I'm Gettin' so tired ....
« on: January 17, 2011, 04:41:53 PM »
I'm gettin' so tired of gettin' ready to do something but never getting anything done.  Its finding parts and ordering parts and waiting for parts and constantly searching for that last little bit before I can actually get down to doing some assembly, its just driving me nuts.  And its weld this and grind that and a little primer here to stop some rust and the realization that yet another part is needed, and another delay.

And it does not go un-noticed by the she-ape that every day seems to cost another hundred bananas.  That ain't makin' anything any easier either.

Arggggggg.  I just want to see some progress!

C'mon Kong............thats half the fun of it....trackin' down parts....polishing aluminum..etc. Who cares if it takes awhile? It would be less attractive to me if I just bought a used 30-40 year old bike and started riding it.I wouldn't have a clue what shape it's really in.If ya really gotta ride right now.....get another to ride while you make your SOHC the way you know it should be. ;) ;)

When it's done and you're cruising down the road getting admiring looks from those in the know, you forget all about the big bunches of bananas you spent and fondly remember  swinging from the trees in the shop.

You'll get there soon enough Kong. I was feeling that way just a few weeks back. But on Monday it was fairly nice weather so I took my freshly painted tank and side covers and installed them just to see how they look. Awesome! Then I took some fuel with stabilizer in it and filled the tank just to keep it from rusting for the rest of the winter. Then, what the hell, I thought let's put the battery in. I'm feeling productive at this point so I thought I might see what happens when I turn the fuel on, let it sit for a minute, now where did I put those keys.....ah yes. Put in the ignition, turned to on. Got the green and red light. Well, let's do this I've come all this way! Bammo! Fired right up. Sounds good or at least as good as it sounded before I put her to bed for the winter. Still smokes a bit, damn! Thought that might go away. Well let's see now where is my helmet and new gloves. Nice day and all I might as well take it over to my aunt's garage for the rest of the winter. Backed her out of the 'tent' and took off. Felt so good eventhough she looks a bit funky with white tank and covers and red and black seat but I felt like a made some progress anyway. Took her out around the neighborhood before parking her in her new dry garage. I've ordered a new seat cover from Taiwan which I have to wait for but at least I can ride in the meantime. Progress or at least the perceived notion of it, is wonderful!

anybody can take a bunch of money and throw it at a mechanic and get a great bike.  i get enjoyment from tracking down parts free or cheap and cleaning and repairing old stuff.  i enjoy planning and bydgeting for improvements and I am saving for tank painting back to original on my two bikes.  I also enjoy mechanicing even if i had to take the rear tire off three times to get the brake and sprocket correct.

+1  What i hate is running out of money in the middle of it all, especially if you are really motivated to finish it...

I just can't pin down the money i need to finish {read start} my build, there are far too many distractions. I have some land to sell, trying to clean it up a bit before selling and i could easily sink 10 grand into that, not to mention the never ending bills and now we are trying to work out where we want to buy a new place.....bloody distractions.....IT WILL GET IT BUILT...........eventually...... ;)
