I Don't think work will be an issue, but getting the bike done is making me a bit nervous. I can stay up for days working on it but there is somethings like powder coating and mail delivery that I have little control over.

As for the route, I'm good with all of it and my plan is to be at the western border of Colo to meet "IT" and ride about half way through Kansas.

US24 won't be sooooo lonely now.

Utah is an issue within itself due to a distinct lack of riders at this point. I NEED UTAH RIDERS GUYS!! SERIOUSLY!! Jordan and joshuanagao, where are you guys? We sure need your help! The Utah plan is to ride from Baker, NV to US40 near Park City.

It would be nice if somehow IT makes it thru KC on the weekend of June 4th and 5th. The Heart Of America Motorcycle Enthusiasts 2011 Rally and Show is taking place that weekend. It is a great show to go to and many different makes of vintage bikes make there way to KC for the show.

so the route is for sure 24 that is a nice stretch of road a lot of small towns if anybody from kc is going let me know i can meet up with you in lawrence and ride with where ever your going to meet up.i'm going to be on my 550 (fingers crossed) it should be interesting i have lost about 40 pounds since my last trip on it, so i should be able to ride like the wind.

I figured over the winter the cheapest way to make my bike faster was to loose some weight, I only wish I could say I lost 40 lbs!

Jamesb, congrats on the weight loss.

If we're unable to get Utah participation, it's 628 miles from Denver to Baker, NV. Maybe some of us could do a three-day weekend out and back to get it to Estes Park/Peak-to-Peak Highway for a hand off! That would mean quite a bit of I-70, though. I'd rather be able to putt on some nicer roads back to Denver from the Utah border. This is giving me some serious motivation to get my scoot "Paddy" running!

REALLY glad to see someone clocking in the exact miles

Hope we can ride it together! I've been in touch with CB650 aka Terry about exactly what you're referring to. He may be able to do exactly that and I'm up for it. Considering the mileage, 2 possible options I've been thinking of: Baker, NV or SLC, UT. In communicating with Ofreen aka Greg who will be riding NV by himself, he is up for a Baker meeting and riding towards SLC with us before heading back to UT. CB650 has indicated he could do 3 days SLC and back. He has a son in Grand Junction I'm sure he'd like to see and he said his son might even ride along.

So with that in mind (3 days) I think it would be best to take the dreaded I-70 west for time sake then take scenic US40 back to Estes. Stage 2 of Team Central Rockies could easily be the Peak to Peak to Peak (ie Estes to Idaho Springs/Mt Evans to Woodland Park/Pikes Peak) with Stage 3 being Colorado Springs to central KS.

Still no definite dates but I am scheduled to work Th 5/5, Fr 5/6, Sa 5/7 then again 2 weeks later.

What do the other guys have to say? Can we get any seat time in during the week too? We want as many riders involved as possible.

My schedule is flexible. I can ride whenever, wherever. If it woud help if I could go on the Utah run. But like I said, I'm wide open.

I'm involved in a big project at work that I'm hoping I'll be out of right around the first week in April. I'm involved in an internship for school and I know the company I'm with right now does not have the resources to keep me on past my internship. While that sucks, we have discussed me coming back on as things pick up. My plan is to haul my bike to Omaha as soon as I'm done to have my nephew do all the welding I'm going to be needing, I know that seems crazy but I've seen his work. When I come home at the end of that week everything goes to powder coating, a guy who has done some work for me already and can pull off a quick quality (oxymoron I know) turn around. Another week to put all the big stuff back together and I'll be ready to go.

Sounds crazy I know but I'll have everything ready to go before I head to Omaha like wiring, engine work, and such. As far as riding, I'd love to ride as much as possible but having three young kids and a wife who works makes it a bit of a challenge. Barring any major snags with the build, my plan is to be at the Colo border to meet everyone from Utah. Preference would be Hwy 40 for the ride into Colorado but not being 100% confirmed, I'll go with the group. I'd also love to ride at least half way across Kansas but again the wife job and my kids will dictate that. My wife will let me go but her work needs some notice, she does only work Tues through Fri so I've already got three days and another one or two should not be any big deal. Knowing mileage is great but ideas for dates would help me more, such as when we'd be leaving Denver for Baker or SLC and/or when we might be coming back. I'd rather ride out into Utah and back into Colo then across Kansas, and it might have to come down to making that choice.

I know this post is turning into a book but I really want to do this and just wanted to make it clear what my situation is.

