Yes! Everyone who wants to go along on the ride out of Brattleboro please don't hesitate to show up.PM me and Ill send you my number.  You are all invited.  I only ask that you have an operable charging system, and a tire patch kit, spending money, and an accurate idea how far you can go on a tank of gas.  ;D  Judging from the weather so far this year, it will be cool or cold and hopefully not wet.
The actual depart time will be determined this week but I am hoping to be kickstands up at 11:00.  Andy and Godzilla are coming from Boston that morning but he is trying to get here early.  As far as the terminus point for the days ride goes, we are working towards a solution that will be nearby to allow the Maine contingent to meet up with us.  73Nancy will be receiving the Godzilla on sunday and holding it until the big ride to Canada.

Still looking for your thoughts on accommodations.  I'm up for camping but I'm old enough to not have to prove that I'm a manly-man by sleeping in the rain.  I like a mattress and warm water.

Evans Notch is a great ride especially when combined with Hurricane Mountain Road - did this last year and camped at the Evans Notch State park campground:

Some good back country roads

Another alternative is to ride up to Norther VT (Middleton/Stowe) on the Saturday. Then on Sunday ride over to North Conway/Fryeburg for the Maine Handoff. Would make an interesting ride. Get pics of Godzilla at Ben and Jerrys, Maple Houses in Montpelier, etc...

Seems that accommodation is the limiting factor. However I am fine with camping so Ill leave it to you guys to sort out your accommodation needs.  Ill go anywhere.

Ken! (BigK0) -good to hear you are still in the running and looking forward to seeing you on Saturday 25th June. What time can you be in Boston on the 25th or is it easier to meet enroute to Brattleboro, VT?? Cupcake is looking for an late morning start from Brattelboro. Let me know what you were thinking.

Lets hope the weather is good!!!

cheers
Andy

andy750: Glad you agree! I've run the idea past a couple people and we all keep coming up with Evan's Notch. Hurricane Mountain might not be for everyone (honestly, I won't take a bike down that road, but I've also seen some really messed up bike accidents there... half of it is in my coverage area) but it's definitely on the way. This is all in my back yard, actually. Hurricane Mountain is half a mile from me, Evan's Notch is about 15 minutes.

As for accommodations, like I said, the chains in North Conway, or maybe Jockey Cap in Fryeburg are all good. But once again, just call ahead for Jockey Cap. It's really not bad at all, and though I've never been inside the rooms, I haven't heard any complaints. It's not like it used to be. There really aren't many other places in the area to stay, besides bed & breakfasts and fancy hotels. If anyone wants to spend $119 for a night, the White Mountain Hotel is ridiculously awesome. That's probably where all the racers would be staying, maybe you could punch Travis Pastrana in the nose. There's tons of camping around, like Evans' Notch like andy said, or one of the eight billion places on the Kank.

I understand what you are saying about Hurricane Mountain Road but for me I had a great time riding this last year (several times since it was so good and we were camping at Evans Notch). I was riding the VStrom 2-up and my g/f was laughing on the back as it was so much fun. We were lucky though we encountered no other traffic on the road.

If we do this road as part of the ride Id definitely not ride it as a group but rather staggered starts as you dont want to be bunched up on this road. It is fine as long as you concentrate and ride at your own speed.

Id really like to ride this on my K2 once I get some decent suspension.

cheers

Yeah, definitely. It's not too insane or anything, just gotta be real careful. Staggered is a good idea.. try taking a Chevy 2500HD down that road... and then meeting another truck. Even in a straight away, both of you have to get off the road and carefully skirt around each other. It's ridiculous.

But try going down that road nice and quietly and all of the sudden SSSSSSSKKREEEEECCHHH as some #$%* in a truck drifts around the corner. I had to pull the Mazda all the way off the road for that one, and he still almost clipped me. If there was enough space on that road to even turn around I would have chased him down to get his plates and maybe hit him across the face with a tire iron...

Does anyone know what's up with UnCrash? I don't think I ever posted this; I'm the one who bought his K6!

UnCrash is still around busy as usual. So you are the one who bought his K6! Then we are kind of CB750-related as that K6 belonged to an old forum member in Maine...and I bought his K2 waaaaay long time ago from a friend of his (but originally he had it).

Small world ;)

Ill be leaving from Roslindale, MA and heading for Rt 2/119 via Rt 9. If there is interest can arrange a meeting spot along the way.

Time at the moment is unknown as its dependent on BigK0 getting to Boston from Newport, RI (unless he meets us along the route). So basically waiting for Ken (BigKO) to get back to us....

