Hey Andy and everyone?  What time can you all be in Brattleboro on friday the 23rd?   How about the 24th?  I want a census of who is showing up for the Vermont to NH ride.   I will be leaving on the 24th (weather permitting) and heading to Mt. Washington via central Vermont.  The mountain climb will happen either friday or saturday depending when which day we I leave.  Get in touch if you want to meet and ride with the relay and we can make this happen.  PM me again if you already have sent me info.  IF you are from Vermont and want to be a part of this thing, GET IN TOUCH!

Ok there has been a flurry of dates thrown around and even I am getting confused!!!

So as I understand it....

11th/12th June - Rhinebeck, NY - official handoff from NY crew  - photos, naked girls (thanks Bobby!), Godzilla!

Sunday 12th June - I hand  it very quickly over to the CT riders (Kevin;cb550fcafe) in Oxford, MA at around 12 - 1pm......who then have it for a week before giving it to Ken from RI on the 19th at Pomfret

Sunday 19th June - Ken from RI -takes Godzilla away to sunny Newport for more sun, sand and more naked girls no doubt.

Saturday 25th  - Ken brings it up to Boston and we ride onto Brattleboro, VT to meet up with Cupcake. Ride time is about 2.5 -3 hrs. Ken what time can you be in Boston on the Saturday?? (if you cant make it Ill meet you earlier in the week and pick up Godzilla). Lets say arrive in Brattleboro for lunchtime (12 pm)....at this point all depends on you Cupcake...either we ride up with you (I will) to NH or.......depends on you....

Saturday 25th  -ride to North Conway is about 4 hours by back roads. Up/down Mt Washington  expect another 1 hr. So camping around North Conway area looks best bet, no?

Sunday 26th? rain date for Mt Washington? Still gets to Maine this day? Boston/RI riders go home.

Saturday 2nd - ride from Maine (73Nancy) to Canadian border!! An epic ride where anything can happen - make sure your machine is running good! Little cell phone coverage here   - meet Operator (Jason) and camp at his place if we all go across the border....

Sunday 3rd June  - the long trek home -epic!!

Any comments on this?? Cupcake - you seem to have the most time off so feel free to make changes...just make sure you get your dates right!

Sounds like you are hitting up the sites!  This northeast run is going to be hard to beat. NYC has some big shoes to follow, but the regions after Team Mid-Atlantic will have it even harder!!!

Lets get some great photos and show them what New England is all about! Start planning!

Sounds great guys.  I won't be riding as I'm still rebuilding my bikes and they won't be anywhere near ready by Rhinebeck.  I will be at Rhinebeck though and hope you guys stop by our table to say hi!  We'll be selling some bike prints and t-shirts as well as some leftover random Honda parts.  Look for the green VW Westfalia.

Hey, fellow New England SOHC'ers.  I just saw this thread.  Been a member a long time but only recently started looking at the forums again as I'm putting a lot of work back into the bike. (750K6.)  I'll be out of town during the 25th, but I totally second the Rt 100 suggestion!  I live right on 100 & 100B, close to Rt 17, and it's beautiful.  Looks like you've planned around it, so have fun, but I wanted to pipe up and say hello.  Any Vermonters out there feel free to PM.

I'd say that google maps is fairly accurate.  I have never done this route so I have no actual idea how long it will take.  If you can keep up with a bunch of middle aged guys riding old bikes that they put together with used parts, then I suggest you join us.  We will not chastise you for falling behind, quitting, sleeping at a Holiday Inn running out of gas or any other thing that might suggest you have a higher need for comfort than a drunk teenager.  (I've seen them pass out in trees before)  Whining must be allowed so long as it is based in reality but all in good fun.  ie:  "My butt hurts"  or "My cafe seat really chafes my inner thighs." or maybe even "I'm sick of these old bikes!  Screw it!  I'm going to buy a Ultra-wide-electra-road-fat-glide when I get home" 

But really, the more the merrier here as far as I am concerned.  The truth is that I am not looking forward to the discomfort of riding my bike for that long but I am doing it anyway.  This relay is about the SOHC Honda and we are all representing this forum as well as these old motorcycles. (so let's get really drunk, trash some hotel rooms and try to get arrested  )  These bikes are only going to get more and more scarce as "collectors" have started to buy them and drive the prices up.  Having a huge (by New England standards) convoy of baby elephants is something our kids may never see again. I was telling someone about this ride and he asked if it was for the Guiness book.  I hadn't even thought of it but it probably could be a record of some sort.  Time will tell what this is and I am proud to be part of it none the less.   So please, take a couple of Advil and join us for whatever blipp in history we create.  I will have an intra-venous ibuprofen drip going the whole time.   I'll hang the IV bag from my sissy bar.

Am I the only under 40 New Englander that is taking part of this? lol. my bike is almost twice as old as I am and somehow Im entrusting it to get me all the way to upstate NY and back...God help us all.

My logic around riding or driving something that is old and having the willies about it this:  If I think that I'll actually get to change the oil in the machine again, it's mechanically serviceable for at least 3k miles.  If I don't think it'll make the next oil change, then I'll take something else.  Short trips locally add up to one long trip right?  We just bring the anxiety with us on the long ones.

Lol you guys are all worried about nothing As long as your bike is mechanically sound it will get you there. Done plenty of 300+ mile days in New England and plenty of 500+ mile days going across country on the same bike - CB750K4. Bought it in 2001 and 45,000 miles later still going strong. Old or new everything can break - its how you deal with it that matters.

Ride from Brattleboro, VT to North Conway, NH will take between 5 -6 hours going via back roads, including fuel stops, pit stops, lunch, photos etc etc. Very good ride though!

I laughed at this quote, you make it sound like you're going to ride off the end of the earth. It's only Canada!!! lol

Can't wait to finally meet some more forum members. As for the border crossing, apparently you can cross 3 times without a passport. I have talked to two coworkers who have crossed (from the Canadian side) using their birth certificate and military ID's.  Heads up on cell phone coverage, if you have Rogers, you are screwed. If you use Telus or Bell, you should be good to go.

Cell phone coverage for the US side is usually Verizon or ATT and it may not be that great when surrounded by mountains in the middle of nowhere. This was our experience last year coming back from Montreal via the White Mountain route. Just sayin - get those machines running well....and no one can do anything about punctures or deer or moose!! Anything can happen!!!!
