eBay.

In the USA K&L were listing replacement mercury for the  carb stix. Not sure if its still available though.

Do a google search for this item. I believe there were at least 4 places that listed it for sale.

I don't suppose there are any of my Canadian friends in the GTA who would have a Carb Sync tool that they would be willing to loan a fellow member  ;D ?

I have to do a carb sync once it comes out of storage and it seems a shame to buy one as I hope to not have to balance them again anytime soon...(could be wishful thinking I guess...)

Actually if someone knows of a place where you could rent them I would appreciate that too...

Thanks,
Dennis
