Fair Market Value of a 78 cb750 Four K?
« on: June 13, 2005, 10:39:49 PM »
Hello All,

I am brand new to this site, so I would like to say thank you for welcoming me. I have a simple question. I need the "experts" opinion on what your feeling is on the fair market value of a 78 cb750K. Everything on the bike has been restored to original condition. Here is an overview:

The bike was torn down and rebuilt 2 yrs ago.
All the parts are back to original.
Both original side covers with emblems
custom paint job on the gas tank
about 90% of the chrome is polished
seat is in good condition
Currently has an aftermarket Kirker (4 into 1) exhaust
Original pipes (4 pipe exhaust) is included
Two other handle bars of various heights are included
two other seats (original and King Queen) are included. Both need to be recovered
Tired are 2 seasons old (this being the second season)
running in exellent condition (carbs are dialed in and adjusted)
ONLY MAY need a tune up.

I really appreciate everyone's help. I thank all of you in advance for your opinions. Oh, one more thing, I live in the Bay Area in California, US, in case that may help with any assessments. Thanks again.

Are you buying or selling?  What shape is the original exhaust in?  If you're buying, do you LOVE this style of CB750, or do you like the older styles?

If everything is as it sounds, this should easily fetch $1000+, especially if the exhaust is in good shape.  I'd suggest that the 77/78 aren't as 'valuable' as the 76 and earlier models - assuming everything else is equal.

If you like it, and can get it for $1000 or less, it's a good deal - again, only IF everything is as it sounds.  By rebuilt 2 years ago, what exactly do you mean?  What was involved in the rebuild?

I would pay $1000 for this depending on the miles. It looks great and if it runs good, thats even better.  I myself do not like the look of the earlier 750s much. This is the year I have and once I get it cleaned up, it will look almost as good.

Considering any bike running is pretty much worth a grand, and the only person who would pay more for an older model CB750 is someone on this web site only. "most buyers won't  have an opinion one way or another"  I would give it a value of $1500-$2500. maybe more if it really is turn key.

I have done a complete resto/cafe on a 78 and could not be HAPPIER :D

Didn't mean to knock the 77/78 750 - my first CB was a CB750K7  ;D

Some of us didn't have the entire pedigree history of Honda 750s when we bought our bikes. Seemed like a good idea that day is all.........No hard feelings here either,  It's hard to gather value. Based on what?

I'm almost finished reading "Motorcycle maitenance and the art of ZEN" The author talks alot about (Quality). What is it? We all know if something is of quality but have no idea how to define the word.

Hello all,

Thanks for all the information. To answer some of yours...

1. I am looking to sell this bike. It is unfortunate. I have grown attached to the bike after putting the blood sweat and tears on it. Plus, this was my first bike. I learned to ride on this bike. So needless to say, it has sentimental value. But I was presented with a deal that was just too hard ot pass up.

2. What was involded with the rebuild: well, mainly it was tearing down the from end and rear, polishing the forks and all the chrome pieces, repainting the triple tree and basicall all the other parts except for the frame, rebuilding the carbs, finding original side covers, finding stock air box, oil separator, painting and lining the gas tank, and a major tune up (syncing the carbs, adjusting the points, new rotor and stator, etc.)

3. The bike is very turn key. It fires right up.

4. The original exhaust is in good shape. There is some surface rust, but nothing that some steel wool couls not handle. Also, it could use a polishing job. But other than that, very good shape.

Again, thanks for all the information.  :)

First bike? Don't sell it! You'll regret it later!

Still wonder what happened to my first, !982 Honda XL100S.

That is a nice looking bike. Considering what some of the new ones cost, what will they do that this one won't?

Now,if I were in the market for bike[I'm not] and if this one is as good as it looks,I think I would be willing to pay more than a gran.
Like I said ,what will a rig that cost 10 grans do that that one won't!

Hello all,

Sorry, I have been really busy with work and school, preventing me from posting. But I wanted to thank everyone for all of thier imput. TO answer some more of your questions:

It will be tough getting rid of the bike. Kinda built up that sentimental value, however, like I stated before, presented with a deal that is just a little hard to pass up.

Ans what is this deal? Well, I don't want to make any ememies, but the same friend who gave me this bike for free and helped me restore it to its current condition has an extra bike. Him and his wife have three bikes between the two of them, so he offered to sell me his extra bike for the sale price of the 750. Tough decision.

Well, thanks all for the input! I am sure that I will be talking to you soon.

What, you've got some sort of problem with having 2 bikes???  Just buy your friend's bike for $750 and keep them both.  Really, what's wrong with people today  ;D
