What year is this grab bar from?
« on: December 21, 2010, 08:02:34 PM »
Hey all,
I've been ebaying for a little while for a rear grab bar because mine has that "pantina" that I don't really care for. I have a '78 CB750K and when I eBay it that way, I get another style of grab bar all day long. I've just had it for a few months and who knows what previous po's have done. So, is this a grab bar for a '78 or is it from an earlier model.
Thanks,
Greg

I'm not so sure... I too have a 78' 750K and it looks like you might have different turn lights from an earlier year (in order to utilize the red lenses) so a PO might have used the earlier grab bar too. I'll post some picts when I get a chance, unless it gets resolved here before then.

Looks like the bar on my '77 [same as '78], but mad has a point, the turn signals look differant.
Does this help:

"I too have a 78' 750K and it looks like you might have different turn lights from an earlier year"

The lights are actually my little contribution to bike's history. They are tail, brake and turn signals all together. My brother gave those to me and they came from a Harley he had a few years ago. Between my brother, uncle and cousins, I'm the lone Honda in a world of Harley's. Some of that influence is bound to show up in this project!  :) Anyway, I like the look of the dual tail lights.

Thanks for the link industrious Steve-o. It looks like they want me to call for a price. I've seen that same schematic on another web site and they said it was longer available. If it was, the price was over $100.00, about $123.00 if I remember correctly. I can't spend that on a grab bar. I'm talking with another member in the "bike and parts wanted" forum, hopefully that will pan out. If not, I'll just have to be a little more patient.

I wouldn't call the dealer, keep searching for a good used one. Remember, the cafe guys take 'em off, so they are out there.
You could post a thread in the "parts wanted" area on this forum too.

The grab bar on a 77/78K bike has longer spacing between mounting points.  Now I'll have to go measure ?!.  They are not interchangeable with 76 and prior.

The 77 and 78 K frame is longer at the rear like the F frame. I have read they didn't plan for a K the last two years so at the last minute they made the K from an f frame with drum brakes. The seats don't interchange but I welded an F seat mount on a K and built a drum brake 77F.
