Going strait through, it takes 3 - 4 hours. Riding to enjoy the ride, 6-8 maybe. That's with a lot of breaks. So, I would call it a day.

I haven't ridden it, but from a buddy's experience riding in a group on backroads it took about 5 hours. Don't quote me, but it sounds reasonable for "enjoying the ride"

We are trying to get an idea about dates right now, so the following team can adjust accordingly.
From what I can tell, the relay will arrive in DFW on 4-19, possibly the day before?
If the relay leaves DFW the next day, that would put it in Austin on the 20th or 19th.
How much time should we allot for the leg from Austin to Lubbock? Is 2 days enough?

After reading a few dozen pages of posts on three different team threads, this what I can come up with.

4-18, relay arrives in OKC
4-19, relay arrives in DFW
4-20 relay arrives in Austin
4-22 relay arrives in Lubbock
4-23 relay arrives in Roswell(?)
4-24 relay arrives in Duncan, AZ

Have we come up with some sort of protocol for the handoffs? From my understanding, I'm gonna be picking up "IT" in Duncan for the Arizona team, but I don't know from whom. And I'm not certain how far I'll need to ride through Arizona for the next handoff. I'm thinking the guys handing off and picking up should have some communication beforehand, exchange phone numbers, etc.

Thanks for the timetable. I'll keep my eyes peeled for future updates.

Team Austin - I'm planning on joining for the Burnet to Fredericksburg leg. I might push a little further north, but I don't think I can swing a ride all the way to Lubbock midweek (too many days off). Has anyone committed to riding to that hand off point?

If the Dallas guys want to end in Burnet, I can pick "IT" up there and get it to Fredericksburg at least. I'm thinking this might be a popular section, so I bet there will be several along for this portion of the relay. If someone else has already called dibbs, no harm no foul - I just want to ride along.

So far, it sounds like Coyote will be bringing "IT" to Burnet, I hope he continues on with Team Austin, as this is where the ride gets real good.
I changed the route slightly last night and would like to modify it more to take advantage of the great Hill Country Roads and not 281 & 290.
We could still hit Fredericksberg, but I suggest Hwy 16 south out of Llano and FM 965 passing by Enchanted Rock.

Are you guys interested in camping? I know a couple of great places we could camp right on Lake Travis. [free] One place has facilities [flush toilets and showers] and the other is primitive.

Since this is mid-week, I cannot commit to much at this point, too many projects at work.

I would be honored to carry "IT" from Dallas to Burnet...I believe there were a couple other guys from the area planning on riding down as well? I was also considering the option of camping, as I know there are quite a few awesome spots in the area. I'm not 100% that I'll be able to continue on with you guys past Austin, we're rolling into the busy season and the next few months are a bit unknown. Hopefully I can get really good at scheduling/rescheduling in the next few weeks, who knows, maybe I'll make it all the way to Lubbock! God willing....

Hey NM contingent, hadn't we better be getting out act together? Looks like we only get one day. Gonna have to push pretty hard unless we go mostly interstate, which would be a shame. There's a lot of pretty country just north of I-10 but would take an additional day, I would say. Where are you guys?

I wont know til its closer. My classes all have tentative schedules, so no telling when the tests will be yet.
I also need to sort out my wheels. My rides too bumpy at highway speeds for anything over 20 miles.

I will probably only going as far as Llano. Justin in Lubbock is the handoff there, wonder if he has any interstest in riding part of that leg. Lubbock is 300 miles from Llano.

I think we should try to figure out how to get Godzilla closer to Justin. If Justin has to put in 600 miles, from Lubbock to Llano and back, before heading to NM, that's asking a whole lot of one guy.

Lubbock is 300 miles NW of Llano and it appears we have no riders in that area? Anyone from the Austin area want to volunteer to head north past Llano?
