Man, I feel for whoever is riding this weekend, went to Cleveland and back today (in a car), poured  buckets almost the whole way there, and the whole way back.

I just spent the evening with the holders of "the scaly grail".  Don R with his brother and recruiting BankerDanny and Skonnie Boy had just spent holy hell riding through "Godzilla Weather" in Illinois to Portillo's and then to Munster Indiana.  I understand there were a few complications with slipping clutches, bikes laying down in the middle of the road, cold and rain.  Don R and his brother made it to Three Floyd's to hand off GeeZee to blue72beetle.  Blue will go south to Indy tomorrow.  I am so impressed with the dedication and diligence of our crew.

Here's me with blue72beetle at ThreeFloyds:

Here's some poor bystanders at the hotel who got talked into taking a picture of the three of us:

Here's the picture taken by hapless bystanders (Don R, GammaFlat and Blue72beetle):

If any of the Indy folks have a better idea than my house for the hand-off, please speak up.
With the dodgy weather and the apparent quick turn-around time for Blue72, that was the first thing I could think of and in order to provide a quick answer.

I know no one wants to mess with the schedule but due to this weather I give my blessing to anyone that feels the need to sit for a while. We had one bike down in the rain. No harm done but I want safety first. Enjoy, stick together and be safe. Don.

I am going to talk to Popwood later today but the rest of the Dayton group, (the non-Honda ones but are riding anyway), have stated they won't ride in the rain. I can't because my tires are pretty shot and having to replace everything else has negated new tires. I am all for waiting out the weather for safety's sake. I think that is why it got pushed out to Thursday. Hopefully that works out for us.

I am looking to meeting everyone!

+1   And remember, G really doesn't need to be in Cincy until Wednesday. Or, for that matter, since I'm heading due north from Cincy to Toledo, anyone from Indy could ride over to Dayton on Thursday morning and complete the handoff there. The schedule wouldn't skip a beat on that timetable, either. Of course, G wouldn't get to a Reds game, but . . . .

Spades, I bought some rain gear yesterday. Figured that would be the best insurance for no rain on our ride!! :)

I will also buy raingear, that will virtually guarantee the ride in Cleveland will be dry  ;D

For hotels in Cleveland, try this link for location (ZOOM OUT ONE CLICK), two groups of hotels on I90, an easy 15 min drive from downtown Cleveland:  http://maps.google.com/maps?oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&ie=UTF8&q=hotels+westlake,+ohio&fb=1&gl=us&rq=2&ev=zo&split=1&hq=hotels&hnear=Westlake,+Cuyahoga,+Ohio&ll=41.467686,-81.909599&spn=0.090813,0.154324&t=h&z=13

It's on the westside of Cleveland, if you do Cleveland day photo opps, it will require about a 10 mile back-track on I90 (or route 6 for a scenic ride), but these are all within walking distance (~1 min ride) of some good food and a good suburban bars, either grouping.  Myhondas, maybe you also have some other suggestions?

It's safe and cheap, Super 8 (LETTER C ON THE MAP) for example is showing 60 bucks a night. I wish I could help out with a place, my wifey has tix to a show for us on Friday night, so she thinks three kids, a babysitter and motorcycle riders won't mix well at our house without me there...  jeez.

Don and I made quite the pair yesterday as he and I, his brother and Sconnie Boy road to meet up with Gamma and Blue72. My bike wouldn't go faster than 45mph and was backfiring and generally running like crap (my last tank only last 85 miles before I hit reserve after 2 tanks over 120 miles without needing reserve) and Don's clutch was slipping and wouldn't let him go over 45 either. So we had lots of fun riding in the steady rain, on a busy highway not going faster than 45. It was quite invigorating.

My brother wasn't feeling well yesterday he had a close call, then later, he went down at the stop light. His foot slipped out from under him on the wet pavement and the 76 wing just laid over. We got some rest and  rode home this morning, making good time without incident.  The rain followed everywhere we went. Most of the roads were dry but we were still getting rained on.
I got a lesson in clutch adjusting, somehow the throwout bearing was not adjusted properly (he said sheepishly, looking at his feet).
There were snow flurries in Aurora this morning about the time we went through. I don't remember being this cold for a long time. A hot shower will follow. The joe rocket rain suit worked OK but I needed more layers for the temperature.  Thanks to all we rode with, it's great to have met you guys. I'll post more later.
Has anyone heard from Blue 72 Beetle? He's out there on his own delivering the goods.

Andy has delivered the goods to Indy this afternoon after a wet/cold ride.

We are currently discussing whether to ride on Monday or Tuesday as weather should be the same either day... cold in the morning but a high of 60.  Probably do whichever day the most people can ride.

Here's to Andy for braving the road to Indy and heading back to Ft Wayne.

Cheers, Joe

theres a few hotels in and around toledo. the redroof by my house is usually cheap. if ya want something nicer look towards perrysburgh. i was lookin at the finances today and depending on my paycheck on friday will decide if i can go to sharon pa. i just cant afford a hotel room. im hoping it works out. got the clutch back in, took it for a quick spin around the block. bike feels to be behaving better but i will not know until i take it on the eway tomorrow.

I agree, I feel like crap that you had to ride all that way by yourself in this crappy weather. I worked on my bike all afternoon. It still won't rev over 5k under load.

Departure from Indianapolis set for tomorrow MONDAY at 10am from my abode on the East Side of Indy....  If anyone needs address or directions let me know.

We're planning for a Mid-Day (2pm give or take) hand-off to Popwood at an as yet undetermined location.  We likely need to be heading back by 3pm to 5pm at the latest.

Route is flexible and will likely not be solidified till final moment of departure.  Thanks again for those who slogged through the rain to bring GZ here!  He's currently enjoying a Bad Elmers Porter and staring in disgust at all of the non-running Honda's in my garage  ::)

Finally made it home, close to 7pm. Indy to Fort Wayne was the worst part of the whole trip. It rained like crazy, and every single piece of clothing I had on was soaked.
The bike did great the whole trip though. Somewhere between West Lafayette and Indy my speedometer cable broke, and CBJoe hooked me up and installed another one for me when I got there! Thanks so much Joe!

Glad to hear you made it ok.  Sucks that the rain kept up as the radar was promising when you left.
I feel vindicated now for keeping 3 CB650's worth of parts hanging all over the garage  ;D

CBJoe, Let's set the meet up at my place. You have the home address from the PM I sent. So long as it's closer to 2 PM eastern, I can just take the afternoon off from work for our handoff "formalities." You guys can kick back and relax at my place, I'll have "refreshments" and whatever. If you are up for it, we can do a ride to downtown, the river public landing, some hills like Mount Adams, etc. for some local flavor. Or, if you just want to chill at my place then head back to Indy that's cool, too. You have my address to get a map, you have my phone so give me a heads-up when are finished with lunch near Metamora and have a better idea of your ETA. From there, you are about 30 to 40 minutes from my place. You'll want to take 74 to 275 (beltway) to Ronald Regan Highway (Rt. 126) to Galbraith Rd. Exit (next after Winton Rd. exit). It's easy, really. Let me know if you have questions or other thoughts.

Looking forward to meeting you and IndyFour-- and others? Can't believe the ride is in my backyard. Onward and onward. And three cheers to Andy who brought IT home. You da man!
