I've been wanting to get out to east oregon for quite some time now (havn't been past fossil) so I'd be more then down to carry from there to portland, or even just tag along. wouldn't mind going north either. I'd step up and coordinate, but I'm not at that coordinated myself.. Has anyone posted this up on the pnwriders forum?

Shoot me a PM with your info (name, location, ride info, etc) so I can get you added to the master list please.

It's kinda difficult for me to help out in the PNW without a pointman Regional Coordinator especially considering I'm trying to deal with the BIG picture. I'm still in need of someone to step up to help get your region organized. There is plenty of time before "IT" gets to you guys however but no reason you can't plug in some routes ahead of time. Looks like Ofreen aka Greg will be bringing "IT" into your region from Idaho so you could communicate with him for a possible hand off point that would work for you guys.

Is the PNWRiders a separate forum from this? That is an excellent idea. Thanks for volunteering

As I said above, I can get 'IT' into eastern Oregon. Since right now, It looks like I'll have to do quite a bit of riding just to get 'IT' into Idaho from whoever brings it to Montana or Wyoming. Then back across Idaho to Oregon. It isn't the miles involved, but the time (I'm still a working stiff), so I'd prefer to meet up with someone in eastern Oregon. But like I said above, I am willing to discuss it. A lot depends on the timing.

Mapquest sez it's a 7hr run down 84 to Boise, which might be the best OR/ID meet up place, if Ofreen's goin across MT to get "it". So..a day to get there, probably 2 to get back, if the riders come back on the country roads...one thing we discovered last time I was back that way is some (most?) of those little towns close up at 6pm, so if you're out of gas, you're out of gas till tomorrow.
While I do appreciate Ofreen's commitment to crossing MT and WY to get "it", I'm hoping none of these legs will be at the mercy of a single rider. Certainly not a comment on anyone's riding ability, but, since it's a group effort, we need to be supporting each other ON the road, as well as partying at the stopovers. Don't want to hear someone say "been waitin a couple days now, where is he?" and someone else sayin "..well, I gave it to..and he took off.." and some poor guy broke down in the mountains/back country of whoknowswhere or abducted by a Sasquatch. At the very least, we need to know who's gonna be doin what, when, and where, just in case we need to send out a search party...

I might be the only one on a SOHC4 on these legs, but I probably won't be alone. Plus, though I have every confidence in the bike, I can't escape the fact that it is 36 years old and is approaching 130,000 miles. So I'll have a back up plan. But if anybody wants to travel with me on their SOHC4 on the legs through Nevada and Idaho and wherever else I end up, they are more than welcome.

IT may be looking for a handoff from Sturgis S. Dakota about August 10-15. Nothing firm at the moment but just so you can see the potential. It sure would be nice to cover the big parks in Wyoming and Montana.

Just a thought..........If IT could get to western Montana or northern Idaho by August 24 or 25, I could arrange to carry IT to Bonneville by the 27th. Or.....if IT gets to Bonneville or Salt Lake City, I could carry it north through Idaho, Yellowstone, and western Montana on September 3 through 7 but someone would have to take the handoff from there.

Well, by the map, it's leaving CA, going thru NV, UT and CO on it's way due east, then coming back west thru Canadia and down into MT into WY and over to ID....sounds like you're going north and south when IT's going east and west...

Just looking over the map...since there don't seem to be a lot of folks in MT or WY....if the route from UT to CO could jump up and include the bottom part of WY, I'd think about runnin up to the top of MT, maybe with Ofreen, and get IT from the AB/SK guys..then depending on where it comes in..maybe Great Falls to Missoula to Grangeville to Baker City...cuts thru the middle of ID..much as I'd like to do the Portland to Seattle and hand off the the BC crowd, we gotta lotta Portland/Seattle folks... Northern Idaho and Montana are also on my list of places to check out. The route I was looking at on Mapquest (for my own personal trip) went Portland OR-Spokane WA (5.5hrs/352mi) -Bonner's Ferry ID-Sunburst MT (7.5hrs/421mi)- Great Falls MT-Missouls MT-Grangeville ID (8hr/452 mi)-Lewiston ID-Walla Walla WA-Portland 7.5hrs/315mi) Total miles -1640, estimated time 28-30 hrs on the road..looks like a 4 or 5 day trip to me... (partially posted in the NV-UT-CO section..)

Nipping WY from CO is a distinct possibility that my Team can do which I've considered but I'd rather wait until it's necessary before planning that. I have a couple options I'm working on. One would be a northern CO route from US50 to Park City to Vernal, UT and across US40 to Rocky Mtn Park. We could head up before RMP or right after. I'm also touching base with some of the guys in the SK threads to see if they will join in the fun and allow us more options. I'd sure hate to leave out Old Faithful (the geyser not the SOHC

)

Never been to Yellowstone either and it is right on the corner there...If I go Portland-Bonner's Ferry-Sunburst-Butte-Livingstone-cut thru the middle of Yellowstone-Jackson-Boise-Portland looks like a 5, more like 6 days/2300 miles, 40+ road hours on mostly big roads, but I guess ya gotta do them, to get an idea of where the better little roads might be......

