How much did you get, if you don't mind me asking?

:-\ A sad day gentleman.  I received an offer that was too good to pass up on my 750.  Don't y'all worry though, I have almost two months to replace the void in the stable and I am still committed to doing my part of the rally!  I will keep my eyes peeled for another CB and will have it roadworthy by the end of April.

I might take you up on the trailer thing. I'd much rather ride from Riverside to SLO than to Riverside.

Note, that I also have a trailer and can take two bikes.

Has anyone thought about my suggestion of going North through Palmdale? Will that be too slow, too long?

Im planning on joining from San Diego. I will also have limited time, so i may trailer up to Riverside and just leave my truck and the trailer there. Riding a 350f from SD to riverside alone up the 15 and THEN doing a 5 hour ride sounds less than appealing.
I have a 4 door truck, so if Odie and Onewheel wanted to join youd be more than welcome

From 138 near Ape's headquarters and Willow Springs, to Santa Maria takes about 3 1/2 hrs. From the intersection of 166 and the 101 to SLO would be about 30-35 minutes, but I did it once much faster! ;)

How about if you guys coming up from San Diego could meet up with us in Joshua Tree, and then head to Big Jay's. Are there any riders in the greater LA area? If not, no need to consider Hell-A. Any chance of getting someone to drive the truck with trailer? It would be nice to have a support vehicle along the way. Also, while the ride to Santa Maria might be ok spread over 3 days, the ride back to AZ might be a bit daunting for a lone rider. If I had my druthers, I would hitch a ride back to JT. From there back home wouldn't be too bad.

Revised route schedule -

4/24 - Climbingaz, RAFster122s - Duncan to Phoenix/Prescott
4/25 - Scottly - Phoenix/Prescott to Kingman (Kayjohn and company meet at Seligman)
4/26 - Scottly and Ksslr - Kingman to J.T.
4/27 - Onewheeldrive, Odiewan, mycb750k6, joe29, socalenduro, scondon - Encinatas to SLO with hand-off in J.T
4/28 - Fatmatt, scondon - SLO to San Francisco Bay Area(Grumpy, Domer, Geminimotors, Mr.Breeze, Stueve, TPColgett jumping in at Santa Cruz or Woodside or somewhere)
4/29 - Fatmatt, Grumpy, Domer, Geminimotors, Mr.Breeze, Scondon, Stueve, TPColgett - San Francisco to Nevada
4/30 - Ofreen - Fernly, NV to Baker, NV
5/1   - Jerry - Baker, NV to points east

Climbingaz, RAFster122s need to coordinate handoff to Scottly

Scottly, Ksslr need to coordinate handoff to Onewheeldrive, Odiewan, mycb750k6, joe29, socalenduro, scondon
Are you guys (scottly, ksslr) definitely stopping at Joshua Tree or might you go further?

SoCal route needs to be planned out - Looks like Onewheeldrive, Odiewan, socalenduro, mycb750k6 are all in the same area and should coordinate a route up to the handoff w/ AZ crew. Can y'all realistically make San Diego to Joshua Tree to SLO in one day? It looks possible but not much fun. Google maps calls that 8 hrs. 9 mins. and 473 miles taking the shortest route and w/ no traffic. I'd figure more like 12 hrs staying off the highways. Might be better to break this into 2 days. Maybe trailer up to J.T. in the morning then take the scenic route through the mountains and then camp out at one of the state parks in the Malibu area, handing off to scondon there for the leg north?

Scondon - Looks like you have extensive experience w/ the roads from SoCal to here, can you put together a route proposal that will get IT from
Joshua Tree/Riverside (exact handoff is still TBD) to SLO?

It sounds like fun but I don't think APE is happening for us unless IT gets into AZ a few days earlier than expected.
So much to do, so little time.

Going to look at a SOHC4 tomorrow morning.  Stay tuned!!

Matt, I think you are right in saying that SD to SLO by way of JT is quite a long trip for one day.  Trailer to JT may be reasonable as it would just be freeway driving anyway.  Either way, I'm very much looking forward to getting on the road with a bunch of y'all!

