Bay Area riders, y'all should come check out the bike show at the Santa Clara fairgrounds on March 26. I'll be there promoting the ride. It'd be a great chance to meet face to face and discuss ride coordination or at least to drink some beer and look at motorcycles! 8)

Oops. I meant TwoTired. Sorry Mr Breeze, you get the sofa.

Thanks for the generous offer, Gemini.  Beds sure work better than sofas or floors for my back recuperation.
Hard to judge if Oakland is too far from Milpitas for a night's sleep, though.   Seems I could last the extra 40 minutes.  But, you never know when a nerve pinch will become intolerable.  I've done no long distance riding since the disk bulge.  So, it's going to be an adventure for me. (Hopefully fun!)

Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

Check this out.

4/24 - Climbingaz, RAFster122s - Duncan to Phoenix/Prescott
4/25 - Scottly - Phoenix/Prescott to Kingman (Kayjohn and company meet at Seligman)
4/26 - Scottly and Ksslr - Kingman to J.T.
4/27 - Onewheeldrive, Odiewan, mycb750k6, joe29, socalenduro, scondon - Encinatas to SLO with hand-off in J.T
4/28 - Fatmatt, scondon - SLO to San Francisco Bay Area(Grumpy, Domer, Geminimotors, Mr.Breeze, Stueve, TPColgett jumping in at Santa Cruz or Woodside or somewhere)
4/29 - Fatmatt, Grumpy, Domer, Geminimotors, Mr.Breeze, Scondon, Stueve, TPColgett - San Francisco to Nevada
4/30 - Ofreen - Fernly, NV to Baker, NV
5/1   - Jerry - Baker, NV to points east

As long as the other teams stay on schedule, I'd say this probably pretty accurate. I'd still allow for the possibility of one more day in AZ but I think those guys have it pretty well nailed down. Also, probably a pretty good chance of one more day in SoCal. So 4/28,29,or 30 for the Bay Area. I'll update as plans become more concrete.

As far as I know there are no plans to go to A.P.E. yet. We've got pretty firm commitments for Kingman to Joshua Tree, not to Rosamond.
Anyone on the SoCal end have anything to add?

Awesome! If they can get us a little track time, that's just gravy!

BTW, I am down with meeting in JT and riding to SLO. I have a trailer that can be used for whatever.

If there is enough motos going to JT, I might drive up with the trailer. If so, I have a space for another body and bike.
Odiewan,

That was intended for all you lucky guys on Team CA that might want to consider a great opportunity  ;) I thought a visit to APE and a lap around Willow Springs race track might be a very memorable event to include in our little ride  ;D Big Jay is a gracious host and sponsor.

Just thought I'd mention, the Tri-Tip Steak sandwich at Firestone Grille is fabulous and you gotta try it while staying in San Luis Obispo (SLO). Or sink your teeth into a tender Tri-Tip steak down the street at McClintock's Saloon.  Both are very very good and worth trying if you've never had Tri-Tip Steak.  It's a central California delicacy in my opinion.

BTW, a ride up to the Irish Hills in the SLO area presents a beautiful view and nice ride...depends on if you want to see sunset over the ocean from afar or by water's edge.
The farmer's market on the way to Avra Beach has great local fruits and veggies and the local apples are tasty...just the wrong time of season for them to be fresh I think.

Small world! I grew up in Santa Maria, fed on oak grilled Tri-Tip. When I moved to SLO in the late '70s, they hadn't quite figured it out. When I moved to Sunnyvale in '80, they had never heard of the stuff. Ten years later, my brother was able to get Tri-Tip in Alaska. :o

HEY!

Does anyone have any contacts at Laguna Seca Raceway??

We'll be going right past it. It would be VERY cool if we could get IT to take a lap!!!!

Maybe someone at Motorcycle Classics Mag?

Anyone??

I'll post this in the parent thread so all teams can see this, too.

Hey Chris, if you could get Godzilla from Tempe to Humboldt by noon on 4-25, it would be a great help!!! If you would like to ride with me to Ashfork, or beyond, that would be even better! :D

Hello everyone.  I ride a CB550 (had it modified as a cafe racer) and I would love to join this ride.  Are you passing by or through Ventura/Santa Barbara?  If so I would like to join the pack on the way to SLO and beyond...Please let me know.

You know it!  That's great that we picked up another rider!  We should be passing through that area close enough for you to hook up around the end of April.  Pay attention to the Rally updates as we get closer we should have the dates nailed down.

Welcome to the forums, as well as the relay!!! If the route takes 166 to Santa Maria, you could take 33 to 166, if you're coming from Ventura.

Riders, please post your logs here:

http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=85509.0

Be as detailed or brief as you like, but please share any eventful moments of your ride, interesting people you may have met, what you liked the most, etc. Don't need lots of pictures, maybe one of the handoff or maybe a group shot of the riders you were with for however far you were able to ride. You don't necessarily have to be the one that carried the baton, but you do have to have already ridden in order to post there.

Please reserve that thread for RIDER LOGS ONLY. Comments to the riders logs there would stretch that thread out to be quite large long before the relay nears completion. By keeping that thread limited to RIDER LOGS ONLY should help improve readability for many of our forum members. I have renamed the "Godzilla Sightings in Daytona!" to "Godzilla Sightings in Daytona AND BEYOND". Please continue to use that thread for posting comments, quick updates, creative pictures of Godzilla, expanding upon the unfolding story of Godzilla's adventures, (almost) anything goes in that thread. Please reserve the Rider Log thread for factual reports and rider's insights only. Our forum moderator will be deleting comments from the Rider Log thread to help promote it's linear progression as our Relay moves forward.

Enjoy the ride guys, Godzilla's comin your way!
TAMTF...

Just found this thread from the VJMC site. Is Kingman, AZ to Rosamond, CA leg the closest this ride is coming to SoCal? Would like to join up if you're coming further south near San Diego.

Yo SanDog.  A group of us, probably 4 or 5 riders, are riding north from San Diego to Joshua tree to meet the Relay up there.  Although Godzilla will not be traveling through SD, our leg will start down here just to save the AZ crew the trouble of coming this far south.  We will then continue north up to San Luis Obispo before continuing on up the coast. Pay attention to this thread for the specifics, but it's great to see the momentum growing!

Do you still have that cherry 750?  All the San Diego riders should coordinate a weekend ride in the near future to get acquainted!

Welcome to the Relay! As OWD said, we're not going south of Rosamond, Ventura since doing so would force us to go through LA. Not a desirable situation.

I agree, we need to have a CB ride soon. We might even put something together with the crew that rides out of Trophy Motorcycles.

OneWheel,

I still have the '77 CB750. What is the route from Kingman to San Luis Obispo? Are they coming across I-40 or further south? Where are you meeting up in Joshua Tree?

There are a couple of google map tentative routes on page 7 and 8 of this thread.  Post #200 particularly has the route we were thinking of taking from SD.  Ultimately, we are going to set the route based on how much time we want to spend on the road, what days we will be traveling, how much freeway time we want to endure or avoid.  The hand off points really are the only things that are not so tentative, and even those could change as the Relay gets closer.

If the Kingman group leaves on schedule the morning of 26 April and rides to Joshua Tree that's approx 208 miles. Is the CA group planning on picking up the ride in Joshua tree about noonish 26 April and getting out to the coast by the evening of 26 April. Then have all day 27 April to ride up the coast to SLO? That would shorten up the JT-SLO leg.

I'd be willing to join up on the ride to JT on the morning of the 26th, meet up with the Kingman group and head west to the coast. At that point I'd probably head back south and let the rest of the group head on up to SLO.
