I kinda don't think they should be ridin' through the back country at night but yanno, not my say so.  It gets really dark in there at night.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

I'm up for DFW => Houston => Austin

But then, what if all of the Texas riders except those in the west met in Austin? For the sake of time, it may be easier to get all the Houston, Dallas, San Antone riders, and all the other riff raff (  :D ) together in one place instead of riding around the whole state picking up stragglers.

Put me in with motocyconomad , my bike is going thru recovery from a crash but is rideable. Sorry it took so long to get in but have been away from the web living in my camper up in Conroe as a hermit since Jan. Tom, let's get new front rubber and some pipes for the e-bay bike and a dyno cover for mine. Other than that all we need to do is oil changes !

Found this bike in completely stock condition in Feb. 08. Paid over twice what my new one cost 30 years ago. Am trying to re-create the look of the late 70's Drag Bike styling.More later. 4-2-10 It ain't stock any more and I have no idea what I am trying to create !

For me, this is a ride through Texas, not just a Texas meet-up at a central location.  I see it as people picking up and dropping off along the way - seems that's kinda the spirit of a relay, anyway.  Anyway we do it, I am IN!  ;D

I took another stab at a possible route and removed 184 miles from the previous attempt.  I'd love some feedback.

Steve-O -- you know the Hill Country, so we can lean on you for a good route from Marble Falls to Blanco.  I doctored my previous attempt some, but I bet you can nail it even better!

I understand the niceness of not being on the hiway from Dallas to Houston but would just going down 45/75 not be a faster and smoother route?  We can at least hold a steady 70 most of the way.  Better access for fuel stops too.

Oh, it might be nice to bypass Houston over the top somehow.  Cars coming though the center of Dallas Blows Azz as it is and I understand Houston is worse.

Just me thinking.  Tell me if it is too much thinking, lol.

Tipper I'm just glad to see a bunch of guys on here puttin' our heads together. Team effort and all that jazz. I kind of agree with you too, 45 would be the easiest route, but it may get a little hairy with traffic on the road

OH and I just got my Vista Cruise in the mail today so highway won't be a problem (for me anyways)  ;D

If y'all are changing your handoff date with Team CA, AZ, NV; please let them know as it will cause a ripple though that region and beyond.

Yeah, that's very important all down the line. We have dates set as far out as Kansas City now based on previous planning and Big Jay at APE just informed us that he has set up an unescorted lap around Willow Springs Raceway. One extra day could easily cost my region 1 week. If you guys could include a section of your ride to meet up with the group along the way that would be a good thing. Kinda like the Atlanta crew did. And you'll still get to get in some good riding. Not that we don't want to include all the ideas but there is a point where the time factor has to come into play. I haven't totally followed all the posts here, I mainly look at the new posts so I may not be totally abreast of your planning.

Scottly is doing a great job down your way and I'm sure he can give me a good handle on your area on what I've missed.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

ClimbingAZ and I are picking up "IT"/Godzilla from the OK, TX, NM team.  What concerns me is I see the TX route getting planned out but the coverage for the NM leg appears to be lacking. I know Scottly has said he'd cover it if no one else comes forward, but that doesn't seem fair to him from my perspective.
Is the NM leg covered and I missed it?
Is the fellow SOHC that is in west Texas who drives a truck going to have some company for the handoff in Roswell?

Could you OK, TX, NM riders map out the carriers for the legs to ensure we have coverage from the pickup in OK to the handoff in AZ on April 24th?

Jerry - when the dates were set, no time was allowed for the route to go thru Houston, and we could really use an extra day or two. As you know, there are some great roads in Central Texas and it sounds like a lot of the TX guys want to ride 'em. I understand the ripple effect, but please consider adding a day or two (if one day will cost a week, give us two days).

Texas riders - we need to make a decision once more day(s) are given to us.
Looks like Coyote will ride to Houston. Gordan, Tipper, you guys could meet up with us in Austin if you don't have the desire/time to go to Hou.
And yes, I live in the Hill Country and know the roads well. I can suggest the best roads, beer, BBQ and camping if we choose.

I'll update the Hill Country portion of the map.

I just looked at the hop from Hobbs, NM where the planned hand-off is... It's 417 miles by the shortest route Google would map from there to Duncan, AZ. The plan was for the hand-off in Duncan to be around noon and the riders would be staying in Las Cruces possibly.
Las Cruces to Hobbs is 280 miles and then Las Cruces to Duncan another 150 miles by lunchtime...

Ok 1. Do any of the other Dallas riders want to ride to Houston? and 2. do the Houston riders have any problem meeting in Austin?

Thing being, I feel like the Austin hillcountry is where the really good riding is and it would make sense/save time if we just meet there. That way we all ride highway in, but also get in solid backroads riding through the hillcountry and we don't lose any days in TX.  Yeah we're bigger and better  ;D , but lots of guys have made plans around these dates and it'd be a shame if we start a domino effect and the ride gets backed up for weeks cause there aren't enough guys to ride.

I know there are TONS of good roads through Houston and out to Austin from the coast, but we're not gonna be able to hit EVERY road in TX. I'd be willing to compromise in order to keep this thing on schedule.

For some reason I thought the rally would be here this week... I dont even smoke the devil herb anymore... I'm slipping... I've been bummed for weeks.  ???

I might be able to meet up for a few hours at least and get halfway to Lubbock at most, depending on tests and if I can work out my high speed issues. I guess if we're doing hill country the speeds wont be too high right? I'm fine up until about 65 but I prefer around 60.

Two days to get to Lubbock is nice too. Are there sleeping arrangements planned yet? I've done some camping at the State Park in San Angelo and its pretty nice. After about there West Texas is pretty desolate, probably want to get to Lubbock asap.

I want to make sure I'm understanding the current thinking.  Essentially, all riders who want to participate will be meeting in Austin, going for a Hill Country ride and then heading home.  Is that the gist of it?

If the Austin area is the closest relay ride stop-off/meeting location to you, then that's where you'll join it.  How far you want to continue on the rest of the ride is entirely up to you.

Ok, then . . . so there IS an official designated route?  What is it?  I want to know where I might be able to join in before Austin.  There's a lot of planning on my end because of work and my brother's upcoming wedding, so I want to be clear on the moto rally  ;D
