If you can manage a little traction you'll be in business Bill.
I hear ya Alan. I have gotten to be a pretty good browser on Craig's List and I had found the '92 Dakota and wanted to build one with a 360 w/ a carb and a 727 trans. I've seen several of these online on another forum. I've also chatted with a few owners too and found that they are pretty good runners and not that difficult to do. But, being a fancier of the Big Blocks, I wasn't totally into it. Then I started talking with a fellow who knows of one of those Dakotas w/ a 440 in there. Well, that's all it took. So, I start looking for 440s w/a 727 trans. and found several. I was skimming through what I had found and was going to decide on which to go check out, when I saw a "440 6pk shortblock w/ low miles and wear , "Easy rebuild" and had heads and stuff to go with it. Then, the fellow on the forum, sent me the link to THAT intake.
So, I made contact with the guy with the shortblock (who, I forgot to mention) coincidentally was a fellow I had done some business with for parts for the GTX earlier this year and is only about 30 - 45 minutes away. I told him I was after the shortbock and hoped to get the rest of what I needed, later as I could. He let me know that, being at the end of the year, he's spent a bunch on Christmas and needed to turn some cash and would create a package deal on what I needed from him. And he did. So, I'm working on putting that 440 together (after head work, a hone job, rings and bearings), get the trans rebuilt and scrounge up the money for the conversion mounts and oil pan kit. I am also looking for a differential to handle it And gonna lower the truck around 3 - 4" (keeping an eye on that oil pan. Also will work toward putting the power to the truck, w/o burning up the tires. So, there ya are. Progress and pictures as I make it.