If the time and the money's there, so am I...so we're talking roughly August? Handoff near Bonner's Ferry or Sunburst? Hello...Canadia...??

Looking at the map again, there's also Porthill Id, and Rexford and Babb MT that would be good handoff places for the US side, Coutts is right on the border near Sunburst

I'd probably be interested in that, depending on timing. You can't go wrong with riding any of that area.

NEWS FLASH ABOUT TEAM PACIFIC NORTHWEST

Today I spoke with BikerBart. He has volunteered to be the Regional Coordinator for Team Pacific Northwest. With his appointment this fills all the Regional Coordinator positions for the entire Rally. Please welcome Bart along side. He has extensive touring experience and I'm confident he will do a fantastic job and be a great team mate. You guys will enjoy working with him to make Team PNW great. Remember, it's your ride, it's your routing so have a great time! I'm confident Bart will be PM'ing all those that are on the master rider list so stay tuned.

Please use the thread Bart starts. I will sticky it so it will stay in place with all the other Regions. Once Bart's topic gets stickied I will lock this. I an unable to assign this thread to him and I would love to merge the threads but as far as I know any merging would go to the older topic and I feel it's important for Bart to have his own.

Thanks again to all you riders and your contributions to the forum and the PNW topics. It's your forum, your ride, and your region.

I'm in Billings. I confess I haven't read up on this rally as much as I should yet, so help me with the bigger picture. I'm on the list to ride, but I don't know the time frame expected for the rally to hit near me, or where I would be riding from/to...

point me in the direction I need to go to appreciate the bigger picture for me to ride. This will make an excellent motivator to get my bike finished...

Hey BikerBart!! I'm currently speculating on biting off a big chunk for my summer ironbutt vacation. Assuming all goes according to plan with the bike, the job, the money, and the time.....see reply#10 for the route I'm planning on taking. It would be kinda nice to meet up with some Idaho and Montana guys, so far only Ofreen and Timdhawk have stuck their hands up, and Ofreen's got his fingers in a couple pies. Kinda waitin on the Canadia guys to let us know when and where they'll be handing IT over the border into Montana, and I'd be happy to ride with and let any Montana guys pick IT up at the border and give IT a ride thru their backyard. I think Paulages said he might make the run to Idaho to bring it into the Portland area, might be some unspoken Portland guys/girls thinkin about doin it with him. So, tentatively, I'm lookin for some E.WA/N.ID/W. or N.MT guys might wanna ride with me to meet it at the border, any MT guys wanna run it down the state and thru Yellowstone, any Mid to S. MT or E. ID guys wanna catch up at Yellowstone and run IT to Boise where we may meet up with Paulages and anyone who comes with him.

Bart is just getting his feet wet so I'll jump in. We'd expect the rally to hit your area later in Aug perhaps. It's impossible to get exact especially with almost everyone else riding before you. MANY variables, known and unknown. My question to you would be: what kind of range would you like to ride? IT ALL DEPENDS OR WHAT YOU WANT TO DO!! This is your ride. You guys will all work together to formulate YOUR plan. You just have to connect the dots with the other riders. I will say Yellowstone is a target.

We'd like to have some more riders up your way if you know anyone. That's a BIG beautiful area. You will probably be working with Ofreen aka Greg on riding together or doing the relay with one another. Also ndstrylgrnrngr. Ofreen has MUCH experience with 130,000 miles on his 750F. ndrxxxxxx (never can get alphabet right) is planning on doing some serious miles too. I'm sure they'd appreciate company too.

I am thinking Highway 20 up and over the Mt.s then on up to Osoyoos.The coast and western parts are no problem,its the handoff from the east on over to portland Or that is going to be tricky.

I recall some seattle riders are heading to portland to meet up, and then come up thru seattle to 20.
Maybe jump on over to hwy 9 and up to 20. I-5 is pretty boring ride from Seattle north.
the hwy 20 route east is gorgeous. then i'm guessing up 97 to Osoyoos.
Like i stated before, i'm happy to put up any rider(s) making the journey from Portland to Canada if needed.
Kinda smack-dab in the middle of it all.
I'd be up for a meetup/handoff in the Renton/Mercer Island area then up to Everett/Marysville/Arlington portion.
(basically all of the 405 and hwy 9(to arlington) map areas)

If I can, I may try to ride several days of the ride, will see what happens.. the major bad thing that could happen, is I get a new job, that I cant get a day or two off from.

THE BORDER
When we cross each time, what we are carrying, ie flag/mascot etc.. will have to be dealt with, they may just let it slide, or wurstcase they will charge duty/tax on perceived value.. just saying...the more stuff, the stickier they get..
