I really don't want to think that we might have parts of the route "un-manned", but do we have some sort of contingency?  Perhaps a FEDEX or UPS of Godzilla to the next handoff?

A good solution would have Justin [from Lubbock] meet an Austin guy half way, in Big Spring or Sweetwater.

YES, BIG SPRING, ETC IS POSSIBLE. Coyote - not sure what route you're taking back to Dallas, but if you're up to an extended ride, you could head north to Big Spring and then jump on I-20 east to Dallas to get back quick.

Guys I MAY be able to make it to Big Spring, but it really depends on the timeline.

Will try to keep myself up to minute on the ride schedule and keep you guys in the loop with how plans are gonna work out.

Awesome!  I know this ride is going to be epic.  I'm toying with different possibilities, myself.  I'll do as much of the ride as possible, though, that's for sure!

I looked at some alternate routing and came up with this, trying to get different folks' input incorporated.  I think I have at least 3 or 4 Houston riders interested at this point, maybe more.

It's a lot of riding, but it takes in a good majority of what TX has to offer and should be do-able over the 4-5 days we'll have for TX with an easy pace (*I think*    I've never planned out or participated in a long ride, so I don't really know jack!).  It stays off the main highways, winds down to the coast through some national/state park areas.  A ride along the coast ends with taking the (free) ferry across to Galveston, then up into Houston.

A good friend owns + operates a vintage and custom bike shop and rides a SOHC/4, too.  Perhaps we could have a reception there as a "welcome to town" kind of thing.  He and some others will likely join the ride in Houston as headed toward Austin.  Some phenomenal Texas Hill Country riding awaits, there.  I'm showing some riding in the Lake Travis area (perhaps camping there, as suggested?).  Snaking down into Luckenbach, on to Fredericksburg, up into Llano and then headed to West Texas - Lubbock-bound!

Let's keep our route evolving until it works as we all want!  It belongs to all of us.

The Godzilla Group, as it were (just made that up on the spot).  While a welcome party at Ace sounds effing awesomer than anything I can really think up, Houston adds about 10 hours on my end as well as the rest of the Dallas riders, and that could potentially deter some guys from getting that good hill country riding in

And 2.  from your excitement it sounds like you're planning to ride into Lubbock? If that's the case I may be able to swing through Houston, then to Austin, then head back to Dallas instead of on to Big Spring and my timeframe remains basically unchanged, you can take IT on, and everybody's happy.

Thanks for the comments  - I totally get what you're saying.  The route I mapped from DFW to Houston does add a good amount to the ride  .  I'm cool with nixing some or all of southward push, if needed.  I was hoping to stir up some more riders from farther south by bringing the route down and totally got carried away with trying to hit the coast and take the ferry.

And I just might be up for the Lubbock cruise . . . .

Guys, we have a bit of a problem: both the NM riders have had to pull out of the relay... Any one willing to ride with Justin as far as Duncan, AZ?

I would like to join in but I am waiting on parts from Japan to help stop the darn fuel overflow problem I can't seem to fix with what I got.  Still do not know the bike well enough to take it on a distance run. 

Now if your willing to let a Yammy ride along, the bike and I are good with that.  Thinking OK to Dallas or Dallas to something.

 Be as detailed or brief as you like, but please share any eventful moments of your ride, interesting people you may have met, what you liked the most, etc. Don't need lots of pictures, maybe one of the handoff or maybe a group shot of the riders you were with for however far you were able to ride. You don't necessarily have to be the one that carried the baton, but you do have to have already ridden in order to post there.

Please reserve that thread for RIDER LOGS ONLY. Comments to the riders logs there would stretch that thread out to be quite large long before the relay nears completion. By keeping that thread limited to RIDER LOGS ONLY should help improve readability for many of our forum members. I have renamed the "Godzilla Sightings in Daytona!" to "Godzilla Sightings in Daytona AND BEYOND". Please continue to use that thread for posting comments, quick updates, creative pictures of Godzilla, expanding upon the unfolding story of Godzilla's adventures, (almost) anything goes in that thread. Please reserve the Rider Log thread for factual reports and rider's insights only. Our forum moderator will be deleting comments from the Rider Log thread to help promote it's linear progression as our Relay moves forward.

Arch - this is a great route you have proposed except for the straight shot on 281 from Marble Falls south to Blanco. I know the area well and there are much better roads to be enjoyed in the Hill Country.

The route looks good and long winded through two points.  I don't think y'alls arses are gonna handle those ten+ hour stretches on that old foam.  I paid a pro to get 8+ out of mine.

Will there be a vehicle trailing us?  Sorry if I missed a ton of posts, I have not gone through them yet.

Well, the original schedule had the relay in Austin on Wed, 4-20, and two days allotted to get to Lubbock on Fri, 4-22. This would set back the relay by two days. It will cause a ripple effect, at least for the guys in southern AZ, who were planning on the hand-over on Sun, 4-24. It's open for discussion, as we want to include ALL riders.