WOW Sean!!!....Looks like they got you down for alot of ridin'!!! At first I thought about going out to the coast and then heading east to Nevada. I think I'm gonna chop out the coast part of it and jump in closer to Modesto. One of the earlier route proposals had you guys coming from the bay area to highway 4 (Stockton?). If you do that....I could meet you at Farmington (small 1 horse town about 20 miles east of Stockton) from there....take 4 to Angels Camp....head north on 49 to Jackson.....head east on 88 to Reno.
Who all will be coming from bay area to Reno? Where you guys wanna lay over at? Anyone wanna take it with me from Reno to Fernley (I think around 20-30 more miles) to hand off to Greg? Lets keep this planning going!! Looks like we are honing in on a for sure route.

I'm liking that route (4-49-88). How about Bay Area riders meeting up in the morning (maybe at the GG Bridge, Gemini's place or elsewhere) and riding out to Tahoe, camp at a state park or something and head back the next day? Would anyone else be into that?

Like I said....we need to know who all is going. The only problem for camping with me is packing gear. Who all wants to go all the way to Fernley? Some of you are going to have a full day if you are going down to Santa Cruz, back to SF and then over to Reno. I should have no problem leaving from Farmington, staying over, then headin' back the next day. I'll more than likely look for a motel out in Nevada.

Matt,

Is the APE thing an issue with the race dates there or just not enough time to route to APE? Other? Sean was planning on being there and Jay can make something happen on a non-race day too. It would be a great stop and who wouldn't want to lap Willow Springs  ;)

Great planning so far!! Thanks for jumping in  :)

I was just looking at the race dates. If the SoCal guys wanna route through there and get a little track time, that'd be sick! It's almost tempting to try get down there myself for that but I think I might be biting off more than I can chew.

Even if anyone could get there in time, I doubt they would modify the race schedule to allow track time. There would probably be a better chance after the race..

I was dreaming of going further, but for now I will only commit to JT.
FYI: Taking back roads from SD to JT, via Ramona, Palm Desert, Yucca Valley, is about 180 miles. From JT to Rosamond is about 150 miles, again taking back roads. For anyone coming from Riverside, I would recommend hwy 18 up through Big Bear to Lucerne Valley, where the 18 meets up with the 247 from JT. Getting from either Kingman or San Diego to Rosamond should be a full days ride, IMHO.

MrBreeze, FatMatt, Ofreen, etc. I'm down for the haul from the Bay Area to Fernley. As luck would have it, I have a meeting in Gerlach (90 miles north of Fernley) 5/7-8. If it's that close, one of my coworkers might be into riding along. Looks like the projected schedule lines up to make that work. If it happens earlier, I have friends in Fernley, and in Reno. I've only driven the slab out there, but FatMatt had picked out a route that was more better. What say ye, FatMatt?

Jay has asked that we keep him informed so he can make necessary plans.

"This sounds very interesting. Can you e-mail me complete info?  jay@aperaceparts.com" which I did and his response "This soundfs like a lot of fun. I am sure the track would allow an on track cruise . Lety me have a specific date as soon as you can".

I like the meeting in Joshua Tree idea. Seem like anyone from the LA area might want to meet us there too.

I agree with Scottly. I think riding from SD to JT, then to Santa Maria to SLO would be overwhelming. I would much rather spread this out and enjoy ourselves. I might even be willing to take a vacation day to do this.

I have a trailer that could take two bikes in SD, so that's available.

Im planning on joining from San Diego. I will also have limited time, so i may trailer up to Riverside and just leave my truck and the trailer there. Riding a 350f from SD to riverside alone up the 15 and THEN doing a 5 hour ride sounds less than appealing.

Odiewan,

That was intended for all you lucky guys on Team CA that might want to consider a great opportunity  ;) I thought a visit to APE and a lap around Willow Springs race track might be a very memorable event to include in our little ride  ;D Big Jay is a gracious host and sponsor.
