Soapbox racer
« on: December 29, 2010, 09:35:48 AM »
Been asked by my nephew to build one for next year race in his town, so the deal is i build it and he´s helping, this way i teach him basic fabrication skills.

The rear wheel is from an old pocket bike i had, tomorrow we´re going to fit the front ones wich come from a small quad, the idea is to run a severe negative camber to gain grip.

Hi, today we´ve been building the steering, that´s bending steel rods with the aid of the torch and cut them to measure to get steering arms, also trial fitting the rear brake.
tomorrow we´ll try to finish and test it over the weekend
The race is in a short and not very fast place, with some really thight slow bends, that´s why i try to keep the frame as short as posible and the three wheels.

No, tarmac event but sadly all what we had available were this quad wheels, the whole idea of it is racing something on a budget and build it together.
By the way if after the tests we need more grip i can always lend him the front slicks of my 30hp Rotax powered racing gokart, but i think it would´nt be fair for the other boys participating...  ;D
