That definitely sounds good, except there is a possibility that Odie and I would trailer our bikes up the 15 to JT, as it is all highway driving, then do the fun stuff on the bikes from there. The drive from here to JT, or even out to the coast isn't really that exciting. The fun cruising really begins at the 101 in Santa Monica.

for the SD guys whats the plan after getting to SLO?
turning around riding back? setting up a SAG vehicle of somekind?

My sister is a freshman at Cal Poly SLO and one of my best buddies lives there, so I'll likely be spending a day or two hangin in town there before riding back down. That was really the reason I'm stopping there in the first place. Originally, I was the only one doing this leg, and it was as far north as I could travel. Now we've hot a whole gang pulled together. Should be a great leg!

OneWheel, so are you going to just ride all the way back home after visiting with your sis?

I will have to ride back to JT if we trailer up unless I get someone to drive my car+trailer to SLO or some point in between.

Any ideas? I have a nice Audi that is more than powerful enough to tow two bikes.

If we trailer it to JT and OWD does stick around in SLO for a few days and rides all the way home, I can probably give someone else a ride back down to SD proper. BTW, for you SD folk's info, I live in North Park. If it does work out as above, I would give someone a ride home where ever they are in SD county or on route.

There are some logistics to figure out, but it's going to be fun!!!!

We could drop a car at some point in between to cut down time or ever drop it all the way in SLO and double back...

I have a 4 door Tundra that will pull whatever and fit 4-5 guys comfortably.
Could even drop a car in SLO and just rent a uhaul trailer to get back to JT
I rented one when my bike needed a haul and it was like 25 bucks for the day.

Ill admit im not overly excited for the ride from Jtree to the 101. Id rather start on the coast

Ok, there's obviously some ugly riding that has to be done by our leg. Let's get creative and try to avoid highways as much as possible. Is this route nuts? It takes about 7 hours longer but you avoid highways. This was just the Google Maps "avoid highways" option. I'm sure we'll jump on the occasional freeway or two. That route over the mountains to Palm Springs is a sweet ass road.

It's your ride and I know I'm putting my nose in where it doesn't belong, but what if you took the car & trailer all the way to SLO as a chase vehicle? That way you have plenty of options for the flip flop and have rescue capability close at hand? Sure, at least one rider will have a windshield between them and the world, but it seems to me a good option if you aren't going to ride all the way.

I dunno, just tossing out ideas. We're all in this together so we will have to compromise based on equipment limitations, time restrictions, etc. Let's just keep the ideas flowing and eventually we'll hit something that works for everyone.

I think that in the interest of time and the fact there is no real way to shorted the ride form JT to SLO without turning this into a slab fest that we trailer all the bikes we can to JT and then ride to SLO. If we can find someone to drive, I say OldSchool_IsCool has a great idea. I am perfectly willing to volunteer my car and trailer. If we want to use socalenduro's Tundra and my trailer, that's fine, too.
socalenduro: can I assume your Tundra has a trailer hitch?

The more I think about this, the more I realize that this is a lot of miles on old bikes. Riding exhausted will raise our risk for accidents. If at all possible, I think we should have a chase vehicle with a trailer. We can have some tools, spare parts, ext in the car/truck and the trailer if we have a breakdown. We are going to be dead tired when we get to SLO. The other benefit of the chase vehicle is a place to stash our gear with out strapping it on our bikes.

I like both OWD's routes, though I think the first one is a reasonable compromise between cool road to ride and making reasonable time. One think I have noticed on some really long rides is that you get mentally tired after too much twisties. As much as we generally abhor the super slap, sometimes it's good to make some time and give our brains a rest.

I really don't know about a stop at Willow Springs, that would add almost a full day to the journey. Up to the group of course, but that doesn't excite me much.

Can we get a sound off of who will be participating from SD, where you live, and the distance/days they'd like to travel? This is who I think we've got so far.

Odiewan- North Park
OneWheel- Encinitas, 4 days on the road. One to JT and a bit beyond. One to SLO. One day hangin' with the sis. One full day on the slab back south (hopefully comfortably and safely in a truck).
SoCalEnduro- Pacific Beach?
Mooshie- Ventura
SanDogDewey- Escondido
mycb750k6- San Juan Capistrano
joe29- Los Angeles?

So myself, Odie, Dewey, and SoCal in the tundra w/ a trailer to JT on day 1, then 3 of the 4 on the bikes to meet Mooshie, MyCB750 and Joe. Find somewhere to crash between JT and SLO, maybe somewhere outside of Santa Clarita. Then continue up to SLO on day 2. Who is continuing North from there? It'd be great if we could hang in SLO and the surrounding area for at least a day, then trailer back all the bikes together from there on the 4th day or even late in the day on the 3rd day. I would REALLY like to avoid riding solo on the 405 back to SD.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Arguments?

Good work Onewheel, thanks for coordinating! I agree on the Willow Springs thing. It'd be a great photo op for Godzilla and the rally but you guys are already biting off a pretty big chunk. You MIGHT make this your destination for the first night but that puts y'all further from the coast for the next day.