Oh, poop! Today, I began telling my wife about the ride, how it is winding it's way back and forth across the U.S. I told her I needed a kitchen pass what looks to be at least May 1-2. I was surprised she wasn't too hip to the idea (usually she is very flexible). Then, she said, "You're going to miss our ANNIVERSARY?!"

I felt about an inch tall for overlooking it in my excitement about the ride. So, I'm unavailable May 1st, but I imagine/hope the dates might change by then.

Sorry I can't give you a definite answer on that. We are still working on how the Utah portion will go. The Colorado contingent has some wrinkles to deal with, but we'll work it out.

My preliminary plan is dependent on what time of the day I meet up with mrbreeze and company in Fernley. If it is morning, I'd head east. If later in the day, I'll play it by ear. The route may also change, depending on what Jerry and crew come up with. Once the relay actually gets going we should be able to nail it down better. When that happens, Jerry or I will give you a heads up.

I read about the relay on Motorcycle Classics website and I gotta say I like the idea. My CB900 is a DOHC so I could not carry IT but would LOVE to ride along. I'm located in Grand Junction so I could venture into the eastern Utah side with ease as well as western Colorado. I'll keep checking in to stay up on the latest developments. Looking forward to adding some to the odometer

Right now I am working with Terry aka CB650 on the first leg. Turn the long distance riders loose

We'll try to head out about noon on Sunday 5/1 or 5/8 with our first overnight in Grand Junction, CO to spend some time with his son Davey before heading to the Relay point. OFreen aka Greg will grab Godzilla 5/1 in Reno and head toward us. Pick up Godzilla on Monday 5/2 (or 5/9 perhaps due to a couple possible reasons) in Baker, NV at Great Basin National Park or along the I-15 corridor then head back east on US40. Not sure of the stop for Night 2 as this could have to be a 3 or 3.5 day round trip from the Denver/Colorado Springs area. Perhaps south of Salt Lake City? We'll be putting as many miles in as practical as to allow both of us to get back Wednesday for Thursday work. Night 3 could be as far as Estes Park, CO or vicinity. We'll cross Trail Ridge Road provided the road has been cut out of the winter snow banks and opened! Timing will be close on that! One of the last 2 roads in CO to open from the deep mountain snow. 12,000+ feet. Otherwise we'll have to bypass that section altogether and head more directly to Idaho Springs and Mt Evans. Same potential issue with Mt Evans.

From Estes Park at the eastern entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park we'll head south on the Peak to Peak Hwy (Longs Peak to Mt Evans) to Idaho Springs, CO then ride up Mt Evans which is the highest paved road in N America at 14,400+ feet where I will hold a personal ceremony of which I will divulge another time. From there we will take the back way into Woodland Park, CO and ride up Pikes Peak which is also over 14,000 feet but not paved on the top section. Stop over in Colorado Springs then head out for Kansas across the Great Plains stopping perhaps 1/3 the way across KS and meet up with the KC crew. A stop in Topeka at the offices of Motorcycle Classics is a must!

Now with all this being said and me mentioning only 2 riders, I'm not intentionally leaving the other guys out. Some of the guys have said they could ride some of Utah, meet us at the border, etc and I'm expecting a small crowd to ride Estes Park to Colorado Springs, and a few to head toward Kansas. I understand it all depends on days/dates. So now it's time for all my riders to start picking their riding and let me know.

OK, seems y'all have a bit to nail down yet. Since some of the dates vary by a week or more, I'd rather hold off publishing your dates in the MC blog right now (hope you agree Popwood!). People would get rather peeved if they took time off work only to find that the ride won't happen until the following week.

OH #$%*, I'm thinking Memorial Day in May not June.

That eliminates Trail Ridge Rd and probably Mt Evans. Dammit

Haven't had time to look at a real calendar. In my profession there are never holidays so I don't key in on them I guess. Change of plans it looks like! Plan B (not the emergency contraceptive Plan B) will be forthcoming. Thanks Steve. Any northern suggestions eastward besides I-70? US40 through Steamboat is always good then we'd have to dip down.

You interested in riding with us? Company is always welcome. We'll be doing an overnighter in GJ before heading into Utah.

Unfortunately there are only two choices on the western side of the state going east/west other than I-70. Hwy 40 to the north and Hwy 50 to the south. My pick would be Hwy 50 to the south but it would also depend on where you need to end up on the Kansas/Nebraska side.
I would be thrilled to join you for part of the journey. I'll keep checking in to stay on top of developments. I appreciate all your efforts on this. Hope it all goes well!
