I couldn't find the dates of the Indiana, Ohio and Pa trip.  I would definitely be interested. Could you point me in the right direction before I confirm.
Thanks!

People riding the tour can start to think of places to ride through on our route, and let's call them rally points to meet at along the way. Where riders can join up. I'm sure there will be some beautiful scenery and fun roads. A lot of cell phone numbers will be exchanged but with some planning this can be great. I'm working on a local newspaper article too.

For the St. Louis to Chicago leg I'm thinking of following some of old Route 66, A stop in Springfield, Peoria and through a couple of state parks etc. A couple of stops at some Honda shops too. Any ideas? Maybe the Chicago riders can think of a good rally point up their direction. I was wondering about Joliet at the race track? Or would you guys like to go into the city?

Hate city riding too, but I'm spoiled, I'm extremely rural. Looks good, I would probably carry over a ways into PA, maybe 100 miles or so before I head North for home.

I'm planning on being available for the western Pa to Maryland part of the ride, as soon as a date and place for the Ohio/Pa hand off is determined.

I'm guessing the KC to STL route is to be announced? (not to push the point
or anything, just curious on status)

The plan for the ride is for the local riders to select their own route given the time frame posted. I am hoping everyone can find each other from the list posted here to discuss and plan their ride. That way we can determine the stops and meeting points to maximize the fun and enjoyment.

Feel free to post ideas here or you guys can PM each other and then post your plans.

I hope to ride along the MO leg but I'm not sure I can do the full 6 days posted for Missouri and Illinois. My brother and I may be the only riders so far for the St Louis through central Ill. toward Chicago leg. I'm planning a tentative route through Illinois, but may move it around to accomodate other riders. I'd like to get "it" to Chicago in two days to allow the third day for Chicago riders

Don and I haven't even come close to discussing it yet. We do have riders on either side of the border. Team Central Rockies will bring it to KC and we haven't done much mapping yet. I'm more concerned myself in dealing with the BIG picture of the Rally but will be glad to answer any questions. I do have tentative plans to ride US24 through most of Kansas, that is unless we get more KS riders (they are scarce) then we can change the routing.

I am just curious how these dates got picked out and why we would be making plans around them?  The first rider hasn't even left yet.

kck3 and others,

You have a good valid point. OldSchool/Bruce took some time to come up with a spread sheet of likely/possible dates splitting up time between regions etc. to see how such a ride may divide out and pan out. When he was done it came in within a few days based on a 6 month idea. This is NOT the ride plan. Some may go quicker, some may take longer. The ride plan will only be able to evolve once it nears each region but only after it sets sail. In the mean time we can put the proposed regionals rides together as far as routing goes and that's about it as far as I can see.

As this gets closer to getting off  the ground, do you think we will be able put together a map of the route? If so, it could be put on flyers, web sites, and even the ? back pack ? that riders would use to carry the stuff. also, riders could photo as many sites on their route that they want, but they MUST photo all the hand-offs. I think it would be best if both riders and bikes were in the photo along with the objects carried.

Hey, all. I'd be interested in joining in for the Ohio segment or possibly Indianapolis into Ohio depending on route and what rider needs you have. I'm in Cincinnati but could get up to Indy to start heading east, or I could join up in Dayton heading east (assuming you want to use I-70 through middle-Ohio). But if you head down to Cincy from Indy that would be even easier. Since I have roadworthy 550 and 750 I'll see if my son wants to one of them along with me. More the merrier.

How do we get updates as plans progress? Just check back here or is there any notifications set up?  This will be fun!!!

I live in Illinois, about 20 minutes from STL.  I may join in at some point, but I don't know my schedule for sure yet.

Reading back through the thread I see someone has mentioned Rt. 50 out on the western side of our relay region. Well here in Ohio I can attest to Rt. 50 being a really fine ride as compared to I-70 or any of the interstates, for that matter. Rt. 50 meanders through southern Ohio through beautiful countryside and some a state park area in eastern Ohio. I've driven it a couple times in the past 18 months and a lot of it has new pavement-- a plus. On 50, you exit Ohio crossing the Ohio River at Parkersburg, WV and it's a really nice route in WV. But if you want to hook up in PA, you can take an interstate (is it 77) N to pick up I-70 just before you head into a short bit of WV and then PA. Heck, Rt.50 goes all the way to Maryland and the Atlantic Ocean, I believe. It was one of the original cross country highways.

Welcome rippinsvt, I've been hoping for some downstate Illinois riders. And Popwood thanks for the route input, exactly what I was hoping for. Exact dates are going to be hard to predict at this point. Until I get a hand-off date I'm not going to be able to schedule and that may not be possible until the ride develops.

I'm in for Ohio, looking forward to it. The idea of Rally points along the ride would be awesome, that way, if some of us can't make the ride, we can meet up at a rally point/lunch/dinner thingy.

I'm up for anything within 50 miles of Chicago.  Consider me subscribed.  Fine idea.

Yeah, rally points, good idea. Such stops would enlarge the "social" aspect of this event and would be great for getting know other Forum members and SOHC owners. Seems to me this whole ride should not be so much about how fast the ride cover miles but what gets done along with way.

Welcome, the master list is on reply #42 in this thread. I agree us getting together is the main point, we should ride together in any case. Typing slow I had my throttle hand operated on today.

Throttle hand is better but not so good after moving a giant snow drift. It's hard to think about riding with this blizzard to deal with. But it's something to look forward to!

Leg 1 is bandying about some dates, and have a handoff day picked out. It's going to be fun to watch, hopefully the weather will be good and we can watch it develop.
