And how many will be coming from SF bay area to Reno?
While we're at it....whos going past SLO headin' north to SF and beyond? Now is probably a good time to nail down some plans from everyone doing Calif. Personally.......my idea is to jump on in Farmington .............hyway 4 approx. 20 miles east of Stockton. Take 4 east to Angels Camp.....49 north to Jackson.....88 northeast to Reno/Fernley to hand off to Ofreen (Greg) who I believe is ridin' solo. I was planning on getting a cheap motel somewhere in the Reno area and meet Greg the next morning in Fernley and then from there....head back home. I don't know who or how many are coming from the bay area and where they may wanna spend the night. I don't know how you want to get from the Bay Area to Farmington. This route I have proposed purty much keeps us off of the super slab for most of the ride.

Hooray for staying off the freeway as much as possible. I plan on riding south from Oakland (maybe the night before) and meeting up somewhere between Santa Cruz and Alices. FatMatt had a plan as well. I can commit to Santa Cruz-ish thru the Bay Area and some distance East. Much as I'd love to, I can't go whole hog to Fernley unless we're delayed into the first week of May. I need to be there 5/7 and two trips out there is no bueno for me right now. If timing works for me to ride to Fernley, I'd probably need to overnight in Reno, too. The high desert sunrises cant be beat.
Is there a handoff in SLO, or is someone from SoCal making the haul up to the Bay?

Bad news folks; shenanigans got injured in a confrontation with a cinder-block wall. It doesn't look like he will be able to get Godzilla up to me from PHX. From the pics, I'm just thankful that he can post at all... :o

Oh no!  I had seen that he wrecked, but didn't think about the effect on the relay.  There's no one else in PHX participating in the relay?!

No, Rafster122 and I are running Godzilla from the NM border in Duncan back to Phoenix.  Looks like we might have to venture north a bit.  I was initally hesitant to do more riding than absolutely necessary, but I've now put 300 relatively trouble-free miles on my bike since getting it together.  So I should be ok.  For me the big "IF" is when I'll get Godzilla from the NM guy(s).  If things get delayed and I'm expected to ride during the week, it will get difficult with work.

Climbing,

Glad to hear you bike is giving you much joy!  Be sure to do a nut & bolt check soon though.  I neglected to do that with my 750 and had a caliper bolt back itself out and into the spokes!  Took out about a quarter of the spoke, ripping one right out of the rim ruining that too!
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

Scottly,  Where would we meet if we/I headed North from Phoenix area?

As long as my bike holds up I could do a longer day back home Monday.
Looks like I'll have about 600 miles in the saddle on the round trip without a detour up to the Humboldt area.
I've never been to Prescott (yet) what's another 200 on the trip???  One long ride home on the freeway...

scottly.

we're doing some milage and fuel cost figuring.
Our first planed section from Crookton rd to Parker on four (HARDTAIL)choppers would be 584.0 combined and 327.0 for the round trip of the suport vehicle.

If we add from parker to J.T. it would be 1085.0 and 622.0

fuel cost is our bigest hurdle. and our bigest concern is you riding from Parker to J.T. solo. There's nothing out their but desert and lizards.

LIZARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well Godzilla might like that. would be hard to keep him on task if any females are running around.

That's a 124 mile run and from the google satilite map it looks like Vidal Junction might be your last chance gas and food stop until J.T.

k.

David, shenanigans may not be out of the relay, after all. In any case, I might be able to handle a blitz down I-17 to Black Canyon City?
Kay, I would much rather deal with lizards than texting SUV drivers on the interstates! ;)
I should be able to make it from Parker to JT on 2/3 of a tank, so no fears of running out, but yeah, I understand about the cost of fuel, especially for the support vehicle. If you guys could indeed get to Parker, I could run Godzilla to JT, do a Pony Express hand-off, and get back to Parker by late afternoon. Then we could haul the bikes back to Kingman?

It pains me to say it but I am going to have to call out of the relay. I will probably be just out of surgery a couple days before.  :(

Chris,

Heal well. Sorry about your misfortune and your mistiming  ;) I was able to put off my non-emergency shoulder surgery until after the Relay comes through my area but your situation dictates another approach. Take care and you WILL be in for 2012!

im still in for the ride from alices to sf... maybe a little beyond. someone is gonna have to call/text/email/send a homing pigeon and let me know a time frame to be at alices. especially since i'm gonna drop what ever is going on at work and scramble... or call in sick, which ever fits the bill... Matt, your making the whole run right (from SLO)? maybe i can make you my go to guy? not trying to volunteer ya, just pullin a name out of the pile!

Its starting to look like I'm the only one going to Reno/Fernley to get the lizard to Greg. I will probably have some people to make the run with but I really wanted to ride with other SOHC's............anybody?? If not.....who will bring him to me in the Modesto area?? Lemme know......time is getting tight.

Likewise, what is the info on the Rosamond ride?  Is everything still on track to be in Rosamond (from JT) on 4/26 and ride Willows on 4/27 and then off to SLO?  I am just wondering the dates so I can arrange my work schedule.  If I need to get in touch with specific people (should someone know) please tell me the names and I will PM them.  Thanks

Well,  I'm another unfortunate drop out. I was pushing it to get done and have my CB550K0 back on the road from the mid-80s and some drug reactions and a virus has me too far behind schedule to make it now. Work's too busy and I don't have vacation time to take to finish it before next weekend, much less trust if for 600 miles of riding by the time I would hook up in Duncan and get back from Phoenix area...

I'm disappointed but I'll have to pull the plug rather than have false hope on getting everything assembled & sorted out this week.

Sorry.

Shawn, the offer to follow from Duncan is still open.

Domer, I'm still down for SLO on up. I'll keep ya posted on arrival times. If you can do it, I highly suggest joining up as far south as Santa Cruz. I'm planning on taking the 9 up to Bear Creek Rd. then Skyline to Alices, 84 to the 1 and then on up through. If time and sore butts permit maybe we can throw in a few more twisties but we'll see.

OK so....

You're planning this route

Potential gas, pee stops in Boulder Creek, 9 & Skyline, Alices, San Gregorio, HMB, Pacifica...

What' s the route up from SLO to SC?
1 is still part of the Pacific...
