Mucking about the internet to a solution to a different problem, how to fool/overide a EFI system, I stumbled on a possible solution for the pod problem.
The simplest solution he has is a split venturi intake. Basically this is a shaped piece of plastic that fits into the boot side and keeps the airflow restricted to the lower half of the intake.
For lower throttle settings this would mean much faster airflow, and probably more organized air as well. I think this is a likely candidate to solve the idle problem, but not sure how it work at higher throttle settings.
The other solution is an X-wing shaped insert that supposedly organizes the air better as it enters the carb throat.
I am not sure what success rate to assign this one.
Neither of the above is available off the shelf for our carb sizing.
The third solution is a pod with a gate on it. You can restrict the airflow in small increments, allowing for more vacuum at idle and probably higher airflow speeds.
It is, however, ugly. But, presumably one could install these, tune it to their liking, and then mod a regular filter to restrict the flow.
The last option is the most expensive, but also promising.
It consists of an additional jet that senses a lean condition and adds fuel, up to 20%. So you create a lean condition and this compensates for it. it is very interesting, originally created for snowmobiles in the early 70s. Jetting them is a bugger, as the conditions will change drastically during the day, from sub-freezing to 50 degrees in the afternoon. Plays hob with the mixture.
It is a very small version of the emulsification tube, so it provides a very fine mist of fuel. I suspect it uses a tuned chamber to drive fuel delivery.
It also farks with clean looks. You would have small boxes on each carb boot that could be hidden, but not invisible. Fuel would be taken from the overflow tubes so that would not be that bad.
