Godzilla wouldn't loan you a piston? That bastard!

Glad to hear you've got options, glad no one was hurt. That's one of those things I tend to chalk up to "Beyond my control" (unless the oil hadn't been changed in 20,000 to 30,000 miles...)

It's all good! That motor was somewhat experimental for me (higher compression and ported head). It had done 2500 miles before the trip (fresh oil the day before), but I think that our haste to get home (lots of highway riding=boring) got the best of it. High performance motors are not highway droners! I could order pistons to be sent next day, but after assembly I would only have 2 days to break it in and tune it. Despite all this, we will carry on!

I'm glad I stopped because one more right hand turn would have put me down due to all the oil on the tire.

Sorry to hear that SB!!! At least you have a spare bike (and maybe a spare SOHC/4?) to ride.

Update for me - got the 750 running on Sunday (thanks for your help Spanner1!). Still need to get the back brake on and working.. still need to do some timing work - it's really hard to start when it's not warmed up. And need to stop the #2 carb from overflowing - probably a stuck needle valve. But IT RUNS!!

If it's worth doing, it's worth doing twice.

One bike down, one bike up! The world is in balance again. Nice looking F; my favorite style!

Sounds like a good meeting place. I'll let the group know, if they haven't been reading.

Well I managed to fall off the back of a truck today, literally. I slipped and fell backward out of the delivery truck hitting my arm on the deck of the truck and my hip on the step before finally hitting the pavement on one knee and hand. I am layed out in bed with some serious bruising coming on. I should know tomorrow or Thursday just how much damage I did. I know nothing is broken but man am I sore. I think I can still ride Saturday but I might have to pop a couple Advil' before I head out.

I have climbed in and out of that truck a dozen times a week for the last couple of years. I guess with the cutting fluids, rain, and grease that are all over the bed of that thing it was bound to happen one of these days. I am just glad I did not hit my head on the customers forklift as I went down.

Man, we need to offer up a sacrifice to the lizard God.  Silverback, sorry to hear about your motor, good thing you have a backup.  Jason, take it easy and feel better.  On an up note, Tugboat, glad you're running now. Looking forward to seeing all you guys next week.

Sheesh!.......... bad luck all 'round  :(.  Sorry about your fall Jason but a young fella like you can bounce back PDQ, so I hope you can make the ride without too much discomfort.   Looks like Josh is almost good to go, My old K1 is needing a good cleaning, otherwise O.K. for Saturday . I think  Sweetie is coming along too on her CB 650. First lady biker to escort the lizard so far ?

Jason!! Dude - that totally sucks. At least you didn't hit your head? Here's to a speedy recovery. If Godzilla needs to have a conversation with that truck, that can be arranged!

Took the 750 for its first trip around the block last night. Started a lot easier with a full battery :) Weird thing is that before it got to a decent idle it was running on 3&4 but not 1&2? If anything shouldn't it be 1&4 and/or 2&3?  Whatevs. I'll look into that when I have a little more time. Still need to clean the points, set the gap to .014 and get my back brake hooked up. Clutch needs adjusting too but the shifts feel very smooth. And it stumbles once I get up in RPM's but that's just a timing thing. Nothing hard - should be able to do all of that tonight and (hopefully!) ride that thing into work tomorrow.

All that aside, it felt great to ride that thing again. It's SO different than my kawi 400 twin! Pulls away so nice and sounds awesome to boot!

Depending on how far I get tonight I may still plan on taking the KZ to KY this weekend and hopefully the 750 next weekend. Just not sure if I'll have enough shake-down time you know? Either way - WOOHOO!!

I wish I healed as quick as I did in my 20's now that I am in my late 30's. I may still be young but darn things like that seem to hurt so much more these days. I have some nice bruises today and the leg/hip are pretty stiff but I made it back into work today so I should loosen up enough to swing a leg over the bike Saturday. The weather is looking like it may just turn out to be a stellar day for riding.

No my hip managed to hit the step of the truck and turn me well enough that I did not hit the pavement on my back/head. That big metal bumper step would have done a number on my melon even though it is pretty thick. The delivery truck deck is about 3 1/2 feet high so it was not that far of a fall unless you add my 6' 2" height into the equation. I am sure I looked impressive as my feet shot out from under me and my 250lb fat behind went horizontal. In hind sight I wish I had a camera rolling, I probably could have won the $10,000 price on America's Funniest Home Videos.

Ouch!  Jason I felt that down here!  I hope all is healing well, I hope to see everyone next weekend.  Just trying to decide on how much vacation to take, I think I might take off from Thursday on through the weekend (yeah, that sounds perfect... ;))  I'm thinking that I might head to N'ville first just because.

Looks like we're on for Sunday instead of Saturday. It's supposed to rain tomorrow AM and that would put us late getting back from KY, so let's just do it the next day when it's supposed to be nice. We'll probably leave Nashville around 9ish which should put us up at Lake Cumberland park around 2ish.

On another note, I've got my timing so F'd up that it won't even start now. Nice work Tug. :( Back brake is still mushy even after bleeding 1/2 can of fluid through it last night. Looks like I'm taking the KZ on this leg.

Looks like I'm gonna do some mountian riding tomorrow.  I want to make sure I'll have trouble free miles heading up to N'ville.  The weather should be about perfect.  Hey Tug no worries mate, once I get up there I'll help ya get it all straightened out, I need another SS up front with me.  ;)

Just heard back from JAG - he's been super busy and hasn't had time to sort out some issues with his bike. So it looks like it's just going to be Spanner1, his wife & me making the trip on Sunday. Only one SOHC/4!! Ray, don't break down!!

Yeah sorry I had to bail on this weekend. I had hopes I could machine a new bottom link and longer dog bones for my shock today but ended up at a customer site all day going over Non-Conforming Material Reports. I do not have much hope for getting the bike back together Saturday. I have a shock on order that should be here Tuesday or Wednesday so I am good to go for the long trip to Barber and Mississippi next weekend.

Just goes to show you when you plan a simple maintenance job a few days before a trip Murphy is bound to show up and change your plans.
