The Karma Points feature was turned on a few months ago as an experiment. Many of you probably haven't paid it much mind; some of you have. If you find it useful, vote yes; if not, vote no. After the votes are in, we'll act accordingly.

I voted "no" since the forum seems to have done quite well for a number of years without and it sometimes seems to be a distraction.

I vote that rather than getting rid of Karma we get rid of those who take it all too seriously and personally!

Afterall, if we can't have a little fun on here and jokingly take a few shots at eachother (truly just in fun) then what else am I going to do during my wickedly long off-season? Gotta remember that we aren't all as blessed as Terry in Australia or those of you far enough south to not have to sit and wait for that nasty white stuff to melt before we can dig our scoots out again....

Kinda funny that I hadn't even noticedthe Karma thingy until a couple of recent posts came up around it....

if you like something someone says then say so or PM them, make friends. if not then keep yer piehole shut and go polish your cam chain tensioner...

It generates more "reported posts" and PMs than anything else at the moment.

Get rid of it Glen, we're all mates here and shouldn't feel it necessary "grade" each other on the quality, or content, of their posts.

Of course, if the majority of members vote to keep it, then we should know who's actually applauding or smiting us, or else it could be considered a tool for those too gutless to say "shut your damn pie hole, about your beautiful goddam weather Terry", ha ha! Cheers, Terry.

I never paid it any attention really. What really does it impart? It is a purely subjective thing that gives no quanitative insight.

As far as Karma, I think it's OK. it's nice to get a point now and then, but if it's a hassle for the admins, ditch it. I really appreciate this board and all their efforts, I don't want to add to their work.

At 1st, I didn't really pay any attention to karma, until it got up in the double digits.
Then I thought that I must be putting out some agreeable info or something. Then it started
dropping. At that point, I found myself wondering what I had said that would cause someone
(no idea who, of course) to do that. You see I never thought of anyone using it as a fun thing
or to get someone's goat. And at the same time, I noticed that some had very little karma with
a lot of posts while others had a lot w ith hardly any posts. So, by now, I don't care if it stays or
goes because, I'm going to do like I did when I 1st joined and stick to learning from, and helping
others as I can. Also, there's nothing wrong with a little humor or a lot of it. I just didn't realize
that the karma was used in so many ways. So do with it whatever you will. As far as the posts
go, if I don't agree with what some, I say what I know, think or feel ( and if they don't agree,
oh well) I enjoy fun as much as the next guy but, I am deeply motorcycle oriented also. My
parent's only transportation at 1st was an Indian (I don't remember the exact model, it's the
one with the engine turned sideways like the CX500) and I always say that I was practically
born on a motorcycle. And I'm sure having a motorcycle shop in the family didn't help. So, that
being said, I guess maybe you understand how I am about them and I'm not saying that I' m
more into them than anyone else either. So, let the axe fall on karma, or not. Later on, Bill

like others have said before... there's no way to tell who smites or applauds... so, it's not that fun. it's more of a popularity contest without any rules and judges that stand behind the curtain in order to not be smited themselves.

Now, perhaps if we could get rid of the "karma" lawyers, the whole karma thing could work out. Well, two out of three ain't bad!

If the whole karma thing is a problem for the moderators, then why not make a disclaimer that some maybe offended by posts about karma or even karma itself. After all, it just could be that karma is dish best served cold.

...and hey for those of you that are being distracted from the seriousness of SOHC4ness by karma... try clicking on the link to the "tech forum". (just don't read too deeply into any of the posts, because you might find something humorous and you'll experience stroke like symptoms)

I enjoy all aspects of this forum, it's both informative and fun. It's one of the few places I can go at the end of the day and learn something both new and useless.

If I wanted anything else, I'd shutdown the computer and go watch the politicians on the evening news.

Don't care one way or the other.
I did follow the humorous posts regarding the topic. I never did figure out how a guy could loose them. Nor did I ever figure out the difference between a smile or an applause...........2 smiles=1 applause?

This Forum has been invaluable to me in doing my bikes. Can you imagine an idiot such as myself doing 2 complete restorations with no experience before this? The courier who picked up my stuff for the chromers is a rider and saw the wifes new bike in the shop. He thinks I'm a god! NOT. I explained this forum to him with the story of a guy recently having a hard time putting the brake spring back on his bike. I went out to the yard, took a photo, posted it and he had it sorted within a hour or so. He was amazed at the fast response we are able to get from our members. It is thanks to this site that I have been able to find the courage and skills to do what I have done this past two years.

Can I have a Karma point now?
