Do they make tire chains for bikes??

No need to risk you neck on this!  Hero Riders should be limited to long distances and long day!  This ride is NOT a Pony Express reenactment, nor are we restaging the Iditarod!
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

It looks like the only nasty part right now is getting into Vail. Before and after that, it's dry roads. Should be clear by the time we get there.

Loading bike. Denver here I come. Leave by 9.

Apex, see you at Terry's.

Roads look clear mostly and like Apex says, Vail Pass should be cleared by the time we get there around 2pm. The high temp is forecast for 33 at Vail. With that, the traffic heating up the road and maybe some sunshine hopefully the roads will not only be clear but dry as well.

Just got back from a terrific ride. I have nothing but respect and admiration for Jerry, Terry and Craig for riding over on Sunday. A hearty crew to be sure. Leaving Monday morning we had to scrape the frost off our seats to get going. I must admit, for me, if I need to put on long underwear to ride-it's just too damn cold. But after the three of them braved the snowy elements of Eisenhower tunnel and Vail Pass to get here, no way was I going to wuss out because it was cold.

Although parts of the day were really chilly it ended up to be an outstanding day of riding. Met up with Greg for the exchange of Godzilla, log book, banner and lunch.

Took an nice road I'd never driven before to get up to Vernal, across the state line and into Dinosaur, Colorado. An appropriate spot to overnight for Godzilla.

The trip home was on the chilly side but very nice. The poor condition of the pavement detracted somewhat from the fantastic twisting and rising road.

Home safe. I hope you guys have had as good a time as I did. You're welcome here in Junction anytime.

I also meant to add a BIG thanks for letting me tag along. It's like Jerry said, "If you've got a bike that runs and has air in the tires - well get out and ride". By my calculations we ran 425 miles on Monday. I added another 109 going home for a total of 534. Every mile was a treat. Some of them cold treats but I really had fun and was happy to ride with you. The miles go by more easily when you are running in a pack. It is a real testament to these machines when we ride them the way we did. I'd be happy to send you all a disc with the photos I took. let me know and thanks again!!

Great job, guys!  I rode hardpack snow over Flagstaff's pass last year, so I feel ya!

I just finally got Paddy running today!  I'm going to ride around the house on a few errands to see if he strands me like he did Saturday.  Jerry's probably in Burlington by now, but I may see if I can run GZ around while he's out working.  Sorry for the late notice, I just knew I couldn't be counted on to show GZ Denver based on how much I had to do to piece Paddy together in a short amount of time.

The only thing I'm concerned about now are the smoke signals of oil coming out of my #4 cylinder's plug hole.  I need a head gasket in the worst way!

Off to test Paddy's mettle.

What a great COLD 3 days! Couldn't ask for better guys to ride with  :D

I made it home right before dark. I'm trying to get caught up on stuff and I have to clean up Terry's bike for another little ride so I'm limited on time right now. Maybe I can get something posted tonight but I will have some time while out working.

Theofam and any of the other Denver area guys,
Godzilla awaits. Hope the bike works OK. I can make arrangements with you to get Godzilla one way or another. He can always wait for you on the porch but he needs to be back here for his Sunday ride up the Peak and his trip to KS. If you guys would like to ride with some of us just let us know. You can ride around locally before Sunday, ride up Pikes Peak Sunday am with me or ride along with Terry some of the way to meet me and even sign the banner and the log book. Saturday is open but I won't get home until late afternoon. I leave for Burlington at 6:15am Thursday.

Terry,
You just don't know how much the creator of said event appreciates the loan of a bike to ride 2000+ miles! I'd never be able to live it down if I had to ride my H@r(*y  :o Always great riding with you. See you Sunday.

Craig,
Still don't believe you did 1000 miles on those Clubmans and in minimal gear (compared to me) for the cold. Helluva rider! My first thought was are you crazy or just a badass. Now I realize you are a crazy badass! Glad you enjoyed your first call of the road  ;)

Steve,
Thanks a million for the accomodations. Great spare rib dinner! Fantastic that you could come along. Enjoyed riding with you. And didn't I tell you that pass would be good. Road was a little rough but a fun ride for you I hope. Any time bro! You have my number.

More to come later once I check pictures and load to Photo Bucket.

POSTED THIS ON THE MAIN FORUM. May need someone to take Godzilla to Oakley, KS from Colorado Springs or pick up Godzilla and take him to Terry in Denver.

OK guys, I gotta figure this one out. Terry's 82 CB650SC which I'm borrowing for the Relay is doing fantastic except for that damn petcock. I started getting fuel starvation before we hit Green River, UT. I'd go about 70-80 miles and it'd want to take a crap on me. Pull over, let it sit a moment and off we'd go, top it off next gas station and off again. It made it home. I assumed I was going to find a dirty screen that was blocked somewhere along the length that was not letting gas pass below that level. That wasn't the case as it didn't have a screen. NOW, I've taken it apart to clean it out and I can't get that sum#$%* to not steadily drip. I don't know what the inside is supposed to look like and the microfiches do not show the guts. What I found was a reddish orangish rubbery substance in a bunch of pieces inside the petcock. Whatever it was had been destroyed by the gas.

I need suggestions on how to make it work without being able to get any parts or a loaner, etc petcock by Saturday afternoon AND I will be out of town working until then! The urgency is that I have Godzilla all by my lonesome and he could be stranded without a SOHC4!

HELP!! The petcock fits these bikes: (20mm)

  CB1000C A (83) MOTORCYCLE, JPN, VIN# 1HFSC100-DA000001 TO 1HFSC100-DA007620
CB1100F A (83) MOTORCYCLE, JPN, VIN# JH2SC110-DM000001

PM or call preferably 719-963-3080 if you have one that you can get to Colorado Springs by Saturday. I am supposed to leave for Kansas Sunday and we don't have any SOHC4 riders here.