I'm starting to see a different plan here.  It is a departure from the original but it is making more sense since Washington is closed and Conway is booked.
I just got off the phone with my mother in law who lives in Tunbridge Vt.  They have 20 acres in the middle of god's country and she is more than willing to host a group of campers on her land that saturday night. I can talk her into a campfire and beer but we're buying.  We might even pick up a few extra riders for Sunday.  I'm thinking that we can ride more of Vermont on the 25th IE: Lake Champlain and all points in between here and there, then ride over to New Hampshire on the Kancamangus Sunday morning for a day of riding there on Evans Notch and the Hurricane road.  We can make the handoff in the same place to the same agent.

This way, the state Vermont will actually get ridden(rather than just the Connecticut valley) and it will be good representation of the state.  This isn't that drastic of a change and I think that most people will get to ride with us. Those folks over in New Hampshire don't have to get up so early in the morning either.

I just got off the phone with Andy750.  He's ok with this and so it is so.  I am also going to conjure up a bad weather plan that will terminate at an area with motels available.  I'll work up a route map later.

I'd love to be kickstands up a 11:00 am from Brattleboro.  Can that be done?  We have a long ride ahead of us.

Andy - Cupcake and others regarding the 25th.  Best case scenario gets me from Newport RI to Brattleboro Vt in 3-3 1/2 hours.  So 11:00 may not be an accurate eta for me.  Cupcake, could you tell me how many miles and hours of riding we are going to be doing from Brattleboro to points east in NH please? Thanks.  Andy, maybe it would conserve some time if I meet you on the way to Vt?  Guys I will work on leaving earlier I guess if 11:00am is the time...I not really an 'early' morning person but this is, after all, the sohc relay!  My vote is for camping unless there is inclement weather.  Can't wait!!

This is going to be an absolute torture/hell ride.  It will test your stamina, strength, chutzpah, cojonés, were-with-all, and pain threshold in your groin.  Most of all, it will be the days between Friday and Monday.  It will be a story that your grandkids will tell their grandkids.  This ride will be spoken of around campfires, water-coolers, job-sites, and brothels for generations to come and it shall be written about in volumes that will be launched into space as a time capsule for the entire universe to discover.  Of the worlds languages that are close to being extinct because of modern society, all will take time to speak of this ride and make up new words to describe it.
Miles and hours mean nothing here.  It will be all the miles and all the hours needed to make this a great expedition. It will be no more and no less.  I hope this answers your questions and god bless you son for giving of yourself to this great journey.

Really, if I had to guess, I'm looking at about 250+ or - the first day and maybe the same the next.  I'm not sure to be honest and the second day is totally up to who ever wants to do it.  We will camp near Tunbridge, Vt. in good weather or TBD in bad.  If you feel the need to not go for it on Sunday, Tunbridge is 1 hr 15min from Brattleboro.  That puts you out at 4.5 hours from Newport where we camp.  We won't make fun of your for not joining us but we will miss you.

This is the first day:  Burlington is optional and we can just eat in Montpelier.  Rt 17 is supposed to be an epic road though so that's why I added it in.

This is Sunday before we meet up with the Mainers and ride their roads:

  http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=VT-110+S&daddr=Brook+Rd+to:NH-116+E%2FBenton+Rd+to:Main+St&hl=en&geocode=FWKFnQIdtbyt-w%3BFS5RoAIdwsqx-w%3BFUOPoAIdv6G1-w%3BFaGRnwIdB9XE-w&mra=mi&mrsp=3&sz=12&sll=43.979722,-71.05854&sspn=0.133901,0.298004&ie=UTF8&z=12

That's when you will have to make the decision to go home or stay for a long ride with the Mainers.  Sunday could be a short day or a long one.  It's all up to you.  Per google maps, it is 208 miles from Fryeburg to Newport and 220+- from Tunbridge to Newport.  That's 4+ hours easily and it's all highway.  It's up to you BIGKO how long you want to ride.  The key here is to have fun and not hate it.  That is unless it rains.  Then it's going to suck.

You guys can do 250 miles in one day easy! If you factor in 10 hours at a leisurely pace that's 25mph. Hope you don't have to ride that slow  ;) Of course you'll need to stop once for gas and food. Now if you were to average 50mph that means you have half that day to goof off and rest yer sore asses  :D Now if you were riding like I do you'd get that done in under 4 hours and start drinkin' that much sooner.  ;D  8) With that kind of mileage you guys can cruise easily and really enjoy yourselves and not be worn out at the end of the day. Have fun!
