One more interested in the Austin leg of this ride.  I also noticed that the route goes through Lampasas TX, and then down and around through Marble Falls and out to Fredericksburg.  Love all those roads and know the area really well so I could be up for most, if not all of that section.  Might even suggest that Blanco or Luckenbach could be worthy additions...

First post related to the relay, so PM me if there is more i need to do (besides buy one of those awesome godzilla t-shirts) or any more info is needed on the above mentioned areas.

Offered up the "Blanco/Luckenbach out of Wimberly" route a few posts back, nobody seemed very interested. We will see? I am personally "down" for what ever as long as classes dont interfere.

CBGhia: You should think about some other road other than Hwy290. Not that it is bad, just possibly a little lack-luster compared to some of the other options out there.

Dyskord - nice recommendation, too bad no one jumped on that.  I agree with you about 290... At least dropping down the extra few miles of 281 to get to Blanco (then to Fredericksburg) is a much nicer ride.  Or, if the route does end up touching Austin at all, taking 290 out of town and catching Farm Road 165 to Blanco is another great option.  I just rode it a few months back going to the Harvest Classic, and FR 165 is one of my new favorite roads.  Not to many miles, but awesome.

Kinda surprised more Austin folks haven't chimed in...

On out to Harvest we took RR12 from Bee Caves down to wimberley then out to Blanco and then to the Classic. It was gorgeous.

There should be five riders from the Austin area.
Keep in mind, the riders set the route, Scottly, please confirm.

Looks like Coyote will be riding south from Dallas, I plan to hook up w/him just Northwest of Austin, maybe Burnet? [south of Lamasas on 281].
I personally do not care to ride in Austin.
Ranch Road 1431 is fabulous, it runs just north of Lake Travis and Lake LBJ on it's way to Llano [via 29] and one of Texas great BBQ joints - Coopers.
This would be a great area for an overnight camp stop.
I know this area well and am sure it would be enjoyable.

I'm thinking (here we go again) that we ship this year's mascot to Europe once we've completed our journey here and let "IT" carry on there as the natural extension of the 2011 Ride. OR send "IT" to Australia since it will be spring time there before going to Europe! Now thats a better thought  ;) THEN we can start all the "discussing" all over again here and have a new different 2012 mascot. On the other hand maybe I just make an official appointment and be done with it  ;) Hell, as soon as this year is done it will be time to start planning for next year. 3 more months of pre-ride logistics will make a big difference in what gets accomplished beside the actual ride part.

We could always just do a continuous, never ending loop around the US/Canada. THE ULTIMATE SOHC4 RELAY!!! Hell I bet we could set some Guiness records with something like that!



And yes, I am planning on heading south from Dallas into the Austin area, you guys decide on the route and let me know  ;D

Thanks, but I'm afraid I might mess it up. ;) Besides, I don't know the roads in NM: gregimotis and the others that will be riding that section should lay out their preferred route...

I cant believe you guys are going to bypass all those wonderful roads in the hill country and ride 281 and 290 the whole way! Thats a shame.  If your goal is the destination then it serves the purpose, I prefer the ride. Enjoy all that straight concrete, cage assasins and big rigs.

No, we're not!  I started to edit the map this morning but I did not have much time and could not do it quickly.

What do you Austin guys think about meeting Coyote [coming from Dallas] in Burnet? It's about 1 hour NW of Downtown Austin, and I know a great route out of Austin. [Lime Creek Road and Ranch Road 1431].

Hey TX folks, about how long does it take to get from DFW to Austin, riding to enjoy the ride? One day, starting out fresh from DFW?
