Ohio Hand Off Thoughts --
Given it looks like a mid-day Monday affair, I may or may not be able to participate, but will give it my best shot to be there. Nonetheless, here are some thoughts, which could include both options as going from one to the next is only 15 to 20 minutes tops:
-- Western Hills Honda. One of the early Honda dealerships in the US and still going strong and has a significant vintage parts business that helps keep some of us on the road. There's a modest "museum" there with a number of early Honda bikes. They restore older bikes (I was there a year ago and had two totally restored early 70's 750s ready to crate and ship to Australia. Terry, who runs the vintage parts business, is an incredible resource and a very nice guy. I once spoke with the owner, or original owner's wife who is engaged in the business and she, early on, met Mr. Honda himself when he toured early US dealerships. Lots of history at this place, but you'd never know it walking through the door first time.
--Rally Point at Anderson Ferry. Anderson Ferry shuttles every 15 minutes between Ohio and Kentucky and is the oldest continuous service ferry on the Ohio river. Been at it since the Civil War or something like that. The 10 minute river crossing is lovely (even in the high water we have now and the river bluffs on each side are dramatic) and I don't think G has been "on the water" yet. Remember, he came from the sea!! Once on the Kentucky side, it's just a few miles to Newport, KY and Hoffbrauhaus. Now that's a beer emporium. It's the only licensed place of the same name of the famous Hoffbrauhaus in Bavaria, as in Germany. Amazing German beer, sausages, and all things Black Forest on the menu; and the prices are reasonable.
Of the two, I'd take beer any day. But then, I can get to Western Hill Honda anytime as well. In fact, heading there tomorrow for such a mundane thing as picking up Honda Oil for a change before the ride.
All these things are Cincinnati experiences you can't get anywhere else.
