Hah, if your not riding a SOHC, your not on the list.  I see Heffay on the list, innersting.
Did you PM Jerry to be added to the list? It's easy to be missed. Get the floats fixed so you
CAN ride an SOHC! ;)

Southwest Riders.  We seem to have an issue.  Goofaroo probably will not have his bike fixed to make the ride from OKC to TX.  the AR bunch and one from Tulsa figure it would be better if we road through OK but instead of OKCity that we met for the handoff at the TX welcome center north of Denison or something like that.  That way IT will get through OK but just not to OKCity.  Any suggestions?

thanks

Can anyone from the Dallas side ride up to Denison on the 19th?  Then meet us on the morning of the 20th?

TipperT,

Are you not on the rider list? 250+ riders gets kinda long to scan every time a name comes up which is why I've asked for prospective riders to PM me. I can get you added in about 4 seconds. Hate to leave anyone out.  ;) And I may have to ride my unmentionable non-Honda with another SOHC4 rider just so I can ride. And to think I started all this. Ain't that a kick in the ass  ;D

Heffay had planned on riding here in Colorado but his family will be moving to AZ after the ride goes through there and 3 days before it gets here. Just saw him this past week. They are doing well.

FYI, this ride is for anyone but only a SOHC4 can carry Godzilla. There are a few non SOHC4's on the list and I may have to ride an unmentionable non-Honda myself. If you know someone that wants to be included either PM their info to me or have them PM me. I can take an email but it works MUCH better if I can stay within the forum.

Coke, I'm assuming you guys may get to Denison early enough on 4-18 that anyone meeting you there from DFW could get it back to DFW the same day? If so, TEXAS gets another FULL day!!!! :) :)

I would think that we could be there around 2:00 pm or so.  it is about 200 miles and about 4 hours if we don't make stops.. but I am sure we'll want to make some.  is that going to give TX enough extra time?

What say you guys in DFW? Could you take the hand-off in Denison at 2:00, and be back home that day? It's only 90 miles, or so I hear.
A word of caution; use the extra day wisely. There is still a hell of a lot of road to cover to get from Austin to AZ. I strongly suggest that 1/2 of the added day be used for this. In other words, you now have 1 1/2 days to get from DFW to Austin, instead of 1.

Could someone that knows the roads in the area please post a map of the fabled hill country? Various known good riding routes, with pins every 40-60 miles. Please, just the hill country, so we can figure out the best way to include what I hear to be the best riding in TX into the relay.
Thanks

I guess I missed something. I've asked several times where and when the hand off from Ark/Okla  would be. If I am reading it right, Okla. just got cut clear out and Texas just picked up some extra time.  I would have liked to run part of the okla leg, but mebbe won't get to.

Oklahoma didn't get cut out, just OKC. Check the separate hand-off thread....

Hey Taxi, I thought that Coke said he had talked to you about what we're planning? No one would give us an answer on meeting in OKC so we decided to just go through part of OK from Van Buren on our way to TX. He was going to see if you wanted to meet in VB and head out from there. Look at the AR/OK hand-off thread for more.

Taxi,

I am sorry if you feel you have been left out.. I thought you were coming to my house in Van Buren and we were going to head over into OK and head south to TX together with Radam.  there was just no one that was going to be in  OK City and you were saying you would meet us at I-40 in AR.  I offered my house for you to stay.

what ever we can do to make it right .. let me know.. if you want to go to OKCity and then south Radam and I could ride with you so far and then let you carry it the rest of the way..

By NO MEANS were we leaving off OK.. Radam and I were more than happy to go to OKCity but there was just no one there.

http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=83821.0

check this thread .. there are messages there where I asked you if you wanted to stay at my house etc  as we were trying to get this thing set up.. there was just no one in OKC that could pick it up from us.  I never heard back and Goofaroo's bike was out of commission in OKCity didn't seem right to head to OKC when you were from Tulsa and me and Radam were from Western AR and we could as easily drop IT off in Denison and still get some riding in.

