73cb750 not charging...
« on: April 16, 2005, 03:16:33 PM »
I've checked the previous posts but didn't find what I was looking for.

So my bike is no longer charging, what is the first thing that you would check?  Is there anything that typically goes out on the CB charging system?

I've pulled the stator cover off, everything looks fine as far as I can tell.  I'm thinking it might be the regulator just from reading the other posts.  I'm kinda stumped just looking for any insights or suggestions.

Thanks,

Travis

Check the wiring diagrams and disconnect and clean all of the connections between the alternator and the battery.  Clean up the alternator rotor and brushes.  Put it all back together.  Connect a multimeter to the battery terminals, start the bike, and check the voltage readings against this chart:  http://sohc4.us/?q=node/62

You may find the procedure here helpful: http://www.electrexusa.com/Images/fault_finding.pdf

PS: searching the greenspun archives using the words 'not charging' would have led you to all of these tips.   8)

Gday,Just had the same problem and it was a broken wire about 1 inch out from the windings in the alternator,The outer fibreglass  cover looked fine but a wire had become brittle and broken inside .Just a thought
