Half way through the dark
« on: December 27, 2010, 09:30:40 AM »
Hey everyone, long time no see.

Hope everyone had a nice Holiday, and hope everyone is happy to find out that we are half way though this cold. This is just a rant, ive been pretty depressed for a couple months, maybe its the weather or the stuff that has been going on in my life, i dont know.

What I do know is that things are starting to look up! I finally got an internship and start on the 10th of Jan, which I am pretty excited for. I guess I never realized how much I need to work to have an identity. I feel a lot more motivated, and now am planning on tranning and participating in this http://www.warriordash.com/info.php

Rant over

I forget what it was you did for a living, mate. Did you loose your job or was it something to do with the recession??

You should do the wife carrying comp, you get her weight in beers! ;D
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

I worked in retail for Circuit City, they went out of business and I, along with most of my friends lost our jobs.

It's pretty crap losing your job through no fault of your own. I've been hanging on to mine for nearly a year by my fingertips. Accepted job relocation far away from home just to hang on. Without any financial help. So that means every month I'm £300.- further in the red. A lot of my colleagues, guys way better than me at our work, have been out of work for over 18 months. So I have to take whatever sh*t my employer throws at me.
But, as the song says; the times they are a-changing. I've had a few agencies call me up in the last few weeks with job offers or just checking out what I'm up to at the moment. Hasn't happened in over a year.
The upshot is, that my employer is starting to see the signs of recovery too, and is beginning to change his attitude at work. To which my reply is, according to that wonderful poet, Cuba c. Gooding;

"Show me the money!!!"

Yeah tell me about it, and new investigations are coming out everyday saying that most companies dont want to hire someone that is unemployed. Which is just beyond me, its just so irritating, im a good employee, I had that job for 2 years before I got laid off I was always on time I called off maybe 2 times because I was sick and I was always one of the top sellers. None of that matters because I cant even get an interview.

Really depressing out there, especially because I heard the other day, for every job opening there is 4 people applying for it.

You're kidding me!
That's sooo economically unsound and stupid. Over here starting salaries have dropped substantially and contracting rates have gone down by as much as 50%. Boy, if I was unemployed and at risk of losing my home, I'd walk over broken glass at the rates they're offering now.

Around here, there aren't even ads, except for the generic long-haul trucking ads. Been that way for years. On the bright side, I got a call tonight from a machinist friend, who gave me a line on a CNC screw machine that needs repair with the electronic control! With any luck, it may lead to more... ;D

Ya know 20 years ago when I first tried to explain to Americans that there was up to 20% unemployment in some areas of Ireland and that was the reason I tried to immigrate in the USA the response was nearly always " The lazy bastards, just don't want to work "....... I think my US friends now have a better understanding of what I was talking about.... sorry about the OP's loss of work and I hope the new opportunity is a good thing... good luck :)

Agreed! About a month ago they were saying how unemployment is down to something like 9.8% in this county, surprise surprise, after the holiday season is over its going back up.