Again apologies if it sounded like OK was getting cut out.. that was not the intention at all.  With TX having such a short time for a large state and OKCity out of the connection, I suggested that we 3 head to TX Monday and let TX group have a bit more time.

If this is a problem it is ALL my fault and I will take responsibility for it..   Don't think that RxMan or Scottly or Radam was responsible.  I started to get worried about the OK City hand off which isn't able to happen and changed the route a bit.

I think Taxi did indeed miss something. I think you were correct to raise the question about OKC, and suggesting that time saved there could be better used in TX. Thanks for your solid contribution to team SW!

Time to explore options guys: If Godzilla spends the night 4-18 in DFW, where does he sleep 4-19? Is it possible to take enjoyable roads from DFW to Houston in one day?

Hey Coke!  I missed all your communication. Was looking in the wrong place ... was just looking and leaving messages in this thread. Would be happy to meet you all at any place. Just needed to know when and where. At Van Buren or somewhere along I40 would be great. Wife is gonna run the chase car if she can get off.  Mebbe I40/75 and south to TX. Or 9. Either way or another way is ok with me.  918/747/7019.

Taxi,

If you and wife want to come down Sunday afternoon, you are welcome to stay at my place.  Have already cleared it with the wife (MIL doesn't know yet though LOL)  then we can head out nice and early (well not too early) monday morning.  I would like to hit 69 somewhere in OK so we can take a pic of Godzilla with the 69 highway sign..  :o  .. other than that I am game for any route.

Just let us know what you think about that idea

BTW.. don't know if you know this but there is a link at the top of the forum page under your Hello Taxi that allows you to show new replies to your posts and then brings up a list of threads where you have posted that new info has been placed.  Radam and I were replying to the post you left on the handoff thread.  Not to the one over here.. when you click on that link it gives you the list of threads and you can see what other people have posted where you have posted before..

Cheers  and see you on the 17th

It's typically around 4 hours (less if you drive like me) from Dallas to Houston.  By bike, I know it slows some, and by scenic route, slows a little more.  I would think it's do-able.  The DFW to Houston leg shown here doesn't stray too far from the main thoroughfare (I-45) and only adds 30 - 50 miles (depending on routing) to the straight-shot route on the interstate - comparision:

"scenic route"   299 miles - 6hrs. 58 mins.
http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=211361146505888212306.00049eff284c0f0ee67f0&ll=31.512996,-96.416016&spn=6.357214,11.271973&z=7

Interstate route   242miles - 4hrs. 7mins.
http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=dallas+to+houston&ie=UTF8&z=7&saddr=dallas&daddr=houston&geocode=FYuI9AEdfWg7-ilLl0V79xlMhjGPZ0f2pJvsuQ%3BFUQlxgEd6pFQ-ikBhY1ItLhAhjE7BWXz3gINyg

I'm not sure why Google's time estimate jumps up so dramatically, seeing as how the miles increase isn't that substantial.

Anyway, some food for thought. I have pretty modest accommodations at the moment, but depending on number of riders, I think we can find places for everyone here in H-Town if it's an over-nighter.

I'm down for Houston as long as we keep this biznitch on schedule, which it sounds like we will.  Architect, you still got the in for Ace?  That sounded like an awesome idea when you first mentioned it!

Well done guys and gals!

So do these dates & locations look about right?

Sun  4/17      Van Buren, AR
Mon  4/18      Handoff to Team Southwest - Checotah, OK
Mon  4/18      Dallas/Fort Worth, TX
Tue  4/19      Glamore Girls -
Wed  4/20   Austin, TX
Thu  4/21      Texas Hill Country
Fri  4/22      Lubbock, TX
Sat  4/23      Las Cruces, NM
Sun  4/24      Phoenix, AZ

The "handoff" in OK is really a place holder to show that indeed Godzilla did at least one full turn of a rear wheel in OK.

Well, technically, Team Southwest has OK in it's terratory.  As stated in my note, the handoff is a place holder just to show that OK was touched.  The AR riders are planning to meet some riders there that's why I picked it.

I don't mean to confuse the issue there on the ground, just want to make sure OK gets documented.
