You know what...the more I think about it the better an idea Houston sounds. That way you guys get a chance to show some out of towners around your local stomping grounds, we can try to do the deal at Ace, we'll be in Austin by Friday. Win win win (in my mind). Do you think it will set back the overall relay at all?
Well, the original schedule had the relay in Austin on Wed, 4-20, and two days allotted to get to Lubbock on Fri, 4-22. This would set back the relay by two days. It will cause a ripple effect, at least for the guys in southern AZ, who were planning on the hand-over on Sun, 4-24. It's open for discussion, as we want to include ALL riders.

As big as TX is, I think it warrants a couple more days. Especially if we have a commitment from the Houston guys.

The first route that was planned was unrealistic, it did not include 3 of Texas' largest cities [Houston, San Antonio & Austin]

I understand the ripple effect, but it's a Rally, not a race.

I agree: in the early stages, there were no riders from those cities. When the guys from Austin chimed in, the route was modified. If we can include Houston and San Antonio, I think it would be worth two days; just worried about the hand-off to AZ...

The route looks good and long winded through two points.  I don't think y'alls arses are gonna handle those ten+ hour stretches on that old foam.  I paid a pro to get 8+ out of mine.

Will there be a vehicle trailing us?  Sorry if I missed a ton of posts, I have not gone through them yet.

I might be able to arrange for a chase vehicle, if needed  ;D  It'll fit three bikes in the bed, hauls tools and beer just fine, makes for a dandy sleeping/resting/hang-out platform and I just put in a brand new wood bed in January!

She's a '66 GMC that was a construction truck in California at some point in the past.  It still has the original engine, which I believe is the 250ci straight 6.  But I haven't been able to positively verify that, yet.  I've been working on overhauling the brakes this week - only 1 of the 4 worked when I got it!

Not trying to be an arse ..... but would like to see a schedule of some sort. I live in tulsa ok., and would be more than willing to meet at the OK/ARK line (I-40?). Just dunno where/what time/what day for sure. Is a 130mi ride for me just to meet at that point onward. Don't wanna miss it!

After reading a few dozen pages of posts on three different team threads, this what I can come up with.

4-18, relay arrives in OKC
4-19, relay arrives in DFW
4-20  relay arrives in Austin
4-22  relay arrives in Lubbock
4-23  relay arrives in Roswell(?)
4-24  relay arrives in Duncan, AZ

Taxi, you should check the preceding team thread, I believe it's southeast coastal, for the handoff info from AR to OK

Looking at the map, it seems to me the best plan would be for the DFW, Houston, and San Antonio (?) riders to all converge at Austin. It looks like a long ride for the guys from DFW to Houston.

You guys figure it out and let me know what you want to do, so the schedule can be revised, if needed, and made available to the other team coordinators.

Thanks!
Scott

Right on man, more the merrier. So let's say Dallas to Houston, quick hop to San Antonio if any riders speaks up, then on to Austin, and then......?

I'm in for the Dallas to Fredricksburg leg that was decided on when the dates needed to be somewhat nailed down, possibly a little more if my schedule permits.

Just a possible option: what if the riders coming from Austin were to meet up with Justin in Big Spring, then head west on 176 towards NM?

Hi,

Radam and I are the AR / OK link.  I have not heard from anyone that is supposed to meet up with us in OK City.  Is that still a go?  if not how about we head down to Durant and meet someone from the Dallas area at the rest stop in TX for the hand off?

I would hate to get to OK City and find no one to pass to.

thanks

Stev-o, how many days would you guys need to get from DFW to Austin via Houston? Can it be done in two days? How many of the DFW riders are willing to take that route vs going straight to Austin?
