If Godzilla gets to Chicago on the 14th, I think I can get it down to Indy on the 15th.  If there are others in Chicago-land that want to be part of it and that changes the plans, that's fine.

I'll be coming from NW Indiana (not far from Chicago).  As a bonus round, I'd love to go West and meet with Don R and whoever else is traveling with him "100 or so miles" into Illinois and trace back East with them.  After that, stop at home for the night, and the next day head down to Indy.  Is there a snowball's chance we could get onto the brickyard?  Hrumph.. I just looked it up and time trials start on the 15th of May..... hmmm, that might be a good opportunity to take pictures in the infield.  One of the coolest things I did was run a 1/2 marathon where the brickyard part of the course.

I say all this with the cases split on my K6 but a tentative backup strategy (CB750s are like potato chips... how can you have just one? ;)).

To avoid downtown Chicago (as many of you seem to want to do), maybe we can get some shots at the lakefront in Indiana with the Chicago skyline as the backdrop?  If that interests anyone, I can scope out some locations... (shhh... I need to get a side cover picture for Joe and I'm thinking that'll be it).  Chicago, but not in Chicago :)

I'm loking for the volunteer to take the hand-off in Indy and proceed to Cincinatti.,,, anybody?

We were thinking one day Chicago to indy and one day Indy to cincinatti. I can't say for sure until I know if it can be done during the week.

I would like to firm up how many missouri riders there are, If it ended up just my brother and I, I'd banzai home a day sooner, like the 13th. Then to Chitown on the 14th So I can race at Joliet on the 15th. But if there are riders to ride with us We'll take time to enjoy it. It looks like my brother is bringing his suport car to mo. with his K4 on the stretcher. He may proceed the tour and visit some friends until I get there.

I and potentially several others will be here in Indy for the handoff and I think that the speedway is a great spot.  If Schmthaus is able to join, he should be the one to receive and carry Godzilla.....after all, wasn't he the one who nominated Godzilla in the first place?   :)

As to whether any Indy folks will be able to ride during the week, I don't know.  Once we know exactly what day for sure Godzilla will be arriving (because of possible weather delays, etc.), I know that more Indy folks will speak up and commit.

Question:  What is Godzilla's average layover?  Is he spending a night or two periodically?  Several days?  Ever a week?  If he were to arrive in Indy on a Sunday afternoon and only one or two folks were able to ride during the week to Cinci (or further), is it conceivable that he spend the week here until the next weekend when a large group could go?  Don't want to hold up the progress of the relay, but the whole idea of the relay is to get people together to ride and meet others.

Indy,

You are correct, the idea is to get people together, this isn't a Pony Express Reenactment!  It's also a good idea to build in a wee bit of pad time so that weather and other issues can be dealt with while not compromising fun, safety or the overall plan.

The worst case scenario, IMHO, is to advertize a handoff date, have persons downstream schedule vacation based on that date, then have to miss the relay completely because they can't change their time off if Godzilla doesn't hit his marks.

I don’t think we’re in danger of the PacNoWest riders having to deal with fall weather… YET!  Nor are we in much danger of clashing with the August bike events in Eastern Canada... YET!  Like I said, a wee bit of pad time, more so if it means dozens of riders can participate.

Do show Godzilla a "Good Time" while on hiatus!
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

Since the ride started down in Daytona, most of the riding has been done on the weekends. But I think the pace picks up some as IT heads west. Old School has been keeping a schedule -- I think it's the Godzilla Slept Here thread and I also posted it on the Motorycle Classics blog. It looks back to ride day 1 and projects out to the the handoff from Central Rockies team. Of course, all future dates posted are "subject to change."
Current Rides:
1975 cb550K
1975 cb750K
1967 Bridgestone 350GTR

Past Rides:
1988 400 Hawk
195? Schwinn Whizzer

+1 what Popwood said.

The most current schedule is attached to the very first post of this thread:

http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=86686.0

It's a PDF file, so you'll need Adobe Reader to open it.  I'm still working on a way to post it as HTML.

I can theoretically ride during the week if I've got a bit of notice.... as long as something doesn't come up at work (being in the service industry can create an unpredictable schedule).  However, having a weekend might make it easier to get more folks together.

Thanks for the link, I had mislaid the schedule myself.

We almost got another 750 running here, If we can get it on all four cylinders there may be another missouri rider. It is being built for a friend of my brother to ride. A 77K/f hybrid!

When are you guys rolling through the St Louis area. I would love to ride for a bit with everyone. Wouldn't be able to do more than a few hours probably, but I can recommend some beautiful winding roads if anyone wants suggestions.

Jerry, you cracked me up  F'nK,  if you only knew. This was a junkyard bike and should have been   left there for parts. Most of our trouble was trying to build it inexpensively. It just plain refused to co-operate.
Yes, the intended owner lives near Sedalia Mo and We are hoping we can get it done and he can ride along. I'm going to have to get a vinyl logo made for the side covers. F'nK. LOL.

Yeah, the only ones you DON"T spend money on end up in the junkyard. Ride 'em and leave 'em when they bite the dust.

Sedalia, I went to a rock festival there sometime around 1974 or 1975?? Ring a bell? 3 days of 103 degree heat and that's all I remember ( and for good reason  ;D ) Not to be confused with the one at Chuck Berry's place we also attened in Wentzville. They wouldn't let us in the night before so we laid claim to a spot close to the gate and when the sun went down we assaulted them with a barrage of bottle rockets  ;D Ah, the good old days  8)

From Wikipedia...

"In 1974, the Missouri State Fairgrounds was the site of the Ozark Music Festival, one of the largest but least remembered major music festivals of the 1970s. While the plan was for the pop/rock/bluegrass festival's selling about 50,000 tickets, an influx of about 184,000 fans and many rock bands strained the capacity of the fairgrounds and the city. Some estimates put the crowd count at 350,000 people. It counts as one of the largest music events (Rock Festivals) in history. The festival, hosted by Wolfman Jack, took out a full-page ad in Rolling Stone magazine and attracted people from outside the region."

I can go one of two routes with this. I can easily drive a chase vehicle if we have a large enough group for one or would love to join in from Indy to Cinci up to toledo. By then my bike should be in good shape for a long run but I am not 100% about that. It runs well atm but there are lots of little things with it.

Anyone?  Maybe just the date when you will hand Godzilla off to Team Mid-Atlantic?  There are a lot of downstream riders that would like to arrange their schedules.

Back up to reply #300. If It gets to Chicago on, or by the 14th we think Indy on the 15th The meet at the Speedway may be that day or the next morning not sure. Then one day indy to cincinatti. Then add up the OHIO days listed in reply #300 and you're there.
BUT, it might rain, someone might not get off work and someones bike might break down. No guarantees. I can't make definite promises except I will do everything in my power to get it to Chicago on the fourth day. Thats two states I'm taking responsibility for, two days each. It appears my brother and I are taking two to three 750's. I'll be riding one and one or two will be on the back-up vehicle for a good portion of the way. I hope that helps, it's the best I can do.

Official Godzilla theme song?  Its originally a Blue Oyster Cult song, so there's a history angle.  But I think Fu Manchu adds a nice heavy touch to this classic.

Fu Manchu - Godzilla
"Yeah, I'm hip about time. But I just gotta go."
